Physical Description:

Dana wears her straight hair just to the shoulder and sometimes wears it pulled back into a simple ponytail, especially when off-duty. She has a stocky build and appears in fine physical shape from constant workouts and is stronger than she looks. She might be pretty if she used any makeup or even tried to be, but she seems to prefer the natural look; that along with her abrasive manner tends to put men at length with her.

Family and Background:

Dana Cook grew up in a Starfleet family; her father was an Engineer and her mother a Doctor. Dana was an only child and therefore became sort of a Tom boy as she became Dad’s little girl. She played sports growing up and always excelled in her studies; she preferred the sports but there wasn’t much of a career in that for females. She was expected to join Starfleet when she grew up, and when it came time she elected the Medical profession. Her father was a little bit disappointed but as long as she was in Starfleet he was happy with that; besides with his wife being a Doctor he couldn’t cry too loudly about how his ‘little girl’ was going to be a Doctor.
Dana didn’t make Doctor though, there was an ‘incident’ in the Starfleet Academy which hampered her studies and she resolved to become a nurse instead. The ‘incident’ is something that she doesn’t talk about and somehow it has been kept out of her Starfleet record. How this happened is still a mystery, but since no one at her duty assignments have ever learned of them, it hasn’t become a problem. (There is a story here but someone will have to drag it out of her if they want to learn it. :) )
She graduated from the Starfleet Academy College of Medicine with a Nursing certification in the top 5% of her class. |

Medical History:

Dana has no known serious health conditions. She did fracture her left forearm at the age of 12 playing Racquetball when she crashed into the wall being a bit too aggressive.
She also has a 4†scar on her right outer thigh from an accident when she was 21 while Hydrosailing in San Francisco Bay while at the Starfleet Academy. She fell hard into the water and struck the reef causing a serious puncture wound. There was no serious lasting damage and she has full use and feeling in the leg. |

Commendations and Reprimands:

2357 – Minor Reprimand – For punching some 'fresh as the driven snow' Butter bar who tried to tell her that she wasn't doing her job properly. Apparently, according to Dana, he should have known better than to mouth of to someone with more experience. Though no official charges were made and it was settled amicably with a simple 'apology' from PO Cook. Dana almost felt like she would have preferred the brig to apologizing, but she got through it and only a Minor Reprimand was put in her record.
2359 – Starfleet Commendation Medal – For saving the life of a Superior Officer – During an away mission aboard the Aries, the ship's Doctor was gravely injured and PO Cook stabilize the doctor and kept him alive until they could return to the ship. |

Being taller and stockier than most other women in her profession, Dana is a physically imposing person. She has an absolute "no nonsense" attitude that seems to help her keep almost everyone in line. She runs an efficient and orderly Sickbay and is a stickler for keeping things in proper working condition; a place for everything and everything in its place. One of her hobbies outside of the Sickbay is Racquetball where she has a reputation as a monster on the court. It is her usual exercise routine and an outlet for any frustrations in life. She also enjoys drinking, mostly real alcohol and not that synth ‘crap’, and occasionally smoking cigars even though they are contraband and bad for your health. She also loves Poker and has been seen on several occasions in a Chief's Poker Game held in a 'secret' location on the Engineering Deck.
She is a confident and demanding woman in the sickbay, and on the racquetball court; she usually abhors violence, but has been known to allow herself to be pushed too far. The few times in her life that violence was unavoidable, it was nothing a good solid punch to the face couldn't cure. (See Reprimands above for one incident).
She was sharing Chief Quarters with CPO Lauren Crane, until Lauren's demotion. Currently no roommate assigned. |
