No Game Tonight?! What now???

Hello, All!

Those of us who do the tabletop gaming thing often enough have been in this situation more than a few times: It's game night but something's getting in the way work, school, family and such. So, without enough players or possibly a GM, those that did show up still want to do something fun and not simply write off a Saturday night. So the question I put to everyone is what do you do to salvage an aborted Game Night?

Entertaining board games

There is a good board game called the Red Dragon Inn (no joke, it's actually called that). It's basically what adventurers do after the adventure. Everyone is in a tavern and starts off with a certain fortitude and alcohol level. Each round the players play cards on each other and drink (in the game, not in reality... unless you really want to). If you run out of gold the bartender kicks you out. If you get drunk and pass out, the other players go through your pockets and then you get thrown out. I find it rather entertaining.

There is also the Order of the Stick game and a few more that I think are pretty cool.

The other option, that I have done before, is to have a set of premade characters, something that you guys don't normally play, and send them into something simple. A pre-written adventure or a few bouts in the arena or something if you really have your heart set on playing D&D.

Re: Board Games

Any chance of this site getting paid royalties on the name, Steelight?

Two WotC products that I've found are great anytime are Three Dragon Ante and Inn-Fighting.

Dare I even mention DragonStrike??

Oh!

I have seen the game in stores, but hadn't actually picked it up, wasn't sure if it was any good.

Might have to (when my bank account has more than butterflies in it again) now!

We like Munchkin, Last Night On Earth, Dominion and of course... Wise or Otherwise

Munchkinz Rule!

Btw, did you need help with that potted plant?

In Munchkin we usually saved our consumable items like potions and such to screw over other players, thanks to the devious antisocial mind of Nick T. I remember very vividly during a four player game and Chris J asked if Richard would help for a treasure. Richard replied that he would not *ahem* hinder CJ's fight for a treasure. Back-stabbity fun!

Steelight, my lad! I checked out Red Dragon Inn on BoardGameGeek and my interest is certainly piqued! Might just have to pick that one up.

Board Games!

The people I play and hang out with (different people) all like to board game, so it's never difficult to find something to do, providing someone brought something besides his or her D&D stuff. Luckily, we know well ahead of time and can plan accordingly.

Our current favorite is Dominion (and all it's expansions).
