Soul Bond

Soul Bond (Alteration)

Level 9 Magic User Spell

Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M
Duration: permanent
Casting Time: 6 hours
Area of Effect 1 person and one weapon
Saving Throws: n/a.

With this very powerful spell, a mage is able to take a piece of a person’s soul or life force and bond it to a weapon or item. Once soul-bonded, the weapon can be summoned to the hand of the spell recipient, from almost any distance away.
To cast this spell, the item to be soul bonded must be magical in nature or have an “enchant an item” and “teleport without error” cast upon it. When casting the spell, the wielder and the weapon must stay in contact with each other for the entire length of the spell. Near the end of the spell, the recipient must state a command word that will always summon the weapon to his hand.
The spell is permanent and can not be reversed. Since the weapon does teleport, it does not matter where the wielder is at the time of summoning. If a “dispel magic” is used against a soul-bonded weapon, it will only delay the sword for 1 to 4 rounds. Only one weapon or item can be soul bonded to one person in that person’s lifetime. If the weapon is somehow destroyed while away from the soul-bonded, the wielder takes 2-16 points of permanent damage. For every mile the weapon is away from the soul-bonded, the weapon takes a round to travel. The weapon cannot cross-dimensional or planar boundaries.
