Decorating Style
I was reading that each new US President gets a 100,000 allowance to re-decorate their personal living quarters at the White House(East Wing)
I was just wondering, with all the creativity here at the Inn, what decorating tips we Innmates might come up with for our new President.
Personally I think a bearskin rug and a disco ball would be just the right touches.

"Allotment" ?
I guess that word would work as well as any. The funds ARE alotted by the government, but are taken from money generated by the ever-increasing tax burden of the general populace.
The best decorating hint I would have wouldn't cost a cent (at least not out of his "allowance").
Evict the Obamas, and replace them with someone who is hot a product of a political system as corrupt as that of Illinois ... (McCain? Nader? Joe the Plumber?)

heh
You're going to have to go deeper than that to find someone who isn't corrupt.
I vote we randomly plunk some guy out of the middle of Montana.
Speaking of, they could decorate the White House like Montana!

LBJ already did that
and Kennedy decorated it like a New england Bed & Breakfast,
Carter had a duplicate of his home's living room built and furnished,
Clinton had an extra, hiddenn bedroom installed (they still haven't found it),
One of 'em (?) put in a bowling alley,
And Obama wants to install a half-court basketball chamber.
The list goes on, and we are still paying for them.
A question: Does anyone but me think it's strange that the "seat" of our government isn't even IN. or a part of the United States? Look it up, the phrase used in the news is "the United States and the District of Columbia". It is not a state, nor is it even a U. S. territory.
*steps down from his soapbox, picks it up and tuckes it under his arm, then skulks away ...*

Heck, do it like Iceland!
Have them bring in actual snow and build a giant freezer to store it in. Then cover the floor with it and when it melts you can get more (out of the freezer).
I'll take my $100k now, please.

Ooh, ooh, and George W. Bush can be the drink-sodden hobo sleeping outside!
Or maybe the chap in stocks having shoes thrown at him.

Definitely medieval
Think of all the Renn Faires that would be able to supply items, at a reasonable cost, of course. Now there's an economic stimulus that makes sense

I’m with Wyrmsting on this one…
The US President does *not* need to spend more than twice the average annual income on redecorating every four years. (Not saying we have it any better in the UK, but still…)
I’d refund 95% of that money to the people who actually earned it, and use the rest for whatever’s actually needed. Anyone who can spend $25,000 dollars a year (of other people’s money) on furniture and ornaments doesn’t really have any business representing ordinary people in the first place.

Its not an easy life
He does have kind of a hard job. And the contractors who install all the new furnishings probably aren't cheap. Neither will the materials or labor that comes with that.
I'm sure a number of people could do as good of or better than Obama as president, but good luck convincing enough people of that.
EDIT: I would make room decorated like a prairie house, too.

Pirates? bleh
Ninjas > Pirates. It's kind of amazing how Ninjas vs. Pirates can work its way into almost any conversation nowadays.
