Why'd You Choose Your Avatar?

I was just wondering why the various Innmates have the avatars they do? Let's get some input here so we can all bond like family mates or something. Love love hippy speak.

To be entirely honest I have my avatar because way back in the day when I first came to the forum I was a-planning on using my old namesake character, an orc named Grugg, in some game. As such I was thinking I'd find an appropriate orc-y avatar, so I picked the only one called "orc" on the list, and it was this one.

It has since been renamed "Grugg".

Anywho, that's my avatar's story, so lets hear yours?

In truth...

I have two really. The original one I uploaded is the Female Silhouette picture, and my current one is a Sylph.

Why a silhouette? Because I was being somewhat mysterious... ^_^

Why a sylph? They're my favourite characters! Not because they can become invisible, but because they can fly and have innate magic! I love to fly...

Unfortunately, because of the whole invisible at will aspect of the sylph's statistics, I never get to play one at all

Oh...

...I gotta go with the mischeivous grin, the funky hat, and the super-elvisy sideburns!

My Av looks just like me, so I couldn't resist.

It's Vanadia, of course

Alacrity had one of the Inn's great artists, Yanamari, create a portrait of the three main characters from his tabletop games: Vanadia, Rune and Gallirian. Check it out in the Art section of the archives.

I've been using my avatar "portrait" ever since, and Tann uses that of Gallirian.

My avatar...

I used to just sort of pick out random ones from the inn's selection back before the Great Crash, but after I ended my hiatus and resumed posting here at the inn, I submitted my current one - Quinlan Vos, who is the best expanded universe character in Star Wars (in my humble opinion).

It seems that most people have screen names that are of one of their trademark characters, and avatars that are of that same character. Oddly enough, I don't know the name Cap'n Lou. It was actually the name of my Baldur's Gate character at the time when I signed up for the inn originally, but that guy didn't last very long. I wanted to change the name for awhile, and considered it when I got back but, hey...everyone knows me by this name.

Also oddly enough, in recent weeks I've actually come full circle and kind of like it...

Well...

I decided that I would find something nobody else had, that was just a little unique. When I saw this, I decided that I liked the colour combination, and decided it would fairly unique to have a unicorn picture as a guy. I just ended up sticking with it.

Supposedly there's a bit of Romani blood in my lines.

Mine?

Originally I had picked avatars based on the games I was in so that my characters fit my avatar. Then I realized that was impossible when one is in 5 games at once. Plus, this often resulted in my stealing other people's unique avatars (like Brom's).

At the time I picked this one, a SW game was just starting up with me as a player. So I picked the only decent SW avatar that Admiral wasn't using.

I'm very happy with it.

not trying to hijack this thread...

it kind of relates...

We have some of the MOST amazing artists at the Inn.
For the newbies, if you haven't checked them out look in the ARCHIVES section under art.

Long Time Whimsy

When I first started back in Nov 2002, I was known as Greysorcerer and I chose one avatar here that looked like Tim from Monty Python's Holy Grail, and then I became sick of that one, but it was apt considering it was grayish in color.

I had a brief avatar as a female because of a character I used in playing in one of Brom's campaigns (before he stoned her).

Then I used a Gandalf the Grey avatar since I was still Greysorcerer.

Then, of course, we had the Great Crash (of which ended my years of having over 1000+ posts. Everybody during that time called me Greygrey, and I began a star wars campaign called Legacy of the Dark Jedi. I used the current Jedi avatar you see now.
