Well I was told by Alacrity that this movie was a good one and he was not wrong. From the minute they started showing the monsters I was hooked and started remembering all my favorite childhood monster movies featuring Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Mecha-Godzilla and more. Boy I was glad I went to the restroom before the movie as I was stuck to my seat during the fight scenes.
The monsters called Kaiju (Japanese for Strange Creature) were awesome and the ‘Jaegers’ (German for Hunters) were very cool looking reminding me of Mech’s from the Battletech board game. One of the best fight scenes takes place in Hong Kong and a ’Jaeger’s’ use of a cargo ship is fracking off the wall. The TV trailer showing the Jaeger dragging it does not convey the half of it. Another good scene is where veteran pilot Raleigh Becket faces off with rookie pilot Mako Mori with Bo-Sticks.
Now as far as the actors I thought Charlie Hunnam (Raleigh), Rinko Kikuchi (Mako) and Idris Elba (Stacker Pentecost) all did a good job in the film. I was very happy with Hunnam's acting considering I had only known him as Jax Teller from the show Sons of Anarchy. Rinko was new to me as her only non-Japanese movie before this one was called Babel, which I have not seen. However her acting in that film was good enough it seems for which she was the first Japanese actress in 50 years to be nominated for an Academy Award.
Normally a blond she was very sexy and quite beautiful with her dark hair and purple bangs that she made me think of Alacrity’s Firefly game and Vanadia’s character of Willow. So yeah I recommend this movie if you’re a monster movie fan, a Sci-Fi fan, or a Battletech fan as it’s a pretty good flick.
Well as the norm feel free to post your thoughts on the film without spoilers...........

Thought I'd add a picture of Rinko Kikuchi from the movie along with this review.

I let her be on the ship
Yes I enjoyed the film as well. Good action, good special effects - solid popcorn film. It wasn't a thought engaging film in anyway but I wasn't expecting to be. Lots of it were borrowed from several Japanese sources, most strongly Evangelion.
