RedWyrm School of Online Adventuring - Recruitment

Redwyrm’s School of Online Adventuring
Clutched in your hand is, in some circles, a parchment more precious than gold. On your way along this rather desolate road you have stopped and reread the words again, making sure that you missed nothing in your first three hundred readings of the document.

Greetings from far and wide.

We are pleased to inform you that your application to the Redwyrm School of Online Adventuring has finally been accepted.

You are expected to report to the school this coming Friday. Transportation will not be provided, so please make the proper arrangements as we do not take kindly to late appearances. A map has been included to assist you with your travel plans.

Professor O’Leary will be expecting your arrival.

Congratulations

On the back of the letter a crude map had been drawn. It had taken awhile to decipher it, partly due to the fact that it had no cardinal directions marked and most of the towns and roads were obscurely named. However after much deliberation you felt (almost) certain that you had figured out where to go.

You pull the map back out and examine it again now, though. Could this be right?

The road you are on stretches out to the north and south in a perfect straight line, never seeming to end in either direction. Trees surround the road, each looking like the one before and the one after it. With a sigh you look around again before going back to the map. If you’ve read it correctly you should see the school now just off to your left. You squint and peer into the trees.

What happens next happens in a quick flurry. Something leaps out of the trees at you, lunging forward and knocking you off your feet and onto your back in the middle of the road. Before you can get a good look at it a sticky warm feeling spreads across your face and you realize it has licked you. Out of the woods a female voice cries out.

“Get off already! You really should give them some warning before you do that!”

Laughter breaks across the road an elf wearing a brightly colored polka dotted hat climbs off of you. “Ah come on Mer. Look it’s alright…” The elf points down at you and grins.

When you stand up you notice that the forest has disappeared and left a large clearing, in the middle of this clearing is one of the strangest buildings you have ever seen. It seems to be a collaboration of halls that have been built rather haphazardly. Each one appearing different from the rest. They seem to spider out from a central hall. The elf who licked you stands close by and behind him is the cloaked figure of a woman.

“Well you’ve said your hello… don’t you have some post to be working on?” The woman said from beneath her hood.

“Just wanted to welcome the new guy.” The elf grinned and winked at you before heading into the large double doors at the end of the nearest hall.

The woman then turns toward you. She outstretches her hand and offers a handkerchief to you. “For the spittle…”

Her other hand pulls the hood of the cloak down. A young human woman stands before you, red curls framing her face, blue eyes looking at you over a smiling bud of lips. “Welcome… I’m Professor Merideth O’Leary. Let us head to my office and we will discuss your courses.”

What this is about:

This is an ongoing recruitment for the RedWyrm School of Online Adventuring.

I am running this ‘game’ in order to offer some guidance to members in the arena of participating in and potentially running games on this site. I imagine that typically this will be useful for new members, but members with more experience are certainly welcome to participate as well, either for the furthering of their own abilities and knowledge or to offer a guiding hand.

The concept is that players interested in participating will join as students of the RedWyrm School. There they will participate in adventures either alone or with others that will be tailored to the needs of the player(s).

The flow of this game will follow the normal proceedings that nearly all games follow on this site.

It begins here with a recruitment thread. Those interested in joining will submit a character concept and sheet to me according to the parameters stated in the recruitment thread (below). Once the finalized character has been approved the player will be allowed to post on the game thread in character. A Q&A thread will also be created where out of character (OOC) discussions will be conducted.

How to join in:

This is what is required for a character submission:

Character Concept/Background
Please provide me with a brief overview of the character you will be creating. Things like personality, pertinent background information, goals and motivations. This needs to at least be one or two paragraphs, however, if it turns out much longer that is certainly acceptable. Most DM¡¦s will require this information and many will ask you to provide this before submitting a character stats.

Character Sheet
This will need to include all the good basic information such as:

Name
Age
Race
Class
Alignment

It will also need all those gritty character details such as:

Basic Stats
Skills
Feats
Equipment
Attacks

Parameters
For this game please keep these parameters in mind while creating your character:

All student characters will need to built at level 1 (if you are interested in adding a staff member to the group please contact me to discuss this)

Currently I am restricting the possibilities for character creation by saying that this will be 3.5e and only the core books (PHB, Monster Manual, DMG, although if something does not arise from the PHB please not that on your character sheet). This game is not about building fantastically complex characters that can bring down dragons with the daggers in their eyes, this is about improving your skills at gaming here at the Inn.

As for obtaining stats, I prefer a 34 pt buy. Although honestly, if you would rather roll them feel free I am not overly concerned about the actual stats as this is more a learning exercise.

I will be posting Professor O¡¦Leary¡¦s sheet on the Q&A for an example of what this submission should look like (keep in mind that your character will not be at the same level she is). There are also some very good premade sheets in our vault that can be used.

Sending this information to me (or any DM) can happen in a variety of methods. The most common are to either send PM with the information or to send an email with an attachment with the information. You might want to check with future DM¡¦s to see if there is a way they prefer to receive the information and if there is any particular information they desire or a particular style they like to have the information in.

I am fine with either way, however I would request that if you send the sheet via email that you send me a PM letting me know to check my inbox.

If you need some help on how to create an interesting character check out the blogs by Eol on character creation.

For more personal assistance, send me a note.

Also: Be thinking about what you would like to improve on when it comes to your gaming abilities, I will be asking this after getting your character sheet in.

Prof. M.

A game with Meri and Eol

You know I have to participate in some way. Perhaps a senior student? Can I please? I'm definitely thinking mage of some sort since that's almost always what I play.

I'm in.

Sounds like fun. I will fill whatever role desired. I can be a student or staff, whatever our headmaster believes me worthy of. For now though, I'm putting together a student persona unless Meri tells me otherwise. Also, if nothing else, this school will give potential games a pool of players to pull from as well as a learning experience. I really like the idea.

I'm in, But...

I don't know how to make a character sheet for D&D 4th edition yet, let alone 3.5. I have a concept in mind but would need help with the ins and out of charater building in this system and where it is set (For background reasons) if you want post examples then look in Mivaras Dilirium.

No post examples here

This is a newbie's game there's no need for post examples me thinks. Pm me the character concept and I'll help you with a character (the number crunching anyways).

The Goliath would be a tribe member who erned the right to get schooling

The dwarf would be a member of dwarven noblility and had the money for schooling

i dont have details as i would need to know whi im playing first. They are just ideas

And thanks

Well!

Such a warm response thus far!

How very exciting.

Steel go ahead and check your PM's I'm sending you something shortly.

Conquest... yes Ion is correct (I am also debating if I need to pull out the paddle and remind him that he's a student too ) no references necessary for this. And not knowing a thing about D&D character building makes you perfect for this. It is purely an educational experiment.

I'm going to go ahead and throw you a PM too, so keep your eyes open for it.

Thank you very kindly, all of you!

Prof. M.

But professor

I'm an A student we can get away with more. I helped Mr. C with his numbers though it occurs to me that I probably should have explained where the numbers came from better since as I recall he doesn't have 3.5 books so all I really did was enable him. Ah well.

Very Interested

Hey all! As I have said before I am new to this. I am currently following the Realms of Twilight game done by Steelight. I am also participating in Mivara's Delerium.
Was interested in joining here. I have talked to Steelight and he said he would help me a bit getting my character together.
