The Queen of Hearts (4e)

Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd,
Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd

This is a translation of the original Queen of Hearts originally created by the legendary Alacrity. See that thread for more information on the lore related to the sword.

The Queen of Hearts
This sword is appropriate for epic-level characters.

The Queen of Hearts is a +3 Longsword with the following properties and powers.
Enhancement: Attack rolls and damage rolls
Critical: +3d6 damage
Property: This weapon deals d12 damage per round to any man who holds it
Property: This weapon has the off-hand and versatile properties when used by a woman
Property: +2 bonus to AC and Reflex defense against melee attacks

Goals of the Queen of Hearts
* To punish those who abuse a woman's love
* To avenge those wronged by love

Roleplaying the Queen of Hearts
The Queen of Hearts communicates only through what is commonly known as a "woman's intuition." It never speaks, although its mood is never in question. The Queen of Hearts typically finds its way to women who are newly in love, and does not typically stick around for more than three levels.

Concordance
Starting Rating: 5

Owner gains a level +1d4
Owner is a woman +2
Owner has ever known true love +1
Owner becomes heartbroken by a man who was truly loved +10
Owner attempts to misuse the powers of this weapon –5
Owner proclaims a wrong against an undeserving man –5

Pleased (rating 16–20)
“Hell hath no Fury”
The Queen of Hearts knows its powers are needed here, and freely provides them. Once this point is reached the sword has declared war against someone on behalf of the owner. It typically leaves a few days after revenge has been served.

Enhancement: increases to +6.
Critical: +6d6 damage
Property: This weapon deals an extra d6 damage whenever it deals damage to a man

Scorned (Daily - Primal): Minor Action: The blade glows red as if taken fresh from the forge. This weapon gains the property and daily power of a vorpal weapon. The vorpal daily item power does not count against your limit of daily item powers. Sustain Minor: limit 12.

Violated (Daily - Primal): Minor Action: The sword takes on a bluish color and becomes almost incorporeal. Every strike will strike deep in the heart, slowly carving pieces from it as it goes. This weapon ignores all armor, enhancement, item, and shield bonuses to AC or defenses. Any attacks that hit deal an amount of damage equal to the target's healing surge value. Sustain Minor: limit 6.

Satisfied (12–15)
“Heaven hath no Rage”
The wielder has a bond of trust with the weapon. It will protect her.
Comfort (Daily): Minor Action. You can heal yourself, recovering hit points as if you spent a healing surge.

Normal (5–11)
“Love is complicated.”
The Queen of Hearts warns that love is dangerous, but comforts the new wielder that it will be there to exact vengeance if needed.

Unsatisfied (1–4)
“Perhaps I should be more honest towards men..."
The wielder is becoming one who misuses the power of love. If the wielder doesn’t change her ways, the Queen of Hearts soon leaves.
Property: This weapon loses the Versatile and Off-hand qualities
Special: You take a –2 penalty to attack rolls and damage rolls against any male creatures.

Angered (0 or lower)
“I have become what this weapon was designed to destroy”
The Queen of Hearts is now at war with its owner. It leaves within two nights.
Enhancement: drops to +1
Critical: +d6
Special: The Queen of Hearts forever treats you as a man

Moving On
“Love is forever moving."

The Queen of Hearts keeps a watchful eye on maidens throughout Audalis. It, unlike love, is not exclusive. If the Queen of Hearts leaves satisfied or pleased, it leaves behind a Scarab of Invulnerability in it's place, to forever remind the owner that she need never suffer such pains again. If the Queen of Hearts left angered, the owner suffers recurring nightmares of being a man on the receiving end of the weapon's fury nightly for 3d10 days, although even after that they never completely stop.
