Diabolic Genesis-Origins of Evil Q&A
Character creation details:
All components and aspects of your character must come from the phb 3.5, phb II 3.5, dmg 3.5, dmg II 3.5.
Other books will be made available to characters as they level.
You will be making a 5th level character.
Use the standard point buy system detailed in the DMG pg. 169 for generating ability scores. You get 60pnts to spend plus the one ability score point raise at 4th level.
WEALTH BY LEVEL EDIT: The "Wealth by Level" has been overridden. The new wealth by level cap is 10,000 gp, which should allow for a 2500GP limit on any one item in consideration of the individual item spending limit.
Restrictions:
two ability scores of 18 maximum. One of which may be a 19 after 4th lvl ability point raise.
No characters with Evil alignments.
NO ability scores below 10 after racial adjustments.
NO ability scores above 18 after racial adjustments (with exception to added ability score at 4th level).
You MAY NOT put more than 25% of your "Wealth by Level" money into any one item.
-----------------------------------------------------------
All magic users need to use the magic pool system. You get mp in the following manner:
caster lvl X Int,cha, or Wis (According to class) mod =?pnts
spell lvls over 0 lvl= ? pnts
Spells/day X Spell lvl= ? pnts
Add points together and that's your MP. Put questions for character creation clarification in this thread. THANX

???
I've never used a magic pool system before and am a little lost trying to figure out how many MP the character should have.
If CL is 2, relevant ability modifier is 4, has access to 1st level spells and has 1 spell/day...
...does he have 10MP?
If that's right I think I might have it. If that's wrong I'm completely lost.

what are you playing?
Rather than trying to search for a class type that fits those criteria (CL2, mod 4, 1st level spells, 1 spell/day), maybe you can tell me what your class is or better yet pm your character to me as is and i can see if you have your mp correct.
P.S. That's a pretty high mod, don't you have bonus spells?

Are templates okay?

Another question...
But first, an answer to your question.
"What are you playing?"
I'm putting together a paladin who, after 4th level, has a caster level equal to half of his paladin level.
His base allotment of spells per day is 0 at 5th level, so after bonus spells he has 1 spell per day to use.
He only has access to 1st level spells at this point.
Now on to my question.
I finished putting the character together and began working on equipment. The first thing I went after was a Mithril Breastplate and the tag on that thing, according to the magic item compendium, is 4,200gp. It was about here that I remembered something about a limit on the amount spent on individual items so I came back here to check the creation rules before doing any more shopping.
No more than 25% of 9000 cap on a single item.
Oh well. No breastplate for me. Moving on.... wait a minute. 25% of 9000 means no more than 2250 spent on any item. The cheapest magic weapon is a +1 dagger coming in @ 2302gp, just above the limiter.
I assume the limit is to keep us from pouring all the money into one or two really powerful items. Did +1 weapons get caught by accident, or is this all part of your devious plan for our characters?

10 pnts sounds right to me having that new info.
This is good because you can cast a little more!

yes to a point......response to Gboy's question
as long as the templates are coming from the books listed then yes they are ok. No templates at this point from the monster manuals are to be used.

Trust me
all part of the plan. believe me when I say there is plenty that can be garnered from adventuring in this campaign plus rewards and incentives galore!

See above "Wealth by Level Edit"
Hope this helps a little.

Hmm...
Okay, fine... and there goes the idea of the sneaky half-vampire.
Still making a rogue character...
May I inquire as to how "Books will be made available as they level." works? Does this mean that prestige classes may be possible from other sources at sixth level?

GBOY-May I inquire as to how ....... response
Yes thats exactly what it means, but not just prestige classes, but feats, grafts, and spells. Chances are that most of the additional books and references will be from other campaign settings, but we all have to agree on a book at each level that we ALL own, DM inclusive. Its only fair.

What if...
What if the person who requested the book be added was able to supply a link to that book, in case of the person not owning the book in question?
I mean, I don't physically own any of the listed books besides the PHB I. But, I have the PHB II and DMG in PDF format from a download site. Would that work? Just giving out the link?
Because I myself often build my characters towards a certain class... and if a class is restricted at creation, then I am left with few choices...
Could I request a book to be available right now? Like, request it to be available next level or something.

I suppose
I guess I should post here, just to announce my presence 'n' such. I posted in the recruitment, but that thread seems to be old news in comparison to these conversations.
I just wanted to note that it might be difficult to make sure everyone has any given newly included book, so this plan of sending links might help with this. I personally have access to a rather large amount of books. Another option would be for the person with the book to type up a short list of what that book has so that a person interested in that book can inquire further. This last idea will take a lot of writing on the part of the person(s) with the book in question.
Anyway- from the looks of it we have at least a Paladin in order. I wonder what I want to play. A rogue sounds awfully inviting. Maybe, maybe not.

Well Sibelius...
I was thinking of playing a rogue/wizard. However, I would be focusing more on the wizard part than the rogue part. It's simply for the requirements of my Prestige class which I want to opt into that I need a level of rogue. I probably would take a couple though, after I finished the class, to benefit from the reflex save, extra sneak attack, and evasion.
However, it would seem as though we are lacking a straight rogue... so that could work if you wanted it.

Actually I've been searching for a PDF download site.
Are the downloads free and do you have to register to download? Please post the link. I'm hoping they have books I dont presently have.

Link to Download... at least a decent one.
I myself use this site to download... it's got a decent supply, and it's easy enough to find most of what you're looking for.
In the case that this opens things for request, I request that Complete Scoundrel be allowed for next level.
