A boy sat alone by the ocean
His sad eyes gazing into the horizon
He sat and stared, day after day, watching the static landscape
Never speaking a word.
Then one day, something changed.
A beautiful woman was dancing over the waves.
The boy watched her, his eyes becoming less sad
As she danced towards him.
She completed the final steps in front of him.
Turning to face him, she asked,"Boy, why are you sad?"
The boy replied,"My father has gone, leaving mother and I alone
But I must be strong. I musn't cry."
She smiled at him, taking off a beautiful bracelet the boy hadn't
noticed before.
"Take this, and think of me. Would that make you happy?"
The boy nodded, entranced by the woman.
He reached out and took the bracelet, putting it on, but when he looked
up to thank her
She was gone.
The boy returned home. Whenever he was sad, he looked at the bracelet,
He remembered the woman, and he did not cry.
Years passed, and the boy became a man, tall and strong
And still he wore the bracelet.
One day, the man returned to the ocean.
He sat, sad eyes gazing into the horizon
And not even the bracelet could stir him.
Day after day, he stared.
One day, the beautiful woman
Danced her ocean dance over the waves
stopping again in front of him.
She recognized him, saying "Boy, why are you sad?"
The man answered. "It has been many years since you gave
The bracelet to a boy. It helped me always, but now, my mother
Has died, and I am all alone, and not even the bracelet can help me."
The woman smiled and held out her hand.
When the man reached out to return her bracelet
She pulled him onto the water, saying, "Dance with me, boy, and be
happy."
And so they danced
Over the oceans, and across the seas
They danced, thinking of naught but each other
and the waves underfoot.
A year. A decade. A millenium. An eternity.
A moment.
They danced back to the shores from whence he came.
She danced him back on the beach, smiling at him.
"Be happy boy." But as she danced away he saw a tear run down her cheek.
He looked down.
At his feet was the bracelet.
To remind him of her with each glance.
Sadness.
Happiness.
Joy.
Sorrow.
And the man sat holding the bracelet,
Sad eyes staring across the ocean.....
.....and cried.
