A Ranting Meri

So I find much of my day at work staring at thousands and thousands of records in Excel, which is to say the least not exceedingly interesting. In the course of my day and the subsequent commute to get to my boring job I often discover that my mind has wandered off onto a myriad of different topics, usually ranting and raving about them for whatever reason. I come up with some at least interesting thoughts during these inner rant sessions but rarely have found the opportunity to introduce them into topics of conversation. So I have decided to post up some of my rants here, get them off my chest and out into the open. Please feel free to ignore them, read them, comment on them, or whatever you feel is necessary.
Thanks!
M.

Organic Vegetables

Well lets start with a fun one.
A collegue at work just found out that I have some digestive problems and was asking what I do to help prevent troubles. Of course in their asking about my health they cannot simply just ask what I am doing and offer their good happy positive thoughts they must also put in their two cents. One of these cents happened to be the suggestion that I should eat more organic vegetables. Partly because they don't cause cancer (this is coming from a man who smokes... which is an entirely different rant in and of itself) like aspertine (or however you spell that fake sugar crap) does.
Which I nodded and said I should, and the conversation ended and I got to thinking about organic vegetables.
If organic vegtables are in fact organic it implies that there are inorganic vegetables out there somewhere. Which begs me to ask.... WHERE? I believe that one of the intrinsic virtues of vegetables is that they are in fact organic, of living mattter, and not rocks. My teeth might not like sugar but I can testify from personal experience that they prefer sugar to rocks. I realize that this is a matter of semantics, and semantics do not discredit the actual qualities of an 'organic' vegetable, however it still drives me nuts. All vegetables are organic, if your vegetable is made with some superior process to the rest find a better term to use to qualify that for me.
Secondly... my understanding of what an 'organic' vegetable is (and granted I am not a farmer, never have been and God willing never will be) that it is grown up on a happy little farm where they don't use pesticides and other 'man made' things that might be radioactive or carcinogenic, nor are the vegetables somehow genetically manipulated by scientists to be bigger, stronger and better, and potentially radioactive. So if we aren't spending tons of money on toxic chemicals or expensive man made seeds why do these 'organic' vegetables cost so much!!??
Honestly, it is probably a conspiracy. The people who probably need to eat the vegetables least, people with money and thus good health care, can afford to buy them, while small children and people with bad or no healthcare cannot afford to eat them and thus will die of radioactive poisoning. Screw you bourgious and your organic vegetables too! I'll just eat rocks!
Finally, I swear this veggie tale will end (and maybe some day those stupid singing chirstian veggies will too), isn't it strange to anyone else that the majority of people (my coworker included) who dance around telling all of us that we need to buy 'organic' food or die happen to be democratic? And that it is also the democratic party in America at least that is also jumping up and down about the current recession and unemployment rates in this country, and are offering all these social welfare programs up as solutions to this problem? All the while trying to get rid of 'inorganic' foods and thus eliminating jobs all over the country at places like pesticide and fertilizer factories, at science institutes that are busy working on the bigger, badder, cooler mutated seedlings, etc....
Oh wait and one more thing... is any of this related to the obscenely large numbers of obese people in our country? Maybe our concern shouldn't be what ear of corn is best for us, but simply that we should be eating an ear of corn instead of a big mac.

I can't believe i never looked at this

This was not only fun to read (i swear, i can hear you ranting, getting progressively louder and more irritated, on the verge of losing your breath as you finally conclude), but thought provoking too.... any more?
