As you turn in your various character sheets, descriptions, etc, please consider the following:
What language(s) does your character speak?
My games do NOT have a "common" langauge (no such thing in the real world). Therefore, your character will speak the language of their homeland only, unless you have a good reason why they should speak another language.
Educated characters (usually mages, characters from wealthy backgrounds, and priests with formal education) are the exception to this - these usually get at least one free extra langauge.
All others need to get with me for a reason they have an extra tongue. Note that intelligence restrictions apply regarding your max number of languages.
This game will be set in southern Ertain, so to be able to communicate with the locals, you'll need to speak Apanonese (the language of Ertain, Coria, and Pardinal). The other prevelant human tongue is Drannese (spoken by Drannon and Sendria). All other races/nationalities speak a native tongue.
A (full?) list of languages:
Drannese (Drannon and Sendria, though different dialects)
Apanonese (Ertain, Coria, Pardinal... again, different dialects)
Vidarak
Lendoreon
Chindari*
Yanatheran*
Arvox Corrolyan*
Sylvari
Khordaldrum
Cidal
Brathunspar
Slaa'karn
Kelden
Kazari
Ungoulid
Crunaik
Gruellok
Anathari+
Chakrandrum+
* - these languages have a common root; while they are distinct tongues, those who can speak one can usually muddle through the others enough for basic communication
+ - these languages are dead tongues, spoken (or read) only by scholars.
What sort of religious beliefs does your character hold?
Please note that religion is part of daily life in Audalis. For a brief overview, check the "religion in Audalis" article on this site.
Most people have one or two deities that they honor. Atheism is almost unheard of; it is commonly accepted that those who have no divine patron are destined for a very bad afterlife.
If you want to really irritate the DM, please reference a deity not found in the Audalis pantheon during my game. For the hundredth time, Corellon DOES NOT EXIST HERE!
Your character does not have to be religious, and you don't have to do any deep reading... but it would be a good idea to at least browse the list of deities and pick one that your character pays lip servive to.
