I just recently got into Battletech--actually, I started playing Battletech today and am having a reeeeal difficult time trying to stop. My SO has been playing stompy robot games since he was a kid, and I always thought they looked fun, but I just didn't truly, deeply understand.

But now, everything has changed.

Anyone else into that stompy robot/mech life? Anyone else into Battletech? They just released an updated version of their tabletop game, and I'm pretty excited to dig into that now as well.

Dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka!

I love me some stompy robots!

My experience has been more with the MechWarrior series of video games as opposed to actual table-top Battletech, but, yeah... Great fun, interesting universe, and, of course, STOMPY ROBOTS!!!!

Online sites

https://mwomercs.com/
http://battletechgame.com/

As a long time table top, computer game, and online player who has read every battletech noval written in paperback or kindle and somewhat of an online guru of Battletech above are two of the best known sites to start off. Though Mechwarrior Online is somewhat more expensive it is a good Battletech platform Multi-player-game.

The second link is cheaper and is a good platform for Battletech as a starter game. There a few DLC's for it with more on the way. There is also a free upgrade called Roguetech and I've placed the link below.. Be warned Roguetech makes the vanilla game damn hard in the beginning stages but oh so much fun

DAKKA

Eol - I've been playing the newer PC version of Battletech, which I guess has been worked on by many of the MechWarrior people, or is the MechWarrior people . . . ? Not sure, as I tend to get lost when my SO starts talking about the clustermuck history of development with both franchises. That aside, definitely check out Battletech if you can! My SO has been a lifelong Stompy Robots guy, and still plays MWO with friends when they can find a game, and hiiiiiighly recommends it!

Tann-Thank you! I have a lot of research to do since I'm new to this world. My SO sent me the Sarna.net link to the Battletech wiki which has helped me a little as a beginner trying to figure out which guns and mechs and skill work best together, but I have a long way to go.

ALSO, I came home the other day and my SO (sorry I keep referencing him, but he's got all the cool stuff!) had this big Steel Battalion setup, with this like, huge control/throttle panel thing with pedals taking up the front room. Man, I really missed out in my childhood.

LOL

Ah yes! The whole joystick/throttle/peddle set up!

I think it was MechWarrior 3 that inspired me to build a "dedicated system" for the game(s)... and by dedicated system, I mean building a cockpit in the garage in which the PCs, monitors, and control systems were housed. It was ridiculous! Lasted a couple of years until I decided that I'd really much rather park in my garage than have half of it taken over with a massive cockpit based on a Cougar Mech.

Mmmmhmmm

Ooooh yeah, my dude hasn't gone THAT far yet, but his HOTAS setup in our game room gets a bit intimidating. He uses that more for games like Elite Dangerous (which I fail so hard at) and Ace Combat 7 (just released and looks cray cray), but it's all pretty awesome.

For me, I've been inspired to finally go out and begin buying parts here and there to build a computer *sweats*. I never have and I'm quite poor haha but I think if I spend a few chunks here and there I can get something that "works" up and running eventually! I was given some resources and am exciting to delve in.

I'm going off the rails, I'm just a bit excited about all of these new things. STOMPY ROBOTS AND COMPOOTERRRSZZ

Yep comps are cool

Just last Nov I spent $1.600 dollars to upgrade mine to all the latest gear. A  ASUS - ROG Maximus X Hero Intel Motherboard with RGB Lighting,  a corsair - Hydro Series 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler, an Intel i8 8700 processor, 4 DDR4 memory sticks giving me 32gb's of memory, a nvidia- GeForce gtx 1070 8GB gddr5 Graphics Card and finally a Samsung - 850 EVO 1TB Internal SATA III Solid State Drive. ~sigh~ I think I've fallen in love with a machine.

I was the Khan for a couple of years of Wolf Clan back when Mechwarrior 3 was a big deal. Loved the genre. Now I don't play video games anymore and I've never been any good at those tabletop strategy games that require me to dump loads of money into figs in order to compete.

I'm glad you're enjoying it!
