Hi! Newbie here!
Hi! Just dropping a line to say hi & introduce m'self. I'm an AD&D 1st & 2nd (mostly 1st) edition player & DM, mostly. Just starting to learn to play Pathfinder (ugh), and am longing to play a Storyteller system game. (Old WoD) Yep, you guessed it, I'm an old fart, stuck in my ways, liking my old school games.
Been playing RPGs since I was 17, which means...*gasp*, 35 years!
I'm currently trying to write an original campaign setting for a homebrew version of a merging of 1st & 2nd editions of AD&D. Low magic (not THAT low, but certainly not high!), low fantasy (again, not TOO low) world that has some history to it. I'd like to make it so that almost any edition could use it, so that if I ever decide to run, say, a 5th edition game, I won't have to change much at all, if anything.
Currently working on my first pantheon (human); there will be at least 3 in the world, not including the non-human ones. Trying to concentrate on 2 neighboring kingdoms right now, so as not to be too scattered.
Also trying to write up a new class, which I only have the vaguest of ideas for: a shapeshifter class. Or maybe I'll make it a race?
So...that's all I can think of right now.
Blessings,
Kim/blackwood13

Hi Blackwood13
As one of the long, long, long, wait I did say long right, members of the Inn let me be the first to say hello and welcome to the Inn. I guess you can think of me as the Ambassador to the Inn as I've been called that at times. Though if you ask the webmaster, if I really was the Inn's ambassador, we would most likely be at war with rival gaming sites.
So welcome, look around, join a game, and most important keep a clean towel handy. Trust me you just may need it soon.

Welcome..........
Hello......... Thought I'd pop in here and add the Ody welcome.
A really good place to start here is "Pit F(r)iend's epic guide to getting started for newbies." That helps you figure out how to navigate the halls of the Inn.
To meet folk in real time pop into the DragonChat where I act as current resident bartender. We offer our very own "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh", the stale pale ale that is so light it has the foam on the bottom.
Just grab a mug off the mantel and draw a cold frosty one.
My assistant Igor is usually lurking around if I'm not there.
He never says anything, must have something to do with having his tongue cut out by his last boss, that nasty bartender over at the Orc Bar & Grill.
I'll have him put out a plate of "Lady Fingers" in your honor.
Reminds me we need to have another "Ladies Night" and restock.
Anyway the Posting Games are great place to get to know folks and of course the DragonChat is our favorite lounge.
So lurk or play, welcome to the Inn
Oh and here is nice soft fluff towel. Save it for later.

Shhhhhweeeeeet!!!
I love the taste of newbie-face in the morning!!!
Glad to have you with us, Kim! Sounds like you'll fit right in, here, what with your "old school" predilection and such... There's quite a few 2e adherents, hereabouts, donchaknow?
Looking very forward to seeing you here and there in our hallowed - if somewhat harried - halls. If there's anything that any of us can do for you, just give a shout. We're a friendly folk, for the most part, and, with little more than a post or a PM, you're likely to summon up more help than you might actually need.

Welcome
I want to echo the others and welcome you to the Inn. Have fun, join a game or six, just hit the chat when people are on, etc.
A few years back I posted asking for tips or assistance in creating a shapeshifting race as well, I think (and this is from foggy memory, so I could be remembering incorrectly) I was told the race would be too likely to step on the toes of Druids and could not be effectively balanced with what I had in mind. That said, if you manage to get a race worked out, I'd love to see what you come up with to keep the race (or class) balanced without stepping on any toes.

Thanks for the welcomes!
Thanks, everyone! I hope to see someone in chat soon; the few times I have been on here in the past few days, no one has been in chat. :-(
My balancing ideas, very quickly, for the shapeshifter is: 1) no spells; 2) if a class, a fighter subclass, and thus gaining forms like fighters get weapon profiencies; 3) if a race, VERY limited time spans for being in shifted forms (measured in rounds).
And actually, I don't see the 'showing-up' of druids at all. Druids have spells, and shapeshifting isn't the be-all and end-all of their class -- they're clerics! And don't forget that mages can polymorph and shapeshift with spells, and they're not upsetting the balance. But I'm also looking at this from a 1st edition homebrew PoV (with a little 2nd edition thrown in the mix), so it might be different from what you're working with. :-)
