end of the world, or 5th dimension?

I was wondering what the opinions are here concerning 2012, and the predictions that have been made relating to december of that year.

I think it's interesting: some ideas are completely fantastic (as in fantasy-like), while others are seriously scientific, with most of the predictions being some kind of mix of both.

No matter what is actually going to happen, what do you find appealing, scary or otherwise? Say it here!

If you don't know what I'm talking about: google "12 2012". I'm not going to explain it here, because that would just ruin it for you.

Didn't the people say the same back in 1999?

The end of the world is always nigh it seems.

hm...

I was born right after the Cold War ended, and 1999 proved to be false. So I've been cheated out of armgageddon two times too many to get my hopes up now.

end of the world

as we know it.

Our world has already begun to change with the election of our first African American president, the Iranians capability to build a bomb, the global economic breakdown etc etc etc.

I don't know WHAT will happen but I doubt the human race will cease to exist as a whole. However, a cosmic alignment such as the one forecast not only by the Mayans but present day scientists WILL have effects.

yes

indeed. the millenium issue was just a digital one. This involves more than just computers or human influence.

I'm not saying that I think we should all be afraid... very afraid. I'm just asking for opinions.

Mayans

It's important to note that A) The Mayan calendar dfoesn't end in 2012, it just rolls over. Kind of like when you get to Dec 31, the world doesn't end, you just get a new count; and B) The Mayans failed to predict the end of their own civilization, so why should we take them seriously even if they had predicted the end of the world?

Also, as far as I know, there is no astronomical significance predicted for the year whatsoever, and I'm curious as to what you're talking about there.

We are, and by that I mean England is, hosting the Olympics. Isn't that bad enough without any doomsday theories?

OK, I kid, I do have some national pride.

I say these theories are a load of rubbish, we've all survived one doomsday, the year 2000, so it'll just be another gesture involving less then 5 fingers at anyone who believes such nonsense.

Four year happenings?

I mean, I seem to notice that every four years, there's a new threat to the human nation. I mean, I there was Y2K, then I heard a "World would end" in 2004, four year ago, A guy told me the end of the world was on a tuesday... can't remember which though.

I personally think it's all garbage. I think the world will end however... as soon as nuclear war happens.

Dam, I sound morbid.

My thoughts?

Nostradamus predicted it (in a general fashion).

Teh Mayan calendar predicts it (specifically).

The Mayan calandar has proven to be more specifically accruate than Nostradamus' "glittering generalities".

If it is bound to happen, all the collected knowledge in the world can't and won't stop it. And there will be very few left to care about details after the fact.

I do find it interestuing that Obama has been elected to lead the nation during it's last four years of existence ...

JJ, I'll make you a bet.

JJ, since you think the worlds gonna end in 2012, I bet you that if I make a post here in 2013, you have to walk around for a whole month in your pajamas. The same pajamas. And you can't wash them. Or you.

Deal?

Nos?

Nostradamus didn't predict anything. He has diarrhea of the inkwell and a bunch of people pretend to interpret his writings into prediction. Anyone can babble incoherently with such volume that if you look hard enough, it might look like a vague-ish prediction of something that actually happened.

The Mayans, as I said before, did NOT predict the end of the world in 2012 at all. It's just rolling the odometer, so to speak, nothing more. I tell you what, though: if you really believe the world will end in December of 2012, I'll gladly take everything you own the day before. Since the world is ending, you won't need it anymore, right? If you're not willing to give it to me, I guess that says where your real belief lies, no?

my favorite

My personal favorite is the one that says we are all going to enter a new phase of being and unlock our latent psychic powers in December 2012.

My hopes are there.

Psychic powers...

now THAT would be awesome. But again, my expectations are low.

A hope...

I'd hope that cyberspacial universes existed by then... but that might be because I'd like to make my own world with a medium different than ones which are written...
