Fantasy Gaming Coins From Paizo

Greetz, All!

Found this in my web surfing today and wanted to share.

http://paizo.com/store/gameAids/other/campaignCoins

You'll find a varied and impressive selection of copper, silver, gold and even platinum-toned metal coins. The product reviews at Paizo have been quite good considering the prices they are asking for what is at its core play money.

This site has some of the exact same product for cheaper. I visit here often and recommend them without reservation.

The sizes for the 1# denominations are the size of pennies, with each successive denomination getting a little bigger. While the games don't necessarily use different coins in the same metal, and some denominations duplicate each other (50sp=5gp, yet both coins exist singly here) the designs look fantastic!

My quick review

Well, my order from CoolStuffInc. came in today and now I can speak much more directly as to the quality of this product. The pics on the sites I referenced earlier are just a bit misleading as the luster on the different tones is quite dull save for the platinum pieces. Even so, the platinum coinage tends to look a little too silvery for my taste as it lacks the subtle bluish tint of real platinum. Also, even though the packaging insists these are minted (i.e. struck between dies) some pieces betray a bit of flash around the edges indicating to me that these are either cast in molds or badly struck. I opted for the sets of 10, 50, and 100 denomination coins for the larger size coins and they range in size from just smaller than a nickel to just smaller than a quarter.

The designs on the pieces and the shape of some of them are very striking and each set has a theme, especially the gold pieces which have lots of Dwarven imagery on them. They feel reasonably solid but not as heavy as I would like. Each coin back is covered with a different pattern of scroll-work.

To conclude, the Campaign Coins are a nice novelty item and on the whole I'm satisfied with the four sets of 12 I bought. I don't feel it necessary to rush out and get more for actual table-top play as other reviewers of the product have so excitedly said they would do.

Nice one

Nice review Pit. Your findings did not surprise me. I was fairly sure those coins aren't really minted. They were simply too cheap for that. Probably made from the same alloy as miniatures generally are? Tin/zinc/lead perhaps?

Yet I'm tempted to order a bunch. It's just that the shipping costs from USA to Finland tend to be a bit too high compared to the value of the item in question.
