An Idea for Webdesign At the Inn
Hey all,
I have an idea for all those involved in webdesign here at the inn. I'd like to see what both you, the moderators and what the other commoners like meself think of the idea.
On many an occasion, I've found myself clicking from one section of the forums to another in order to find updates on the games that I'm playing in or DMing.
The inn has a great feature, in that on your profile, it lists the games you GM and play in. I was thinking that it would be convenient if, on this list, it showed whether or not any of those games have been updated since you last viewed the thread; ideally, it would show if any of the related threads had been updated as well. This way, when you click on your profile, you can check on any updates in any of your games, then go on to browsing the forums.
I'm not sure how technically feasible this is, what the logistics would be, etc.; however, I'm wondering what other people would think of such an addition and if our webmaster might consider including something like it if it were feasible.
The inn has already taken leaps in revolutionizing online gaming...just bouncing around ideas, I think there's always room for improvement.

Feasible.
It is feasible, and I don't think the programming would be difficult. It is just a matter of Olan finding the time to get it done. I understand how PHP works, but have never been able to do more than modify the occasional programming. I like the idea, myself, but of all of us that I know of that are capable of manipulating the Inn, Olan is the only one who could make that happen.

I don't mean to squealch ideas...
Hmm, that sounds almost vaguely familiar. Check out this post.
As you can see, I definately approve of this idea.
Olan it appears, did not.
Or he just didn't read it, you know, whatever.

Don't know how easy it would be ...
... or even it it would be possible, but:
As far as notification of updated threads in a person's "Games I'm In" list, how about any updated games listed in bold print, or bold and underlined print?
Kinda like the moderators shown in bold versus "us plebians" in normal type ...

Should be small
It could probably just be a small variation on the subscribe function the Inn currently enjoys. Simply stop it from sending you emails/PMs and make it change the tags on the games on your userpage list. Olan's the one to ask.
Also, didn't we have a "Suggestion" thread officially set up?

CApt. Lou it is a great idea.
It is a great idea. I don't know how it can be done but I know it cam be. I also play on RPOL.net and each user has a sticky list of all the games a user is in or lurks in. When it is updated by anyone other that you, An icon icon shows up on the sticky list to show it has been. In this case it is a lightning bolt. If there are not new post in a thread then it has a simple circle.shield showing.
Perhaps there is a way just to change the color of the name of the thread on our profiles that has been updated by others until you open it and read it, then it goes back to normal.

Always a way...
Folks, there's definitely a way to do all of this. Olan is the one to do it though, so we'll have to wait for his response.'d take a look at what he's built in that particular area to see if I couldn't figure something out, but it appears that I'm a dunce and lost my access information. (Stupid admin!)

Considering...
Is considering offering Olan her first born child in order to get this accomplished... or at least a box of cookies

children?
Bah, I have three of those already. I could go for some cookies, though.
Mmmmmm, cookies...
Seriously, though, this is a good idea, and one I'll get to at some point. Sorry, but right now, I'm behind on work that Iget paid for, so until I get a little caught up, I can't really justify writing code that I don't get paid for.

Paid work?
You've never let paid work interfere with Inn coding before! When did you grow up and become responsible?

Olan
I understand -
I have enough going on in real life that the Inn takes a backseat often. But there's been a lull recently, so that's why I've been posting like a madman on fire.
But yeah, that would be great, no rush though.

Wha?
Olan's working? And not on T-Shirt designs. These are dark times friends. Let us gather and sacrifice livestock in an appropriate manner.
