Referrant #1

Who is #1? Somepne who can help me with facts and dates?

P.S. is there still special Ops in MArines? or their equivalent is so what is it called now. I had that aspect as part of her servie record. She traded that in for this "special" assignment

Please, please, please

Don't forget to include your time stamp as well as update the log book. It will make things go so much smoother.

yup

Timestamps are CRITICAL. When you get eight or ten people playing, and they are running at diofferent times of day, in differnet parts fo the ship, timestamps cannot be optional.

I'm happy to help with the logbook, but you gotta do your own timestamps on the posts!

Most likely

There would most likely be a security pad next to the door. The pad could also be configured to recognize you bio signs, communicator signal, or voice command. At least I recall seeing doors opened in the series using any number of those options.

agreed

The first time, you might have to authorize with it, but from then on, it should simply recognize you.

Stuff, stuff, and mo' stuff...

Brianna - what kind of extra info did you need? I recall e-mailing the Dominion War stuff out and have referenced the Memory Alpha website as being a great resource for timeline/location info encompassing all of the Trek Universe. If you're looking for specific events in Top McQueen's lifetime, most recently and prior to the onset of the Dominion War, there was the 2nd Federation-Klingon War (technically a precursor/catalyst) to the Dominion War... before that there was a Borg incursion or two that your Marines might have had some experiences in, etc... Prior to that (in MSgt McQueen's lifetime, anyway) there have been very few 'major conflicts' in Federation space that would be considered too awful 'far-reaching' - I guess, in other words, feel free to 'create' some history or events that your character might have been involved in (if it's too far fetched or woudln't match up with the universe 'as is' somebody will surely catch it and help make any adjustments)... As far as the Marines are concerned, though, the key thing to remember is that, up until just a few years back, the Federation has been relatively peaceful and 'war' hasn't been much of a factor (training, small tactical deployments, posts aboard starships, etc, are all possibilities).

Now, as far as Special Forces in the Marines goes - 'modern day' Marine Corps 'special forces' would be Force Recon and, IMO, it's likely that the Recon teams would have been a carry over into SF Marines - in fact, my original concept of the jarheads aboard Cerberus was that they likely were a Recon (or, specialized, if you prefer) platoon as opposed to your "average, run of the mill, every day, infantry platoon" (don't know that someone would've given up an 'elite post' to attach to a bunch of phaser-eatin' ground-pounders, you know, and, given the destination and scope of our mission, it's doubtful that a 'standard' infantry platoon would've been tapped for it...

SECURITY DEPARTMENT
This multi-room department is located in a restricted area on deck 7. Within it are the entrances to the phaser range, the Brig, the torpedo/probe magazine, the auxiliary weapon control room and to the Ship's Armory, as well as the Chief Tactical Officer's office.
The CTO's office is decorated to the officer's preference. It contains a work area, a personal viewscreen, a computer display, a replicator, and a washroom/head. It is located next to the brig.
Brig: Located on deck 7, the brig is a restricted access area whose only entrance is from within the Security department. The Steamrunner class vessel has 4 double occupancy cells, which contain beds, a retractable table and chairs, a water dispenser, and a toilet. The cells are secured with a level-10 forcefield emitter built into each doorway.
Internal Forcefields: Controlled from the bridge or from the Security office on deck 7, forcefields can be activated throughout the ship, effectively sealing off sections of the hallway from the remainder of the vessel.
Internal Sensors: Used to monitor the internal security of the ship. They can identify the location of specific crewmembers who are wearing their commbadge. They can be used to determine the general location of any person on board the ship, based on the entry of specific variables by the Tactical officer.
Phaser Range: The phaser range is located on deck 7. The phaser range is heavily shielded and the walls are armored. It is designed for low level phaser fire, but can withstand short phaser blasts at setting 16 without a problem.
The phaser range is used by security to train ship's personnel in marksmanship. During training, the holo-emitters in the phaser range are activated, creating a holographic setting, similar to what a holodeck does. Personnel are "turned loose" either independently or in an Away Team formation to explore the setting presented to them, and the security officer in charge will take notes on the performance of each person as they take cover, return fire, protect each other, and perform a variety of different scenarios. All personnel on Starfleet vessels are tested every six months in phaser marksmanship.
There are 25 levels of phaser marksmanship. All personnel are trained in the operation of phaser types I and II up to level 14. All security personnel must maintain a level 17 marksmanship for all phaser types. The true marksman can maintain at least an 80% hit ratio on level 23.
Ship's Armory: This room is located in a restricted area on deck 7 and is under constant guard. The room is sealed with a level-10 forcefield and can only be accessed by personnel with Alpha 3 security clearance. Inside the armory is a work area for maintenance and repair of phasers as well as multiple sealed weapon lockers. The armory carries enough type-I and type-II phasers to arm the entire crew. Type-III phaser rifle and the new compression phaser rifles are available as well, but only in enough numbers to arm approximately 1/3 of the crew. Heavy ordinance is available in limited numbers.
Torpedo/Probe Magazine: This restricted area is for storing unarmed photon torpedoes, quantum torpedoes (if the mission dictates), and science probes type I - VI and type IX (types VII and VIII are available if the mission dictates). Also stored here are the components for manufacturing new photon torpedoes, as well as the equipment to put it all together. This room is also accessed by the loading mechanism for the torpedo launchers.

Hmm...

I doubt you'd have the SEC double up as Chief of Operations, simply because COPS is a pretty big role. You end up being in charge of all those things that everyone forgets about such as transporters, sounding alerts, coordinating things between departments etc. Plus your PC is unlikely to have the skills to do it unless he's been in Ops in his service history or had some experience in it back at the Academy.

I suppose if there's no PC filling the role it would just be an NPC ensign or junior lieutenant.

nope...

guess not... while he's got technical training...and TAC experience.. OPS isn't his forte... guess I'll give Ops a open character interaction..

'Valberg didn't catch the name of the figure hunched over the console' etc. or something...

But I'd still like Olan / eol's thoughts on the SECdetail... while I Kaelyn may not have Experience as SEC, Karl does so his SEX detail would be top notch.

Apologies...

...for the "long silence" folks. Last week was a killer and the "aftermath" of all the difficulties consumed my weekend, as well.

Hoping to get back up to speed, here, today and get the ball rolling again... as far as our Ops Chief goes: no one has laid claim to the role yet, of course, and, if none of our current players wants to "cross-train" and assume the role, we can whip up an NPC. There is a Lt Duarte NPC whom I've assigned to Ops (he greeted the MACO squad earlier) feel free to use him as an OPS POC for the time being if necessary.

ops...

I also stubbed in an entry for Lt (jg) Dixon in Ops... feel free to user her, if you like.

Skimming the roster, looks great (way more detail than we'll probably ever use... just the way I like it!), Kaelyn. When I get a chance to dive further, I'll let ya know if I see anything else.
