Paranoia - How to make fun of everything
This game is a comical game set in an over-the-top tongue-in-cheek dystopian setting. This is slapstick comedy and dark humor combined in one. The game will be rated PG-13, but there are likely to be moments and jokes that aren't suitable or understood by some Innmates.
Welcome to Alpha Complex. I am Ultraviolet Cint-U-RWSA-3, although you all will refer to me as Master. Failure to do so is treason. The penalty for treason is summary execution. I will kill you.
As you will see, Alpha Complex is a very happy place. Fun is mandatory. Failure to show proof of fun-having at any time upon request of a superior is treason. Although a smile is typically proof sufficient, final authority shall rest with the superior's impression.
You have each been brought into this world to serve at the pleasure of your superiors. You will perform mindless duties as instructed, and be happy for the opportunity. Your grade is infrared, the lowest of the low. You will be heavily medicated throughout your lives to ensure happiness, and you will learn your place. After all, 70% of Alpha Complex's population are infrareds.
At this time you look down and notice you are wearing all black. You look to the side to see the hundreds of others are also wearing black. Cint is wearing white. Suddenly everything goes blank...
As the smoke on Cint's gun dissipates, the lifeless body of that rebellious infrared falls to the floor. Two robots enter the room from a sliding door and remove the body, replacing it with another who looks identical.
Let that serve as a lesson. Failure to pay attention to a superior's voice is treason. Since you are all newly cloned, I will allow this once - you are never to make eye contact with a superior.
You and all the others avert your eyes. This guy is serious.
Alpha Complex allows each of you 6 clones - your six pack. One of you has already found that out. If you shall find death, your clone will replace you within 5 minutes. This clone shall be free and clean of anything impure that your past body may have picked up.
There are some other things you must know:
You are infrared, the lowest rank. If, and I mean IF you perform your duties above and beyond what is required, and pay obedience at all times, you might get promoted to Red. Ranks going up include Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and Ultraviolet.
Friend Computer is our leader, our master, and our best friend. You are to obey Friend Computer at all times. Everything you do and know are because of Friend Computer's guidance. Friend Computer is kind, gentle, and just. Friend Computer will protect you. Friend Computer runs Alpha Complex. Everyone here lives, works and dies for Friend Computer.
Life in Alpha Complex is pleasant as you will find. However there are some issues that Friend Computer is actively resolving. First off, Alpha Complex is constantly in danger of being overrun and taken over... by communists. If you find a communist, there is a standing order to terminate it. Should you find that you are a communist, you have a duty to execute yourself.
The communists have poisoned our cloning systems. It was perfect as designed by Friend Computer, but every so often a mutation creeps into our bodies. Mutation is technically illegal, although Friend Computer is generous in the fight against communism, and allows mutants to register themselves. If you come across someone with a letter M on their uniform they are a registered mutant and have already confessed their mutation to Friend Computer.
Details of mutations are beyond your security clearance. Though if you discover a mutation, report it immediately to Friend Computer.
You notice that you're not really sure what is normal and what is a mutation...
If you hear rumors that someone is a mutant, report that person immediately. Spreading rumors is treason.
Some people believe that Friend Computer is not giving them enough guidance or happiness. They think things should be run differently. They have formed things called secret societies. They exist for a variety of reasons and causes. Membership in a secret society is treason.
Bots are your tools. Misusing technology is treason.
As an infrared, you are property of Friend Computer. Misusing yourself is vandalism - treason.
Troubleshooters are the personal task force of Friend Computer. These fine people are fiercely loyal to Friend Computer and should be obeyed completely. Failure to obey a Troubleshooter is treason.
I believe that is all you should need to know to begin. Please go through door 4 and take a simple test, which will designate which service group you belong to.
Remember, Participation and Fun are mandatory. Have a pleasant day and welcome to Alpha Complex.
This game is Paranoia, a tongue in cheek RPG where everyone is out to get you. You will play a troubleshooter with Red ranking. We'll figure up how you broke free of the Infrared ranking later. There are no stats as the game focuses more on RP and battles are secondhand to ambushes, executions and "freak" accidents. The game will be fast paced, handled largely by PM, and very, very fun.
Oh, did I mention that all the players are mutants, members of secret societies, or both? Yes, that's right. Your job is protect your own treason while uncovering the others. All while putting up a friendly front. You know that everyone in your troubleshooting team is a traitor - but you have to find evidence. Spreading rumors is treason.
Anyone interested? Hopefully this game will be flexible to posting requirements and player requirements. Oh, and for you tech-savvy or financially gifted Innmates, reading a paranoia rulebook is treason.

gaming
Main thread is up. Character creation is short and I should be able to get the game started soon. Though working together is a good idea, it's not mandatory.

lol
I must say, it's definitely one of the most amusing game concepts I've seen... I'll check by later after I see if I have an idea of how to play this as well as enough time to devote to it... hmm... character concept/inspiration is something to look at too...

Character Making
All names go like this:
A first name, a dash, your class (R for Red), the subsector where you were first cloned (any four letters), and your clone number (1).
So it could be Bob-R-PRIO-1 or something similar.
And then a basic personality: What did you do as an infrared (anything from stacking boxes to sweeping hallways to food service to security to medical to whatever really. Skill has little to do it. Infrareds can do anything - ranking is only used for information purposes. Of course some jobs will be restricted to higher ranks (like troubleshooter) but those are few and far between.
Also I need some hobbies and desires and dreams and ambitions, including treasonous thoughts (do you want to see the outdoors, work on computers, study things, rule the place, bring anarchy, become a mutant, kill mutants, destroy certain things, etc.)
That will help me determine which Secret Society recruits you. You will each have a group mission, which is really just an excuse to play the game. The real meat will be your mission from your secret society. They will help you out, they will share treasonous thoughts with you, give you information that Friend Computer won't, and basically be your backup.
Some of you might also have a mutation, which you may or may not want registered. If you absolutely want a mutation or do not want one, let me know - otherwise there is a method. You might become mutation in game, or lose your mutation in game as well.
Also you need weapons. As troubleshooters you have access to any and all weaponry. But as Reds you don't have access to any manuals except for the basic autolaser. Use anything else at your own peril. Seriously, make up any weapon you can think of - crank powered forcefields, lightning guns, death rays, acid-shooters - but don't always expect them to work properly or at all, unless someone of higher color in your SS gives you the manual.

Luckily as an Ultraviolet, I don't need a reason to kill you.

Oh man,,,
... I loved this game when it came out over 20 years ago.. it was always a good way for frequent D&D parties to work off some steam and get even with the other player who caused their characters death or some other misfortune.
I am tempted.. but I am stretched thin now as it is and one more game.. would push me over the edge. I wish you luck in finding players and recommend this to everyone. If you havent played it give it a try... you'll love it!
p.s. If anyone wants to risk instant termination for their character... I have the Paranoia Rulebook in Electronic format.

psh
The entire rules section is labeled optional. Don't count on anything you're reading to be true in this game XD
You can learn everything you need to know about the game online.
I will use the outline Reralae used because I think it covers everything we need. Please use this format.
Name: XXX-R-FOUR-1
Mutation: Do you want one, not want one, or don't care.
Personality: General impression someone might get from meeting you, and if it would be correct.
Infrared: What you did before, if you liked it, and if you were good at it.
Hobbies: What you do in your spare time, as little as it may be.
Problematic Objectives: One or two things you'd like to have happen before you die. Either something you want to discover, invent, study, obtain, do, see, or whatever. These should be highly treasonous things, because it's probably going to determine which SS recruits you.
Weapon: You get your autolaser and a hunting knife, and one other weapon to start.

oh yea
And send them via PM!
Note on wardrobe. Everyone wears the standard jumpsuits while working, sort of like The Island. There are very rare casual days when Friend Computer lets everyone wear anything they want, which is usually not allowed outside of personal chambers.
You can wear whatever you want in your own room, as long as all your private clothes have been approved as non-treasonous by a Green or higher. This might be different from what I told some of you earlier. Some issues I didn't anticipate came up. Further information is classified XD
