An Experience

Elessarae took in the entire ambiance of the Tower, and its vagarities. It was a puzzle in itself. Needless to say a Master Druid would create such an abode.

Elesarre knew she was climing stairs but the next level it seemed that she reversed her track and instead of going upwards it felt like they had descended into the earth.

Next Elessar entered a tunnel that lead up first, but bendt even into a horizontal walkway, barely high enough to stand in. The walls were made of rock and dirt, roots hung overhead, and the smell of earth was everywhere.
The darkness of the tunnel led into a room where a single lantern illuminated a desk. The atmosphere was that of a badger’s burrow. In a corner a hunched figure was digging at the earth, but when they entered he turned. It was a Khord, covered in dirt.

Elessarae paused a raised an eyebrow. That was when Telliri passed her nodding to the Khord. Elessarae wondered why he had not lead her to the steps, if he were going to meet the Druid himself.

Telliri moved through the room into the next tunnel and started climbing a rock wall. Elessar followed him, but she paused to look at the colt, who could not climb such a rock wall.

The next room was bright white, and carried several large windows. In the middle stood a pedestal, where an old elf was caring a flower covered plant.

“Welcome Telliri, good to see you again. Any changes? Oh, you brought company! Welcome, youngling. I am Urvanial Westwind, druid of Sillarion.”

Elessarae bowed her head deeply in respect for the Grand Druid. "I am Elessarae Isiliri of Meg Nost, The Captian brought me because I encountered 3 of the Twisted Ones and killed one of them, A demonic owl."

She quickly tells her story, as she told it to the Captian, ending with the departure of the Moonhorse mare and the colt following her.

"Although I am concerned with the appearence of the Twisted Ones, I am already set a quest by the Bladesingers, which is now complicated by the Moonhorse colt left in my care."

Argh

Draven stood near the rear of the group, massaging his gloved right hand, when they encountered the old man. He had been silent until this point.

“Hello there! Care for some company? I’ve been walking all day and hadn’t had anything to eat for hours. I’d appreciate some of that dry meat of yours.”

The old man began to make his way towards the group.

As if the tension that had been building within him for so long had finally snapped, the group was alerted to Draven's actions by the audible unsheathing of his massive, dai-katana. His eyes burned like a wraiths, and the golden orbs locked onto the old man in a horribly haunting gaze.

"Keep an eye on the coger."

The light of the moon danced off the ebony surface of his blade, as he strolled away from the group, and into the brush to the left.

welcome the newcomer

He had seemed distracted all day, since they had left the Khordaldrum kingdom and him cursing at the sun. Draven had never really seemed to like the thing with it not befitting his dark and moody character. Alyssia was thinking of some new contraption to get through to the man that never seemed to let anyone in beneath the armor that he wore around his soul. It never seemed to amaze her at how he eluded her every maneuver in this constant game of strategy between them. With her sandaled feet padding along on the ground, she had kept her eye on him all day.

So focused was she on her own thoughts as she sat at the campfire that evening that she was surprised to hear a singing voice coming from down the road, not all too unpleasant either she would add. Her eyes caught sight of an outline of a figure who was dressed all in black. A curious obsession it was with men, wanting to always dress in the oppressing color. Something was draped around his shoulders, but she could not yet make out what it was. Alyssia just decided to leave it be for the moment. His walk however, spoke some measure about him, supporting himself with a staff and striding in a limp

“Hello there! Care for some company? I’ve been walking all day and hadn’t had anything to eat for hours. I’d appreciate some of that dry meat of yours.” the man spoke as he came closer.

Alyssia was about to speak before she heard the sound of a blade being released from its scabbard. Draven now stood with his blade that sucked in every ounce of light from the air in hand and his eyes glowing that otherworldly glow that they seemed to do. An interesting aspect, she would have to ask him about that. Pulling her thoughts back to hand, she met the look on Draven’s face with one of her own.

“Keep an eye on the coger,” were his words before he charged off into the darkness with his massive blade in hand.

She could only holler out as she was much slower in getting to her feet, “There is no need for that!”

Turning back to the man that was now at the edge of their campfire, she took a better look at him in order to get a judge of character. Something went off in her mind and told her that not all was in its proper place here. Alyssia wondered at what it might just be as she gazed up and down the old man that had seemedly come from nowhere. How could he have made it this far on an injury like what he had; maybe it was from an old wound that never healed properly. Although the nagging did not ease up in her mind, there was no proof that it came from this individual. Concern won out over the worry, although her caution was still tempered.

Alyssia closed her eyes and began to say a few brief words to herself in a prayer of protection from her goddess (mage armor). With the ending of her words, Alyssia approached the old man with open hands, her staff back where she had been sitting. It was a motion of friendship in the village where she heralded from, saying that one did not mean harm to the other.

“Welcome to our fire. You may have my share of the meal. And if you did not mind, I would like to take a look at you leg; there may just be something I could do for you,” the words flowed from her voice with sincerity etched deeply into them.

(OOC: Hopefully mage armor will be enough if something does go wrong.)

Spotted

Within the shadows of a large tree and behind the cover of a bush, the little cidal watched with wide-eyed wonder the ants hard at work. Amazing! he thought to himself.

As Tobin watched he took note of the ants patterns of behavior, a skill honed from watching a good deal of animals in his life. The organization and diligence at which these creatures worked reminded him of the khords in their underground caverns.

He took note of the fact that there seemed to be some form of hierarchy amongst the ants or, at least, a class separation. Those ants wearing the clothes seemed to be the warriors, while those without were the labourors of the community. While little verbal communication seemed to pass between the ants, each seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing.

The large pile also stirred up the cidal's imagination... I wonder hope deep they home goes into the earth? I wonder if they make tunnels like the khords? I wonder what they're doing with all that wood? I wonder how many of them live in there?
Suddenly a movement on the pile of sand caught Tobin’s eye. An ant that looked slightly bigger than the others came running down the pile and stopped right above the opening. It looked straight at one of the clothed ants, and it responded with a nod, even though they weren’t looking at each other. Then it ran straight at Tobin.

The cidal quickly assessed his surounding environment, taking note of nearby cover and a exit route. Tobin did not draw his weapons though. Instead, he focused on creating a non-theating environment: He had his hands out in front, and large smile on his face, and take two steps back.

"Hey there, friend," Tobin smiled. "Not looking to cause any trouble... just watching you all hard at work."

[OOC: Tobin will take a total defense move (tumbling out of the way if necessary), while trying both his Animal Emotion abilities, or his diplomacy skills, on the large ant.]

.

Loda had been walking all day with her fellow companions, and had been glad when they made camp for the night. She pulled out her water flask, and looked at it, wishing it was something more satisying, like ale. She had drank her last drop of it earlier while walking. It does get kinda hot under that sun ya know. So she poured out some water in a little dish for Gothard, and split her rations with him, and they sat there, eating and enjoying the sparking fire through the blackness of the night. But soon, their quiet sanctuary was dissrupted by an old man, all dressed in black, hobbing down the path they had just frequented only hours ago.

" Hello there! Care for some company? I’ve been walking all day and hadn’t had anything to eat for hours. I’d appreciate some of that dry meat of yours.”

Loda cocked one eye as she spotted the very thick blanket draping across his shoulder.

How could someone with a limp carry something like that for hours on end? This guy's messed up, I wonder whats going on here...

Soon after that little thought crossed her mind, Draven stood, unsheathed his sword.

"Keep an eye on the coger."

After that he ran off into the bush next to us, obviously thinking something horrendous was about to happen. Loda rolled her eyes at the over reacting that Draven was doing, most likley upsetting out guests slightly, making it even more likely that something bad was going to happen.

Then a slight movement to her left caught her eye. It was Alyssia praying, and then getting up to greet the newcomer.

"Welcome to our fire. You may have my share of the meal. And if you did not mind, I would like to take a look at you leg; there may just be something I could do for you."

She was welcoming the old man to the circle, and giving him a portion of her meal.

Loda just sat there, sipping away at her water and breaking off peices of her meal as she ate them, watching this. But she also dragged her war axe closer to her right side, out of view of the old man, but within reach just incase anything did really happen.

lots of action coming up for you!

Kharolis Mountains
East base of the mountains
24th day of the 7th month: Pfier
9:14 pm

The old man smiled at Alyssia, and accepted her gesture of welcome. He seemed to relax as they walked up to the fire together. With a stiff leg he put himself down on a log near the flames. His eyes went over each of them; the girl in rags, the dark toned Syl, the Khordaldrum wizard and cleric, the druid and her groggy wolf companion. He even looked into the bushes where Draven had just disappeared. His gaze returned to Loda though, and he smiled at her.

“There’s no need to hug your axe, my dear Khord. I am as harmless as they get. And as hungry too!”

He happily accepted Alyssia’s share of the meal, but was cautious not to eat more than half of it. The rest he returned to her. He nodded at her request to inspect his leg, and as she moved to strip his pants up, he folded his arms over his chest and pulled the blanket tighter around his shoulders. He seemed to be almost shivering.

************

Draven didn’t trust the old man for a bit. He had heard a noise coming from the bushes on the left, and had not hesitated a single moment. Behind him, the light of the fire was diffused by the bushes. Whatever glow penetrated the leaves was absorbed by his katana. He was a shadow within shadows now, and looking for signs of intruders.

He got his sign, but it came too late. From his right side, two fiery eyes suddenly rushed in, and a hunched figure jumped him. It was too late for evading the attack and he saw a maw with hot glowing teeth come in and close on his arm. The pain was incredible. The creature let go and hopped to the side. In the glow of its panting he could see that it was a big dog-like thing with a rusty red fur. A hound, as if it was sent from hell itself.

************

Alyssia stripped the old man’s pants up. His leg was in good condition for such an old being. The hairs on his leg were dark, and as she rolled further, she found nothing like a scar or a bruise or anything of the sorts. As she looked up to inquire what was ailing the man he suddenly threw off his blanket and held a sickle and a rapier in his hands. The rapier immediately came down again, aimed at Alyssia’s back.
The blade slashed across her spine and would have surely paralyzed her if a thin layer of magic hadn’t protected her. Now, the only thing she felt was betrayal of her trust.

(OOC: we’re in combat now, so please post your intentions for the first round, and I’ll paste them all together according to initiative. Remember that none of you, except Loda, is holding their weapons.)

Londelirinen Kingdom
Aerie of the High King
Urvanial’s tower
26th day of the 7th month: Pfier
1:23 pm

Urvanial listened to Elessarae’s story with great interest. He narrowed his eyes as she described the foul gibberish of the owl, taking in every little bit of information. When she was done he was silent for a while. He peered at the plant on the stone pedestal in front of him.

“You bring quite a remarkable story, Elessarae of Meg Nost. Although we have seen and fought these twisted animals before, we have never heard of them speaking or possessing any special vocal powers. I should go into the woods and investigate this phenomenon.”

He took the plant from the pedestal and placed it on one of the window sills.
“Do you realize how blessed you are that a mother deems you worthy to take care of her own child? She must have seen something very strong in your being in order to make that decision. Kith Jora must’ve smiled at that very moment.
Take him with you on your quest, is my advice to you, even though you haven’t asked for my opinion. It will be his journey to become a full grown male, and he might prove to be a good companion, if not a powerful one.”

He turned to her, resting one hand on the window.

“Of course this is none of my business, and I trust you are capable of making your own choices. You’re a bladesinger, by all means. I should listen to you instead! Please, show me the owl you brought.”

After they revealed the creature to Urvanial, he placed it on the pedestal and took a couple of tools from a pouch on his belt. With two thin metal rods he pried open the beak of the creature and looked into its throat. He stuck his finger deep inside the beak and moved it around until he raised his brow.

“This thing’s vocal cords are very different from your average owl. They feel bulged and still feverishly hot. I wonder….”

At that very moment a loud noise reached their ears from outside the tower. It sounded exactly like the strange gibberish Elessar had heard earlier that day. Only this time it came from several directions, and it was coming closer fast.

"Hey there, friend," Tobin smiled. "Not looking to cause any trouble... just watching you all hard at work."

If the ant heard Tobin, it did nothing to stop him. It seemed more like the thing wasn’t thinking at all, and just following orders. It continued its run and dove right on top of the little Cidal.
But Tobin had been in this situation before, and he dove to the side with elegant suppleness. The ant turned quickly and came at the rogue once more. From behind him Tobin could hear another set of legs rushing his way. He tried to dodge aside in time, and succeeded by a hair.
If he wanted to run, this was the best moment. But then, all of a sudden, he felt like a hand had grabbed his brain and squeezed. As the pain suddenly went away he felt one with a larger force, a soft womb of intelligence that soothed his thinking and comforted him into numbness. Through a haze he saw the two large ant soldiers come closer, but didn’t perceive them as being threatening any longer.

When he regained his own state of mind again he was standing in a small chamber made of hard sand. There was only one way out of this room, and it had been barred with a fence made of wood and metal. Around Tobin lay several dead animals and even the fresh corpse of a young human male.
Outside his prison was a large walkway around a big hole. Connecting to the walkway were numerous tunnels going up and down. An endless stream of chaotic ants ran in and out of tunnels or over the edge of the big hole, and up the walls towards the next level. In front of his cell stood two of the warrior type ants. They were looking at Tobin with tight gazes that didn’t blink, and didn’t betray any kind of emotion.

Well well

The beast came from the shadows, and as it's jaws closed over Draven's forarm, he cursed through gritted teeth. The pain was not the cause however. It shot up his arm in waves of what were to him, near extacy. He shuddered. But how could he have been lead astray? Cursing himself, he lept back from the monster and gripped his blade.

Lower his head, he allowed his own eyes to flash of their own demonic accord. The monster was crouched, ready to pounce. It's teeth were bared. An acrid stench filled Draven's nostrils. How familiar it was.

"You should be thankful, mutt. You have no soul."

Without hesitation, Draven Ire'Dante lunged into battle.

>.<

Loda gritted her teeth and grabbed her axe, lunging from her seat, slashing at the man who betrayed their trust that they had given him.

" Gothard! Kill this man! rip his throat out!"

She was madder than all the hells itself. She wielded her axe in two hands, trying to bring the axe down into his chest. It wasnt the fact that he betrayed their trust, it was mainly that he dare attack the most innocent person in their group, Alyssia. A person who was willing to give up their own personal time and assistance to mend some wounds, and she was caught off guard. She was relieved though that her magical armour had saves her. Now the bastard will die for his betrayal. She smiled when Gothard lunged in next to her, both battling with the great ferocity of nature. Now one of the long held rules of nature will be practiced. Never fight alone.

( I'll try an hold the weapon in two hands, getting the 1 1/2 strength bonus. Also sry for the lame one liners lol.)

Checking out my new place...

Owww!
As the pain suddenly went away he felt one with a larger force, a soft womb of intelligence that soothed his thinking and comforted him into numbness. Whoa! Hmmm… That feels better.
Through the haze in his mind, he saw the two large ants approach and thought, Hello, friends.

Tobin gave his head a shake, “Wow! That was an interesting trip.” Looking around him, he thought, Hmmm… this doesn’t look good… I wonder how I got here…
The little cidal checked his equipment over. Seems like they were away my food… At least they left me with my bow and rapier… hmmm… I wonder how this poor lad ended up here?
Tobin checked the young man for vitals to ensure he really was dead… he was. “Not a good sign, little hero… not a good sign…” he thought aloud as he checked the lad for anything of interest.

[OOC: Tobin will search the young man - Take 20]

After searching the corpse, Tobin continued his search by looking over his “room” for anything else of interest, occasionally looking over at the ants keeping watch over him.

[OOC: Will stop here for now… see what Tobin discovers in his searching… taking 20 again... I'm looking for anything -- alternative exits, items of interest on the ground or walls or ceiling, anything that would indicate how the young lad died... I'll stay away from the fence for now]

Late comer to battle

Malius had so far kept to himself knowing that he was the outsider among this group. So when the old limping man had first appeared the elf took no real notice of him to his mistake.

Within what seemed like only seconds the man had revealed himself to be an enemy and combat was joined. Clearly Malius being the last one to act was in no position to charge into the attack and so did scan the area around the campsite quickly in search of other foes. He would support the others if needed but make no move forward to allow the others room to work.
For now he watched....

Sing Loud, or Plug your Ears.

Elessarae draws pulls her bow and moves quickly to the window, "Sing loug or plug you ears, their gibberish causes despair and hopelessness."

She grabs three arrows with her right hand and places two of them under one finger of her left hand holding the bow, the third she notches and looks for an target, while she begins to sing the song she sang this morning at the river.

"See thee now the foe before us,
Blades and bows are now in focus,
Evil comes now like locust,
A death dirge is the chorus,

"Strike now bow and arrow deeply,
Blades drawn now to sweep thee quickly.
Death will come to you now neatly,
Meet thy fate, we give sweetly."

Elessarae falls back to the standard words and sing as she faces the foe that comes at them. It was a song of defense and defiance, of standing against the impossible and succeeding.

Heavy of heart

It was with a heavy heart that she knew what she had to do, the next few instances preciously short. If it was just herself at danger, Alyssia would gladly stall in hopes of changing the man’s course of action, but the lives of others were in balance. She could not afford a single moment’s hesitation. This man had chosen his course of action, had chosen to reject Lysora’s mercy and instead invite her wrath. He had chosen his own damnation, his own ending.

Alyssia stood tall and proud while showing her goddess’s holy power, her halo of light surrounding her body. A silent prayer was lifted up toward the heavens as Alyssia began to rise in the air. Holy magic suffused her body, throughout every cell it called, sang, to her. Her arm stretched out and down towards the man that now stood below her as if condemning him.

“Everybody,” Alyssia’s voice called out to her companions that were now moving in for battle, “stand aside. He has invited this fate upon himself. Know that it is with a mourning heart that I condemn you, stranger.”

It was with this that she next called forth the magic that her goddess had imbued her with, calling it down to take the life of one she would have rather healed. A small tear welled up in her eye and began to slide down her cheek as she released the spell.

(OOC: First round, nimbus of light and levitation spell, moving 20 ft as movement action. Second round, if all stay back I will cast fireball seeing as how I met the stranger at the edge of the camp. I everybody moves in I will use magic missile. Either way, I will move another 10 ft upwards before casting the spell. Movement allowance with lev is 20’.)

Kharolis Mountains

Before any of them could react, the old man cut down again on Alyssia, this time with both weapons. He seemed far too agile for his age. His rapier aimed for Alyssia’s flank this time, but the sharp tip pierced only the air in front of her. Perhaps the man’s attention was more on his sickle, for it followed quickly and struck hard in Alyssia’s back. The point of the sickle punctured her skin and struck bone. Not even bothering about prying his weapon out, the man grabbed at his vest, where a row of sickles hang for the taking. Within a second he had filled his fist once more with a deadly curved blade.
The pain in Alyssia’s back was not enough to dull her senses. She stood up straight and proud, the magic from her goddess ready to strike this foul intruder. She started glowing, and her hands formed the pattern of a levitation spell. In that small moment her guard was down, and the man lashed out with his rapier; an act of fear, clearly. (OOC: attack of opp) The rapier cut a deep gash in her stomach and her clothes stained red instantly. It was not enough to get the devotee of Lysora out of her strong concentration. Like a weeping angel she rose to the sky, out of range of further attack, her blood dripping down in streams upon the old man.

******

Draven faced a battle of his own. As he dove forward, fearless of what he deemed a minor opponent, his katana swerved high. But before Soulscythe could come down, the hound jumped at him and scratched its claws over his chest. They scraped over his armor harmlessly, but the beast’s teeth clapped dangerously close to Draven’s neck. He had been lucky.
Then his katana came down upon the beast, and he knew that luck was not on his side. He was just plain skilled as a fighter. The blade struck hard and sliced a piece of skin and flesh off the hound’s right front leg. If it mattered to the creature, it didn’t show it.
As they stood there, facing each other for a split second, Draven became aware of a sound from behind him. Through the bushes came the sound of somebody approaching fast. He was not in time to turn and hit, but he caught a glimpse of a woman, dressed in black like himself. A dagger got punched into his ribs, and though it was a small blade, the impact was incredible.

***********

Loda and Gothard both weren’t feeling to well. They were almost sober, and in a state of mind where the lust for ale dominated everything. Still, when the old beggar had ruptured their calm campfire, the druid got up with only one thing on her mind: killing the old bastard.
Gothard was by her side as she rushed in, axe held high. The old man was so caught up by Alyssia’s flight that he was too late to even step aside. Loda’s axe carved a straight line from his left shoulder down to his hip. He yelled out in pain, and took a small step backwards from the impact. The Khord’s companion wasn’t doing so great. Gothard thought he had aimed his jump righteously but missed the old man widely.

(OOC: Alyssia is wounded badly. You can still continue your plan of attack, Vesper, but you’ll need healing soon. Draven is under one third of his HP. I didn’t include Malius, Geim and Thondrek in this post. Malius stated that he wasn’t doing anything yet. Geim is waiting for a new player, and Thondrek is going to die soon if Grugg doesn’t post. )

Londelirinen Kingdom

Urvanial’s tower
26th day of the 7th month: Pfier
1:25 pm

Elessar had encountered these owls before. She knew what to expect. Still, what she saw coming through the window of the druid’s tower was an unnerving sight. It looked like a cloud of feathers coming their way. At least 15 of these creatures came flying from the outskirts of the elven city.
She yelled a warning to the others, but they stood stiffened by the view of the owls approaching. Then Urvanial snapped out of his trance and called down the hole:

“Kher, bring your shovel up here! We’re under attack!”

Then he looked at the bladesinger and nodded at the words of her song. Before the owls reached the tower he had finished a spell that covered Elessarae in a striped aura. She heard loud purring, like that of a cat. When both aura and purring faded, she found that her senses were heightened. She could see things more clear, felt like she had gotten faster. It was then that the owls crashed upon the walls with their talons and loud hoots.

As soon as the first owl appeared in one of the windows, the bladesinger let her arrow fly. Despite her stronger view the arrow missed and flew through the cloud of birds harmlessly. The owl entered the room, knocking over the plant that Urvanial had tended earlier. It came directly at Elessar and would’ve pierced her face with its talons if Telliri hadn’t interfered. He had drawn his longsword and brought it down upon the owl in mid-air. The creature slammed into the stone floor, but was quickly replaced by another. Four owls had found their way into the room already, and they were ready to attack.

Tobin had searched his cell thoroughly, and found some interesting items. The text on the wall was slightly discouraging, but the Cidal didn’t despair. He decided to use his time to think of a way out. Just when he had found a comfortable spot, the two ants in front of his door started to move. One of them started to untie the rope that bound the door to the cell. The other one pressed its body flat on the ground. Even its head pressed down as if it wanted to sink into the bottom of the walkway. When the door was untied and opened, the other guarding ant joined its cousin in the strange position on the ground.

Around the corner appeared an ant unlike any of the ones Tobin had already seen. This one was larger than the others, bore a bronze helmet on its head, and wore a robe the looked like it was made from paper. From the sleeves of the robe sprouted human hands, but for the rest it was every bit as insect as the other ants.
Without even looking at the flat ants it walked up to the opening of Tobin’s cage. As it looked at him, the little hero felt himself sink away in the endless facets of the creature’s eyes. He had a vision of himself standing in a pit, a hole in the ground. The edges of the pit were swarmed with ants that cheered his name. On one end he noticed the large ant with human hands, even several of the same kind. In their midst was the mother of all of them, so large, her head could’ve been Tobin himself. Her long body carried away into a tunnel beyond Tobin’s sight. But even she felt appreciative towards him and nodded gently as he looked at her.

The cheering faded, the image too, and the ant in the cell’s opening nodded at the Cidal like the queen had done. Then he turned and walked away. The cell door remained open, the two guards flat on the ground.

the battle rages....

Loda watched in horror as her friend Alyssia was carved up one attack after another, but was amazed at her stalwart concentration, and drifted up into the air. Loda pushed on with her attacks, and heaved her axe once again, trying to cleave the assailant in two. Gothard went straight for the mans ankles, trying to knock him off balance, and get him to the ground. They both were angry, not only at the fact this man betrayed them, but they didnt get to finish their pints either. This man will pay for the devastation he had caused. But the battle seemed a little empty, where was everyone else?

( ok, I will keep attacking him with the axe, wieling in two hands once again. gothard will try an trip the man to the ground)

A Time to Act

Malius watched with growing apprehension as the unknown stranger proved to be a match at the art of the blade and much more of a threat then he had at first appeared.

Knowing to do nothing in fear of causing more confusion was no longer an option, Composite bow in hand, arrows knocked, the Elvin Ranger waited for a clear shot....
