most unusual/thrilling end to a campaign...
I was just wondering what was the craziest end to a campaign youve ever had? My very first character, a lvl 10 cleric named jozan ( can you guess where I got my name from =P ) and my brothers elven warrior, also level 10, were in a pyramid, and Jozan had gone insane, and with his holy mace, collapsed the room they were in, killing him, and mortally wounding the elf. What makes this really insane is that there was a tribe of super-orcs after us, who had drank sludge waste from a downed alien craft! geeze that was fun lol

Tossing the sword
One campaign I played had the party fightng an evil dude who had "protected" himself for any damage. His weakness was his own sword, which could damage and kill him.
So the party found this out, engaged him in combat. They managed after some time and injury to get the sword off him. But even without the swrod, he had the ability to do massive damage.
So the final battle consist of one of them using the sword while the others distracted him with "useless" missiles. Every time one got wounded, then another would run up, grab the sword and continue.
Finally, the sword is fumbled and dropped. The evil dude goes for it ... and fumbles. (kicks sword across room)
So the Cavalier goes for it ... and fumbles. (kicks sword across room)
The Fighter Mage goes for it ... and fumbles. (kicks sword across room)
The NPC Warrior goes for it ... and fumbles. (kicks sword across room)
The Evil Dude tries again to get it ... and fumbles. (kicks sword across room)
Finally the thief gets the sword and delivers the final blow. But I have never had that many consecutive fumbles in a battle before. One slippery sword.

That reminds me
There was one point where I had laid out this masterful battle which undoubtably would be long and suitably epic, with harsh blows to each side. Unfortunately for me, my players must have bribed the dice with sacrifices.
Enemies: Something like 10 consecutive 1's, most on saves they need a 2+ to pass.
Players: 9 Criticals, 2 of which with vorpal weapons and one of which to do exactly enough damage to knock the villian unconcious right before he would have surely killed the player (if the dice snapped out of it that is.)
Freaked me out, I now own new dice.

I never borrow anyone elses dice just for those reasons. Its like they know who it is and roll bad for everyone except the owner. It always seems to screw me over just as its at the climax of a battle or something....* mumbles something about falling off the rafters...*

...
Had a 1st level elf magic-user who killed a grey dragon with a arrow from a bow. Unfortunately, it really was a reactor that was part of a space ship. Took most of the countryside with it. If you have to go….

uh?
The great quantity of space ships in this topic confuses me. I will now block it all out of my head by singing badly.

forgotten realms
When we were playing the last module of the Forgotten Realms 2nd edition adventure trilogy, involving Marco Volo (Departure, Journey and Arrival) I experienced something with my dice very similar to what was described earlier.
I was a player then, an Alaghi fighter with two two-handed swords (power-play to the max). We were inside a round chamber with several openings. Through the openings poured Githyanki fighters, but we had to hold them off until an NPC ran three circles inside the chamber. We also had to protect him, of course. My character was guarding one of the openings alone, and he was scoring critical hit after critical hit. The cool thing was that the entire evening prior to this final battle I had been rolling nothing but misses. It was like my dice had been holding their special powers until the end.
It was awesome.

In that line....
I had a Dwarf fighter who decided that he would enter a dagger throwing contest while drunk after failing measurably in a contest with battle axes in which he specialized and in a drinking contest which he lost to an elf despite an exceptionally high constitution. As a player, I did not expect anything because he was non proficient with daggers and did not have a high dexterity. Well, the dice decided that he would win. One natural 20 after another was rolled in the middle of the table. The DM even made me use one of his dice. Same result. In battle, he preferred the axe but when he used the dagger! He could never get anyone to teach hem because he the “to hit” would be either a 19 or 20.
The other players got the DM to grant him proficiency in dagger (thrown and otherwise)

Most Amazing Ending.....
We had a game where we were fighting Asmodeus as the "ending boss", you might say. My monk, who is about level thirty, if you wish to know, said, "I'll study his movements for about five rounds, then I'll go for him. Meanwhile, you guys keep him busy."
The players protested, obviously, but they did it anyway because their characters trusted my monk with all their hearts. He was almost a father-figure for a few, you might say. Anyway, the battle was not going well at all, everybody was getting massive damage done to them and two of them died.
Finally, my monk went into action. "I am going to..." (rolled 20......20.......20!)"slay thee!"
The DM shook his head, "You leap into action, grabbing Asmodeus' head and twisting it 360 degrees, then rip it off and as his soul was leaving his body, you break it over your knee. Thank you, you just screwed over the heirarchy of the abyss!"

I'm suprised your DM didnt make up a magical ring or something that let him be resistant to death attacks. But that reminded me of when me and my brother were being Dmed by my friend, and he had a bullette come after us. He was playing a warforged barbarian, and I a rogue/assasin shifter. The battle was going one sided, just as my sneak attacks both missed, my bro gets swallowed whole, and he needs to hack his way out. come to find out he has no lightr slashing weapons so he has to wait until I can kill it. all im armed with is a cursed dagger which the curse is if i damage it on a FORT DC of 14, if they fail there innards turn to a black acidic goo and die. the thing needed a three or higher to pass, i hit it once, he rolls....2. I saved both of us, but my bro was severely damaged....about a half n hour later that same character, the assasin, gets literally chewed on by a hill giant and I retire the character permanenantly.... * tear *

not an ending
This is not really about an unusual ending, but it IS about rolling criticals a lot.
One of the groups I played with had this guy who played a huge, strong fighter. After a while we started to realize that he scored a lot of criticals, and never EVER rolled a 1. Then his brother examined his d20, the same one he used all the time. It turned out that he had found a dice somewhere with 2 opposed 20s and no 1. He acted like he didn't know that about the dice, but we all knew he did.
The cheater!
