Really fun mini-series
Just the other night I watched an amazing mini series on Syfy, it was called Alice, and it was a modern dark look at the Wonderland stories. I thought it was very creatively done, and believable too. The same studio did another mini series I enjoyed as well called Tin Man, which is to Wizard of Oz what Alice was to Wonderland. The characters were fun, the mythos while changed was likable, and the story of both just kept me hooked.
I watched both series back to back nonstop, Alice was a two part series I recorded to my dvr to watch as one long event rather than the two night thing, Tin Man was a 4 part series, which I bought on dvd at the recommendation of a friend.
I'm not sure how to classify these translations of the classic tales, but I know I enjoyed them through and through.
Did anyone else see either of these, what are your thoughts, and have you seen any other original series that take well-known classics like these and do such wonderful creative things with them?

Tin Man
I saw Tin Man not long after it came out. It was really neat. The whole Clevage Monkey business was hema-entertaining. The rest of the concept behind it was interesting too. I just love when people mess with the conventional stories from our childhoods to give another prospective on the events. And Oz is such a great one to work with.
I'd heard something about this Alice show but didn't realize it was by the same people. Will have to check that out.
Thanks Wolf!
M.

great remake
Without giving too much away the series Alice is set supposedly 150 years (wonderland time) after the Alice from the stories went to wonderland. She is referred to as 'Alice of Legend' because she brought down the house of cards. Some people in Wonderland think that Alice in the series is Alice of Legend, and it gets really interesting.

hmm
I will have to check this out. I am currently and hugely into Changeling: the Lost (White Wolf) and this sounds like something that might give me some inspirations.
I'll have a look at this when I have time. Thanks for pointing this out

Alice
I did check out Tin Man. I forgot how much I loved it, I'll have to check out Alice!
By the way, anybody else read the Looking Glass Wars? I forget the author at the moment, but it's sort of a neo-futuristic look at Wonderland and plays for power and stuff. It's pretty righteous.

speaking of...
That reminds me. There's a really cool webcomic about the world of Grimm. Not Alice or Oz, but worth looking at.

Hmm
I read somewhere Tim Curry was in this. Oh how I do love the sound of his voice.

Tim Curry was in fact in Alice, a small part, but a part none the less.

speaking of remakes
Avoid "The Prisoner" remake if you can. The writers/producers/directors missed the point of the series completely. Confusing garbage. No even Ian McKellan can save it.

Taped Prisoner, Watched Alice
Ok have not had the time to watch the taped 'Prisoner' so no comment's there, but I did however watch both nights of Alice. even missed a new episode of Castle to watch
I have to sadly say I was not overly impressed, yes it had its moments, like Matt Frewer's semi-cowardly White Knight, The guy from Prime Evil as the Mad Hatter, but they could have found a better Alice. The storyline at points made no sense but I guess as it was put forth it may not have been meant to make sense. However it did keep me watching till the end so my grade is a low C.
