Altered Carbon
Has anyone watched the netflix series Altered Carbon? I really enjoyed the series and was thinking it would make a good RPG setting. Picked up the first book as well which has a nice film noir style to it.

I haven't finished the series yet, but I have enjoyed it thus far. I have to agree it would make for a fun dystopian future setting for a sci-fi game. "Re-sleeving" makes for an easy way to deal with PC death, assuming their stack is intact, resulting in only needing to alter physical stats and abilities to match the new body.

Oh yeah!!!
I binged it pretty hard on my first viewing - I want to say I watched it in two or three days. The second time around, I took it slower and am, now, about halfway through, again! Such a great show and, most definitely, a fabtastic setting for an RPG.
I really need to grab a copy of the book(s).

Eclipse Phase
Apparently, there is already a RPG system that tackles a lot of the elements of Altered Carbon called Eclispe Phase by Posthuman Studios.
I thought the series was alright... in particular, I enjoyed the AI hotel and the girl who jumps into the syn-sleeve. That was a neat element to the story. A lot of gratuitous nudity/sex, in the same vain as Game of Thrones... it's meant to be gratiutious and obscene. The violence and expendability of life also.
I also find it interesting how almost no show on TV has any character that is really "good" or "heroic"... everyone is broken, everyone is compromised, everyone has issues.... and, while a number of the character are aware of their shortcomings, they simply embrace/accept their shortcomings with little to no effort of trying to change them. Cheering for anyone is compomising... Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Game of Throne, any of the super"hero" shows. It's an interesting movement in our cultural story-telling.

I thought it was fantastic
I binged the entire season in 3 days, I thought it was pretty well done! I actually loved the netflix series so much that I got the first book and read it in a few days haha.
I have a copy of the books online so if anyone really wants a copy, go ahead and send me a pm
The series actually made me try to learn shadowrun, not exactly the same setting but it could be homebrewed up.
Concerning the sex, I actually thought that it was better than game of thrones. Just because the sex actually served a plot device instead of sex being there for sex.

This show was great! I think a cyberpunk style game would be amazing. If anyone knows of the table top wargame Infinity, it's very similar in style and they have an RPG system too

Season 2
Just finished season 2, this morning. A bit of a different feel from the first season, I think. Somewhat darker and more somber, overall and, surprisingly a lot less nudity and swearing than S1. Still, a very entertaining run. Hoping there might be a third season but I have no idea as to where it might go.
P.S. Poe's arc in this season was rather heartbreaking.

Season 2!
I was going to binge it last weekend too, but stupid life interfered with my plans. Actually didn't much time for anything fun and slept really bad, so no relaxing for me. A lot needs to happen to stop me from unwinding.
I really really need one more day in a week; a day I can dedicate to watching shows and playing games. Both already have to-do lists longer than my life-expectancy and they're growing longer all the time.

Watched the first 3 episodes
But it never got my attention beyond that. Did I miss something?

Did you watch the first season? If not, then, yes, you're kind of jumping in in the middle and most of what happens in S2 wouldn't make much sense.
If you did watch the first season and gave up on S2 after three episodes, I can probably understand why. Second season was a bit slower paced and "moodier" than S1 and the plot beats were spread out a bit more.
Either way, Altered Carbon isn't everyone's cup of tea, I don't imagine.
