Dragon fighting

My Dad and I have just started a new 3.5 Campaign, and I'm already stymied.

I'm a lvl 10 Fighter (only player) with a number of followers.

After saving the Archduke's infant son from orcs I have been given a barony and the land that goes with it. (Frontier borderland)
My first day scouting the territory my troops run into a Young-Adult Green Dragon (CR 11). And my Dad has told me that getting rid of the dragon is part of the first challenge that I have to overcome.

So my question is: How can I defeat this dragon with the resources I have at hand?

(Mod Edit: Moved to Common Room. Also your name is hella awesome. -- Grugglington)

Depends

Hey! Welcome to the site!

To answer your question, it depends a bit on:

What followers do you have? What special skills/powers do they have?

And what's your feat/skill selection?

And do you have any magic items or other special powers?

What other resources do you have available?

Are there any other allies you might negotiate with that might help you over come the dragon?

Is there anything the dragon wants that you might be able to offer it in order to get it to shove off?

Those would be my questions to start with.

Thank you. I used to be a member here YEARS ago... and I thought I would stop back and see how things are

My followers are:

20 lvl 1 fighters (heavy infantry)
2 lvl 2 fighters (heavy infantry)
1 lvl 3 fighter (heavy infantry)
1 lvl 4 fighter (heavy infantry)

10 lvl 1 fighters (Longbowman)
1 lvl 2 fighter (Longbowman)
1 lvl 4 fighter (Longbowman)

10 lvl 1 fighters (light infantry)
1 lvl 2 fighter (light infantry)
1 lvl 3 fighter (light infantry)

8 lvl 1 rangers (light/scout cavalry)

1 lvl 1 cleric (St. Cuthbert)
1 lvl 1 wizard (evoker)
1 lvl 2 sorcerer (firecracker)
1 lvl 3 druid
1 lvl 8 cleric (Pelor)

There may be some elves in the area, but it is unconfirmed... and the dragon attacks anyone that comes anywhere close to it... no to mention that most of my guys just run away in terror. :/

Well...

I'd say only your 8th lvl Cleric is going to be much help (maybe) if you are planning on attacking the dragon. The others will likely run away in fear or be taken out rather quickly by it's breath weapon.

I'm not sure you'll find a lot of good help here without getting into all the details of what you know about the dragon, the campaign world, and the resources your character has available.

I have my doubts that your dad has set this to be a straight hack-and-slash encounter. Perhaps, but I doubt it.

From a game mechanics/ hack&slash point of view, you've got a large creature with awesome defense (AC 25+, SR, and DR/Magic), pretty amazing attacks (melee and breath), and its fearful presence. So, maybe, if you were prepped with some sort of immunity vs fear, immunity vs acid, and a magical weapon of some kind, you might stand a chance.

Otherwise, my guess would be there is some sort of next-step missions to acquire resources and experience to help you overcome the creature... like finding and recruiting allies, finding lost dragon-slaying relics, finding some secret weakness of the dragon or its lair.

Sorry to not be more helpful.
Welcome back to the Inn!

Both myself and my lvl 8 have magic weapons and armour, but aside from that, no special abilities beyond the basic class features.

And I don't really know about other resources... I've only just moved into the territory, and haven't even set up a permanent camp yet.
Though like you said this could be more a roll playing adventure, rather than a hack and slash.

Though I must admit I want to get my hands on the dragons hoard. I have a barony to set up and run and n o real monies to do so. (I have the landlord feat and because of that monies to build a keep/stronghold)
