Art for our cover of book 2 is up. This is the first page I've colored where Laz has actually said he liked the page, so I'm pretty stoked.
For those that are bored, and like to hear my brag, I'll explain a some art tricks I did with the page. If you don't like to hear me brag, stop right here.
* I used different temperatures of color to differentiate the sky, golem, and apprentice. The sky is a warm yellowish color, the golem neutral, and the apprentice a cool cyan color.
* I placed the clouds at eye level to help the viewer understand how high the camera was, and the scope of the scene.
* Even though the sun is behind the golem and to its left, I have a secondary light source coming from his forward right. Rarely does a light source just illuminate one side of an object, as the light will usually bounce off some object and return towards the subject. Probably some big fluffy white cloud behind the apprentice reflecting the sun on his back.
* The highlights on the clouds are not as bright as the highlights on the golem. This is to help make them look further away with more atmosphere between them and the viewer.
* Tried to always change the level of light on a surface when it changed direction (something extremely difficult and time consuming with so many bricks involved).
