Would you like to write for the Inn?

Once upon a time, in the dark days of the Internet (right around the year 2000), a horrible, ugly little D&D web page was founded on the free Angelfire hosting service. Created by a guy wasting time in his college HTML class, it was in many ways an absolute abomination - the pages lacked a consistent look and feel, he placed every fantasy-related animated gif that he could find on the site... in short, it was terrible.

However, what the guy lacked in pizazz, he tried to make up for with usable content. He began posting articles on how to be a better player and DM. He shared scriblings from a three ring campaign binder about his homebrew setting. He added a hosted message board.

Amazingly, people came. Some stuch around. They discussed D&D, they began playing games of it on the cheesy message board hosted on the hokey site.

And the Red Dragon Inn was born.

***************

Over time, the site grew and evolved. A domain name was purchased. An actual design was applied. Utilities (dice roller, character generator, etc) were created. A forum (then, years later, another) was written just for the site. Chat was added, and for a time, was insanely popular.

The site won awards for its content. A sense of community grew, and people grew proud of the place. The Inn enjoyed a golden age.

***************

The webmaster gave away his time, bit by bit. Many of the founding, core members of the community, left. The entire membership went through a vast amount of turnover. And of course, there were crashes.

These days, the Inn is lucky to see half a dozen new pieces of actual content per year. We still enjoy a reasonably active message board, and we get a lot of visitors who use the utilities (the name generators, especially), but few stick around to participate in the site. Is this how it has to be?

I say, no.

I love the forums and the interaction there. I'd love to see the chat rooms busy again. I think that one thing the Inn is truly lacking is the regular addition of quality, useful gaming content. I'd like to change that.

Are you interested in having your writing published by the Inn? Would you like to create articles on a regular basis? Would you like to simply do one every now and then as you get the urge? Perhaps you'd like to host an RPG-related blog here on the site, or help participate in worldbuilding.

Contact me, please. A major strength of this site has always been the members of the community. I'd like to draw on that in an effort to build up the site as a whole.

I'm looking for the following:

Articles. These can be oriented towards the player or the GM; they can be about specific games and editions, or about roleplaying in general. They can involve rules, house rules, or interpretations, or they can be more related to general gaming.

Art. We have a large library of art unique to the site, but it has been some time since it was regularly added to. If you like to draw or paint, please consider sharing fantasy/RPG related material with us.

Creative works. Do you enjoy writing short stories or poems? Perhaps you get a kick out of making parody songs? Please share these with us. The Archives is chock full of great work - but again, we have seldom added to it of late.

Contributions to the Audalis campaign setting. Audalis was originally created by me for my own tabletop sessions, but I allowed a lot of input from my players to help shape the world. I followed that traditions when bringing the setting to the internat, and the world became a community-created setting, with a dozen contributing authors and many more than that who have contributed art, ideas, and playtesting.

While there is quite a bit of source material available, we have so much more that could be done. There are entire cities that are but a name on a map. There are organizations - both public and secret - that need to be created. There are heroes and villans waiting for their stories to be told. And of course, all this and more could be illustrated visually!

Blogs. Perhaps structured articles are not your thing - perhaps you are more suited to the stream of conciousness style associated with blogging. Great! If you are willing and able to produce an RPG related blog on anything resembling any sort of a schedule, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for your interest. I hope that you will help me to help the Inn move forward as a destination for those looking not only for a friendly commuity, but for useful gaming information.

How can I help?

Where does one send a submission? Is there a specific subject matter you are needing more than others?

I suspect...

... that t_catt would like them sent directly to him. Anything about gaming, really. I'd take a look at the articles already on the site to see the sort of thing.

Thanks

Id much rather decide where my skills are best needed before applying them However should a subject leap out and smack me until such time as that need is defined I will gladly apply my pen to its defeat.

Send it to a member of the staff. You can send it to me now, and I can view it, and fix you spot in the art-section.

I've written stuff

and posted it up on my thread in the creative works, but i'm not entirely sure that my material is what you're looking for Bossman. Let me know what you want written and I can try, I do love writing, once upon a time I wanted to be an author.

If I knew what the limitations and such were I'd try my hand at it

.

Would I be able to create a blog about my homebrew setting? i actually have a good amount of content (I'd like to belive so ) and decent quality hand drawn maps I'd love to upload. If it's possible, I'd like to document my setting and see how it fairs with everyone else

Hoo boy~!

Well, apart from being the LD artist, I have many other things that I would love to contribute. Myself and my Co-DM have a homebrew setting, and we write up an outline for every session we run. I could easily write up a blog for the sessions that we have weekly.

I always have art to contribute, and was thinking about doing a different webcomic to keep me creative and such. Focusing on one thing and only one thing can be bad, I get bored. I've already talked with t_catt a bit about the idea, but I haven't gotten around to writing up the info on it. Perhaps I should.

But I would love to have a spot that I could put up random drawings for you all that were game related or such. I have plenty of doodle from game and other commissions and such.

Also, Rawr~!

submissions

Since most of the staff is busy with real life, feel free to shoot any submissions to me. I tend to check my PM box at least every other day.

as far as that goes...

...I am more and more back into the "normal swing" of things, so submissions can be sent to me, as well.

In the interest of honesty...

... don't you think you ought to mention that everything posted on the site becomes copyrighted by the site?
