Hidden Corruption Q&A

This will be the Q&A thread for my D&D/Horror game, "The Corruption Hidden Beneath the Surface".

If you have any questions of rules, if you need clarification on a game situation or NPC, if you need to know something about your character that isn't private enough to warrant a PM to me - post here.  Please limit your in-game posts to actual actions and thoughts for your character.

Characters in this game:

Ch'dau - male kazari warrior.  Ch'dau is tall, muscular felanoid warrior.  Stands well over six feet tall, and is covered with shaggy, gray striped fur.  He carries two broad-bladed, curved swords.  He wears a breastplate, bracers, bandoliers.

Aranwen - male sylvari bladesinger.  Has blong black hair, green eyes, rather tan for a syl.  He wears finely tooled learther armor and carries a fairly ornate longsword.

Gib - male human cleric of Therassor.  Shoulder length wavy black hair, beard and moustaches, green eyes, muscular physique. Broken nose, pointed chin, tan (rough) skin.  Wears chain mail, carries a longword and shield, also carries a mace.

Midge - male cidal wizard (evoker).  Stands just over three feet tall, has dark hair.  Carries a staff sling and wears the navy blue robes of his order.

Kithran - female half sylvari rogue.  Tall, slender, but still muscular.  Long, straight black hair, dark eyes. Wears leather armor and carries a pair of daggers, has a short bow slung over her shoulder.  Wears dark clothing and a cloak.

Cedric - male human cleric of Solanis.  Short (5'6") and slender, has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a moustache.  Wears chain ail under his faded yellow robe and carries a staff.

Atharis - male human wizard (transmutr).  Average looks (player needs to specify hair, eye color).  Wears the dark blue robes of his order (same as Midge), carries a staff.

some housekeeping before we start

Reminder: you have all been together at least two or three months.  You may not know one another's deepest, darkest secrets, but you are familiar with basic personalities and such.  You've completed one adventure together, ridding a village of a reasonably organized band of bandits.

I have gone ahead and tossed out two intro posts to the game; you may all jump in and post now.

Please note that you should always post your character's thoughts and intentions, but never the results of actions unless I have already provided them to you via PM.

We should probably figure out party leadrship before this goes very far.  You can handle that however you want, but experience tells me that you need somebody in charge - even if everyone votes on actions - as disorganization kills parties.

One final admonition - this is a horror flavored game and I am an evil DM.  I will be very surprised if every character survives this adventure.  That is no fault of anyone here, it's just reality.

And speaking of death - we have three players who have never adventured in Audalis.  Please note that death is pretty final in this world.  This is not Greyhawk, where death is a worse than normal boo-boo, but you can always drag your friend to the corner healer for a resurrection before rigor sets in.  Resurrection is draining to the gods, and is reserved typically for true heroes.  Most who die, die.

Divine casting is funneling the miracles of your deity.  The typical person will view a divine healing as a legit miracle; raising from the deal is the stuff of legend.

Hit Points

How do you want to handle HP generation? Max at first or roll everything?

I will roll for you and provide this in your character sheet.  I don't hand out max HP, but I do tend to reroll generously... as you need the HP in my games.

This seems... familiar.... ;)

Nice intro! I'm currently on the phone with a collegue, prepping for a two week test cycle that begins on Monday. I'll do my best to get something of a post up for Ch'dau once I'm done trading notes. Also, I'm still working on the remainder of the big cat's bio/history but, for those of you who may be interested as to how you came into the company of the Kazari, I have in mind something along the lines of the following:

The last campaign Ch'dau saw with the Silver Wyverns had his unit facing of against the Sendrians. Due to the dark magics employed by the Sednrian forces, things did not go well for the Wyverns and Ch'dau found himself captured and imprisoned by the darklings. The rest of his troupe was luckier and managed to get themselves killed whereas Ch'dau was taken back to Sendria where he was to be experimented on and, quite possibly, used as part of their oogy blood magic. Being the "crazed monster" that he is, the Kazari managed to escape his captors and, soon thereafter, encountered one or more of you and has been in your company since. Details, of course, are negotiable and, if anyone would like to collaborate on some "behind the scenes" stuff as to how your character met Ch'dau and/or the relationship between them, feel free to shoot me a PM or something and I'll happily discuss and such.

*ear twitch*

How is it you humans say... third time's a charm?

Also, whilst I'm thinking about it, a quick thought or two on our party's marching order:

  1. As we appear to be without a ranger, I'm assuming that we'll have one of the fighters and our rogue on point. I'm completely flexible as to whether that fighter is Ch'dau or Aranwen. I can see the big cat wanting to be up front and, thus, first into the frey, but as I don't see him as actually leading the party, he won't bluster (too much) if he's relegated to rear guard while on the march.
  2. Our casters/clerics, of course, should likely be kept in the middle of the column so that the warrior types can provide a buffer between them and who/whatever we might encounter... precise order is up to you all, of course.
  3. It may not truly matter what order we march in as I'm fairly certain Olan is going to KILL US ALL!!!

Aaaaaaaaanyhooo... unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to start my post assuming that Ch'dau is, in fact, in the rear guard position.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the drizzly, mucky world we've just gotten dumped into.

Kepe in mind that as a cleric of Therassor, Gib is a competant warrior, too.  He's not going to match the brute strength of Ch'dau or the skill and finese of Aranwen, but he will hold his own in any battle; his base THAC0 is only one point lower that you guys.  Of course, Ch'dau gets bonuses to hit for specialization and strength, and Aranwen gets them due to racial bonus, specialization, and silly skill level... but Gib is no pushover.

Cedric is a human Cleric of Solanis. You see a short man dressed in a frumpy faded yellow robe with a big smile on his face.

"Well met friends."

He is happy to walk near the wizard in the midde of the party.

"It keeps me near both front and back to enable me to support our stronger members. May the Radiant Father bless our venture."

Yummy...

...a snack sized cleric and a bit sized mage, right in the midst of it all! Who needs rations?

"Well met, Cedric." *licks chops*

Sheets are done for Ch'dau and Aranwen, save a couple of minor items here and there.

Lead

I'd be glad to have Aranwen in the lead

Arancon

My character is a fairly tall (5'11") Sylvari with a slim build, tanned skin, long black hair and piercing green eyes.

He is modestly dressed in clothes that are suited to the forest. Brown leather breeches, a white linen shirt, and a green tunic are covered under a worn grey cloak. A meticulously maintained longsword and scabard hang at his belt.

Your Rogue

I would put Kith behind the "fighter" types, perhaps on the side of party so it's easy for her to slip around and flank. Kith is a dual-dagger wielder, so she'll be better in strategic combat rather than rush-and-charge. She's also fairly tall (5'10") but relatively slender and dressed to blend into shadows; eyes and hair are black. I may actually have some art soon if we want to really visualize.

I put her bio in the recruitment thread if you want to give it a peek. If anyone wants to collab on a specific meeting/relationship/what-have-you, feel free to shoot me a PM! Otherwise I'm going to assume she is quietley friendly but reserved

I am planning to post sometime this evening

So, here is what I'm looking at, in terms of marching order

Aranwen
Gib
Kith
Cedric
Midge
Ch'dau

If I'm wrong (flip flop the second cleric and the mage?), say so.
