I've just recently got interested in D&D and want to start playing, though finding a group to join has been a nightmare. If there is anyone out there that doesn't mind helping a new player learn how to play, it would be greatly appreaciated if you could let me know.

I recommend you sending a PM to TannTales. He has just restarted his RPG, The Trilogy War and he is a veteran DM who has been DMing for well over 15 years. He is also very welcoming and helpful to newcomers. I myself am a newcomer to D&D and he has been great at showing me the ropes.
However, I'm not sure if he is accepting anymore players to his game so as I said, PM him and explain your situation to him.

As for Tann, his game is more old school and 2.0 rules not 5.0, but it is still D&D roll playing.
