Brom says that gaming can be beneficial. That it can develop a myriad of skills that can prove to be useful in real life situations. And honestly I cannot really argue with that, gaming has in many ways made me and my friends more rounded individuals.
However, I have been wondering if there is a point when we have gone into the realm of ‘too much gaming.’
For instance:
You are at home and your stepdaughter is climbing on the couch, and slips over the end of it. After inspecting to make sure that she hasn’t bled all over the carpet your first thought is, ‘Wow… she completely botched that DEX check!’ and then start to calculate how much damage she has taken.
You sit in traffic on your way to work and start wondering how many cars you could get out of your way if you could cast ‘Cometfall’ on the highway before you.
The new guy in the office is introduced to you on Monday morning and you hope that he has put points into INT and WIS because he is severely lacking in CHA and STR, at least from first impressions.
You find yourself looking at the cute little grey kitty sitting at the end of the bed and wonder not only what she is thinking about you, but hoping that it isn’t anything that would cause her to feel the need to rip your soul from your body.
The mushrooms at the grocery store get you wondering what unknown fungus is growing down in Khordal.
You debate what chore you should accomplish next in your house based upon the CR level of the bathroom vs. the dishes and thus the XP you will be acquiring for taking them down.
When you spend a night staring at the ceiling due to insomnia and wish you were an elf so that you wouldn’t need 8 full hours of sleep to replenish your spell list.
You call your purse a ‘Bag of Holding’ (although that isn’t so far from the truth).
You wake up and try to find some clean clothing to wear to work, realize that the only thing currently clean is your renaissance costume and actually consider lacing up that bodice to go to work in instead of pulling out the Febreeze.
You plan on using the bastard sword hanging on the wall in your living room to defend your house against burglars instead of a gun like the rest of the neighborhood.
While watching the nightly news you take notes in case you run out of inspiration while playing in your weekly evil D&D campaign.
Perhaps there is such a thing as too much gaming…

Actually, when I think about it, some people will actually take gaming too seriously and might start to behave like this.
This is no more joking matter than schizophrenia and should not be laughed at.
...I just can't help myself.. :P

Well the botched Dex check situation -did- happen, and does quiet frequently in my world. :) The rest might be somewhat exaggerated, but... all thoughts that have at least flitted past my conciousness.
Glad it brought you a smile though dear Tann.

I just have to say that I am an elf and don't need eight hours of sleep :P
And you should wear the renaissance dress to work it breaks the ice with the new guy guy and provides a full day's amusement as you make up what people are whispering about you.

LOL - I've done the "botched roll" thing. Even commented on it out loud to my eldest chilluns.

In all honesty I do sometimes wish I was an elf so I could rest for only 4 hours, but not to replenish my spell list, so I could get all the work done I needed to do AND game.
And I'd rather be a thief then a arcane spellcaster any day.

When you sit up all night with people making ridiculous lvl 20 gestalt builds and trying to figure out exactly how many US armoured tanks your half-dragon troll barbarian could carry underslung in flight?
When you take the trouble to walk behind a tree on your way home because the front of it looks like a beholder and you don't want to be caught in the anti-magic ray?
When the phrase "attack of opportunity" is used frequently in your group of friends to mean, "get me a beer"?
Could be too much gaming.
