Returning to the throne of DM...

It has been less than one year since the peace talks between Haervath and Irvala have ended their decades-old conflict. A war of ideas, arms, and politics, finally brought to a close, and in their wake, a new nation formed from the two; Brandost. The former nations have elected themselves provinces within the now expanded borders, each maintaining regional rulership by their rightful leaders. In the northern Haervath, the Lanner Taryn an'Khayle and his brood reside in Bayrhone, and in the south, Queen Celeste Gowan and her royal family call the city of Mahlport their home.

Peace is not an easy thing to obtain, especially after so many years of opposition to one another. Tensions remain high, even though the two royal families have signed the Branfiir Pact, the treaty that would call an official close to the hostilities between the two nations in an effort to protect the people, the land, and their ways of life. Even with the signing of the Pact, tensions remain high between the two, and rumours drift from mouth to ear that that there are stirrings of those who believe that the unification is a show of weakness, that their own people should rise and take by force.

To cement the unification of Haervath and Irvala, a wedding between the royal families is to take place. Loghain an'Khayle of the north, and Allara Brandt of the south, creating the first king and queen of Brandost.

Expected to be the grandest wedding the continent has ever seen, invitation has been extended to the entirety of both provinces. To be held in the newly established capital of Parinos, the marriage of the north and south is expected to be the greatest event in the history of either nation, bringing in a new era of peace where for so long they had been deprived it. But the whispers of unrest have brought concern to many, for if words alone can shake the hope for peace that has for so long been no more than a dream, then action may be the beginnings of an avalanche...

Far from the best catch I've written, but you know what? I've been out of here for over a year now, so give me a break. Point is, I'm setting up to DM once more, and I'm looking for a complement of dedicated players. Going to keep it simple this time around... Four to six would be plenty, and as I've been inspired by a certain game I've recently joined in myself, the beloved second edition ruleset shall be used.

More information will crop up once some interest is shown. For now, both because its a touch late, and because I figure it better to wait and see if anybody bites on this before I take the time to pitch a bunch of stuff on here...

So, do we have anybody interested here?

Me likey

Sounds good. And having just acquired a spiffy limited-edition reprint set of the 2ED main books, I have the resources again-hehe. I'd be interested if you get enough bites to launch. I'd probably go for the big brawny fighter type.

That didn't take long...

I'm pretty impressed, honestly. Five shows already! We could do with one more (Man up, Grugg.) but for now, this should be enough to get started with some creation stuff.

So, to start us off, we'll be using level two characters. Makes things a little easier in managing my lack of DMing experience for some time, so we'll go with that.

The setting is my own world of Baelenoa, so that'll mean Baelenoan races and gods. Going to keep both fairly straightforward here; Since I have many different subtypes for the sentient peoples, I'm going to just put in the basics for each. Gods are going to be streamlined here. I'm currently rewriting the pantheon, but the skeleton of it is still the same, so when I put up a list of deities, it won't be as in-depth as it eventually will be when my revisions are completed. For now, this only affects Hammer, whom I've spoken to about this.

No kits or special classes; just the core book for now. Unless I decide to snag something from Combat and Tactics, the likes of which has a pretty awesome critical hit chart that I'm so fond of...

Attribute rolling shall be 4D6 and drop the low die. However, to avoid possible munchkinning, I have a system in effect for making things a touch more fair:

Only one attribute may be above 16.
Two attributes may be 16.
The remaining three would be reduced to 14.

So if a roll netted 18, 17, 15, 14, 13, 11, the end result would look like:

18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 11. Make sense?

Starting money will be determined soon.

Anyhow! Existing interest thus far is:

Salvator Navaar
Kaelyn
Hammer
Duncan74
Teller of Aryn

One I've had as a DM, and one I've gamed with before. The other three, this is what I like to see. I'll be looking forward to getting to know you guys better as this rolls out. For now, PM me any questions, and try to keep eyes on the Q/A thread for when I'm able to get my own thread up there to provide some world information and the like for you guys.

Sweetness

Reading through the Players Handbook I got is like going back in time. They reprinted it with all the original artwork, fonts, tables, charts, everything is just like the original books.

I got the PH, the DM Handbook and the Monster Manual as a wedding present from a friend that owns a comic shop. All are reprinted just like the original. Very cool stuff.

Just relating my nostalgic distraction as I read over the PH-hehe.

Heh...

Definitely understood and related to when I joined Teller's game. I tore into my old handbook and revelled in how RP-based 2e is by compare to the newer editions. Needless to say...I was pretty excited to be using it again
