iPhone?

I am finally coming over to the dark side... my wife got me an iPhone for our anniversary, so I'll be saying goodbye to my blackberry.

Actually, I'm very pleased about this - I have seen how friendly iPhones are, and my blackberry CONSTANTLY freezes up, making me do battery pulls on it. I will defintiely not miss that!

I haven't opened it yet, as my case hasn't arrived... I don't want to carry it without a case and screen protector. Regardless, thogh, I am stoked.

I think I need some kind of dice roller app for it. Just to be super nerdy.

Any other cool (preferably free/cheap) apps I should look at?

Well work got me an Iphone for me. I like most of the stuff about it accept the phone. Just hard for me to hear on it. But as a portable info thing I like it. I get my work email anywhere quick and easy.

Try app. Boost Magic to extend battery life.

Also I like Gas Buddy to find gas prices at local stations.

And for giggles IHandy Flashlight. Turns your camera flash to a flashlight. IHandy level is neat too.

Brianna Got an IPhone too

I just got IPhone last week, Still on leaning curve as to all that it can do. two great gaming apps from Paiso. I found two great little apps ICrit and IFumble from Paizo. They could really spice up gaming a bit.

Dice roller app...

I use 20Crit on my ipod (I think that's the name... something with 'crit' and '20' anyhow, icon looks like the edges of a d20 in white superimposed on a blue gradiant splash, with a red 20 on it)

It's pretty thorough, has I think all dice types, also lets you make specific rolls (ie 2d6+3d4) and save them. And of course, roll history, keeping track of what you rolled with what. No animations, just shows the numbers you get... simple and clean and efficient.

For stimulation of the grey matter, there's a game I like called Numeri. I can't even really compare it to anything else besides perhaps minesweeper. Objective is to make a bubble around the grid with the number of edges of the bubble matching the number in the square.

IE, example of a portion of the graph:

1 2 1 -> 1 | 2 | 1
1 3 1 -> 1 | 3 | 1

The tricky thing? Not all numbers are shown. Puzzly, and generates puzzles so there's an infinite number. Same size grid each time too.

Kludge is another game I played, kind of a 'safecracking' type puzzle game, except it's more like the game 'Mastermind' (if that's even what the board game is still called). Not much else to say about it.

I like those two games because they're short (unless you do something like 8+ number combinations on Kludge), and high replay value since it's all generated and continuous.

Dice roller

I have an app that cost nothing DnDice it's physics based and really emulates the dice has basic 4 6 8 10 12 20 and 100 I also have an initiative tracker ironically called initiative and iBooks has been updated to read PDF files now too most iPhones don't come with it but it's all free on the app store but then every thing I have written about here is free

Hope this helps

well

As of right now, I have Words/Scramble/Chess with friends. I have yet to challenge Alacrity to chess, though... I don't think my ego is quite ready for that sort of beatdown.

Alacrity: "Oh, I'm not that good of a chess player. Really, I'm still a beginner. What do you call that horsey piece, again?"

This before he takes you apart seventeen times in a row. Beginner, my foot.

Scrabble

Well I have challenged you to scrabble and I can honestly say that Lance and Cathy regularly beat me in that game.

Dunno about chess

I play go.

Or well, I did at one time. Probably very rusty at it by now, and I wan't too good at it to begin with.

Chess/Scrabble/Words... what were those again? I seem to recall the archaic terms from somewhere... Just teasing.

Only app I have on my phone right now (I use an ipod not an iphone, my phone is different) that qualifies as a game is just a farm sim-ish game.

Hmm... Let's see what insight I can shed here...

Welcome to the iPhone world. You'll enjoy yourself here, really.

In regards to Apps, there are a few that I find particularly good/useful:

1) iTunes U: I know it might seem weird to have, but iTunes U actually has a ton of information in it. It's just like going to university or college, but you don't have to pay ridiculous amounts of tuition, don't have to do homework, and aren't required to learn at a set pace. Very informative.

2) RPG Scribe: Coming in at $2.99 (last I checked) RPG Scribe can be very useful. You can input character stats, equipment, and pretty much everything else in a nice, easy to use app that allows you to keep track of everything. It automatically prompts you to level up when you type in enough experience! Mostly supporting core right now, but has options to input your own classes.

3) Live365 Radio: An awesome app that lets you tune in to radio stations that are hosted all over the world. How many radio stations? ... ... ... Let's just say you won't be lacking. The app itself is free, and there's the option to become a VIP member, which actually allows you to host a radio station on your own, doing whatever you want with it. Only problem is it seems to crash a bit, but well worth the free price tag.

4) Mixology Not sure if this is your cup of tea (or booze as the case may be) Olan, but Mixology is a great app for when you just don't know what you want to have to drink. It has hundreds of different mixed drinks, from standard to ridiculous, as well as a randomizer so that it picks a drink for you based on alcohol, mixer, and kind of drink. Another cheap as free app, brought to you by the app store.

5) Bard's Tale: For that retro feel, Bard's Tale (I think it was about 3 bucks when I bought it) brings a whole new storyline to the game, and new gameplay, but also contains the original Bard's Tale 1&2 stories, with promise of the third arriving. Very fun medieval gameplay and mischief.

6) ScoreMobile If you're in to sports, but can't make it to a place where you can watch the big game in time, you have the score right in the palm of your hand. Set alerts for when the game starts, goals (touchdowns, runs) scored, as well as other significant points in a game, for multiple different sports.

7) LogosQuiz This game comes with a personal disclaimer... It can be quite revealing and addicting. It's exactly what it says: you are shown a bunch of different logos, and you try to identify them. Very basic, but quite addicting.

And that's just a few that I use and adore.
