New to D&D

Hello, all. I recently discovered your website when searching for a printable character sheet, and at first I thought it was just another "ghost town" that had been inactive for years. Then I saw that some of the forum topics were less than a week old, and I thought "Hey! There ARE still people who don't use 3.5 rules." So I thought I'd join up and introduce myself.
I'm the DM of a small (7 or group of D&D nerds, and we've only had two gaming sessions, the last of which ended in a total party wipe (six level 1's got mopped by five hobgoblins, who'd have guessed?). We use the 1st Edition Revised rules, because that's what my dad used in college, so we already had the set of books. I'm looking forward to being a semi-active member of RDI.

Not a ghost town?

Ohh... yeah I guess not. We're here, quiet a few of us on a daily basis at least to some degree.

Glad you could join us Michael.

You'll find a wide variety of gaming systems used here and hopefully you'll find some things that you'll find useful. We focus alot on forum based games here, but we have lots of resources for people who prefer tabletop too. I personally do both.

Let us know if you need anything. Us purple people are staff, but honestly just about anyone whose been around can help you out and will be glad to do so. We're pretty friendly.

Just uh... don't feed the Grugg when he shows up... and... here's a towel, you'll need it later.

M.

Holy Schnikes!

We appear to have attracted a bona-fide dinosaur--er, ahem--a stalwart practitioner of an oft-forgotten and venerated edition! Huzzah!

It might be a little difficult to round up players of OD&D, but they are here somewhere *looks under rock, then barstool, then table*. I, too, remember those storied days of yesteryear when being a Dwarf or Elf was not just a race, but a class as well! Pull up a chair and sit a spell, woncha? I'll just sit on the floor as no chair can hold me.

Welcome to your new digital home, Michael (you. . .wouldn't happen to be a deva, or planetar, or archon of some kind, wouldja? Paladins make me nervous enough!)! Here's a stein of spiced mead and bouquet of wildflowers for ya! I see Meri got you a towel, hold onto it.

Please check out our resident webcomics, Loaded Dice and Old Wizard, and vote each day for the Inn at the home page!

*Tail Wags!*

There is a thriving number of 2e hangerons here. Welcome to the inn.

Not quite a dinosaur

Hmm, now I'm confused... When I searched the ISBN for my rulebook, The majority of results said it was a copy of the AD&D First Edition Revised, but judging by your responses I'd say I have something slightly newer than that. New enough that Elves and Dwarves aren't a class by themselves, at least.
Anyways, thank you for the warm welcomes. Looking forward to my stay.

Haha

Okay, what is the artwork on the cover on your Dungeon Master's Guide? That'll clear things up in a jiffy!

DMG cover

On the cover of my DMG is a picture of an Efreet (I think) clutching a female character and wielding a sword, with a fighter and a wizard brandishing weapons/spells at it.

I've got two!!

That would be the DMG for the first version of Advanced D&D. They seperated race and class but don't have as many of the complex things as they did in 2nd edition.

I think.

Is that Michael as in the "Fist of God".

Welcome traveler! 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3.5, 4th, freestyle, Star Trek, Horror, poems, stories you name it and bet you'll find it here somewhere.

I have an old 1st edition players guide with the big orange Budda looking statue where the party was taking the gem out of it's eyes.

You can find adventure games to read and follow, recruitment looking for PBP players and just fun forums of all types. (I mostly do the Posting Games, but I recently joined in a couple of adventures.)

Don't forget to try the DragonChat room, a great place to get to know some of the Innmates. And if happen to stop in to Ody's Lonely Arms Inn there will a frost mug of "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh" awaiting you, compliments of the house.

Name

Actually, it's closer to "Who is like God?". It's actually my middle name, but people never spell my first name right so I use Michael on forums and such.

Well...

I imagine it would be hard to mispell your firt name, when it is printed on the screen right in front of us... but perhaps that is simply my logical mind at work.

Ody. . .

If Buddha looks like THAT, I'm running!

A similar pic can be found on the cover of PHB2 for 3.5. DMG2 also has a cover reminiscent of the original DMG artwork, nice tip of the hat to how it all began.

Well Michael is character in the Dresden File books.
Sorry for the misspell, it happens to old guys with fat fingers and bifocals, wouldn't be the FIRST (firt) time! lol

(My Firefox auto spell check doesn't work on the subject box.)

He likes it! Hey, Mikey!!!

Welcome aboard, Michael! Now you can put that towel to good use, huh? Personally, I recommend letting it soak in a little before you wipe it off... it makes you sparkly, you know? (And not that 'Twilight' kind of sparkly, either, thank you very much... I don't care how many teeny-boppers believe it, vampires DO NOT twinkle!!!).
