Captain’s log, Stardate 2364.10.23

We’ve lost contact with the Silent Pluto station. Starfleet has ordered that the USS Hexatris remain at our current location for now, where we await reconfiguration of our vessel and new crewmembers before beginning our mission to investigate the cause.

It is concerning that there is literally nothing to use to formulate any manner of hypothesis. Subspace communications went dark, with no communications received or answered, even scheduled ones. I’ve relayed to the crew the importance of not spreading rumours at this time, but the atmosphere is tense. We’ve been on our previous assignment for some time now, assisting the Silent Pluto station with scheduled supply runs and research, as well as patrol of the nearby section of the Neutral Zone border. We all have friends and colleagues at that station.

Silent Pluto is not the only station reported to have contact loss, either. Multiple stations and listening posts near the edge of the galaxy that also border the Neutral Zone are no longer in contact, with not even a distress signal received. Other patrols report increased Romulan activity nearby as well...

I just hope we can get to the bottom of this before misunderstandings cloud the judgement of either of our organizations.

Yes, the rumours (by which I mean the email) was true. I am putting together a Star Trek game, and I believe I've put together enough notes to be able to start proper.

Characters will be joining or a part of the crew of the USS Hexatris, a steamrunner class vessel whose original assignment prior to the start of this game are as follows:

• Escort of supplies and personnel to and from the Silent Pluto station
• Assistence in acquisition and containment of mineral samples studied at the Silent Pluto station
• General patrol given the proximity of the Neutral Zone border

This has changed quite suddenly with communcations going dark between Starbase 39-Sierra to Silent Pluto, and other Starbases confirm communication loss with other outposts near the edge of the galaxy, prompting Starfleet to take immediate action and order investigation into the cause. The USS Hexatris, already having familiarity with the region, is a natural choice as one of these scouts.

Characters will be serving under Commander Leiran, a captain with a background as a science officer. Characters will either have been part of the crew for some time, or newcomers being reassigned due to the urgency of the situation. Newcomers will generally be tactical and security personnel, but that is not a strict limitation.

Dr Greyson heard the briefing concerning the los of contact with the Pluto Station.  Headquarters had altered their assignement and the crew was to make way to determine the origion of the contact loss.  This was not a normal mission for the ship or crew.  It was not equiped with a combat mix of crew members and provisions would be short for any type of extended mission.  Returning to sick bay, Doc took stock of the medical supplies.  He had more than adequate supplies for an escort mission where the crew would be plagued with the normal flus, minor injuries and one or two serious injuries.  But, if they ran into any type of combat engagement the supplies would be exhuasted quickly.  "Alright everyone lets gather by bed three.  You may have heard rumors but I am letting you know our mission has changed.  Fleet is sending us to investigate loss of contact with Pluto station.  It could be a simple case of equipment failure of the commo gear.  Or, it could be something much worse.  Either way our jobs remain the same, keep the crew healthy and fit for duty.  I want a complete rundown of trauma supplies and shortages.  Lets set up bed one as a trauma bed and keep it empty.  I know some of you are veterans and I expect you to pass on your knowledge to our new medics.  Those of you who are new, I am confient you have all the skills necessary to excel.  That's it, get to work.  I am headed up to the bridge to see if there is any new information."

I'm already serving aboard the Peregrine, otherwise I'd certanly take a run at this one, myself! That's not to say our paths won't cross as the RDI Fleet grows, though.

Reralae is one of the best players and writers on this site.  I have no doubt that this game will be a roaring success.

I'm running three games right now, myself (including another Trek game), but I would be interested in taking a junior officer or enlisted role, just to do a little behind the scenes type helping.

I didn't even think about that! I could totally see my way clear to put on a junior officer or background character for the sake of RP, here! I'll wait until the dept heads and such fill up, though, and go from there where deciding on a character is concerned.

Work's been keeping me busy, but let me try to get back to everyone so far.

So you need, for sure, at least one major science type (ideally two, if I'm reading your post right), a chief tactical officer is pencilneck doesn't want that, a helmlsman (chief flight control), and a chief ops officer. 

I mean, you can NPC some, but if you had your druthers, that's where you'd be.  Yes?

Multiple science officers would be preferred, but not strictly necessary. At least one though.

Tactical Officer as well as Helmsman will both be very important.

As far as the easiest to fill as an NPC goes, I'm feeling that'd probably be ops.

Yep.  Ops is a great role (Data from TNG was the Ops officer), but it's also easy to NPC.  "Captain, sensors indicate X.  Captain, we are being hailed..."

While I don't have time to run another game, I can certainly post as a player. I can take TAC if you'll have me. Or, I can take OPS and suggest Giddy as a potential player for TAC... or vice versa.
