1985 D&D Report

60 Minutes on the dangers of D&D
I came across this link (not very good quality) that shows what it was like back in the 80's when D&D first came out. People actually believed that it was linked to death, satanism and suicide. I started gaming in 1982-3 so I heard a lot from the nay-sayers and BADD (Bothered about D&D).

yep

I recall those days. My mother HATED D&D, and didn't want me involved... my dad overruled her, would even sometimes take me to buy books, figuring that D&D was better than me hanging out and getting high with my friends.

I have never touched an illicit drug in my life.

I recall that it took a long time for my wife to be accepting of D&D... she'd been fed these lies, and had a very negative impression.

82-83...

...yeah, sounds about the time I started, too... and I vaguely recall seeing this episode of 60 Minutes, rolling my eyes, and dreading the speech my mom was sure to already be preparing.

You're evil... all of you... and I love it.

Bad reputations are hard to live down..

It was early 2000's before I started playing and I still had to face people thinking that D&D was satanic and telling me the evils of it.

People likened it to doing witchcraft and was told on more than one occasion it was the path to violence and damnation...
