Eol: I agree that Rick's description of how Shane died was about as clumsy as they get. In fact, I think most in the group acted quite oddly toward the end of the episode.

By the way, the official Walking Dead talk show (Talking Dead...) confirmed that the "zombie flashes" were what Shane experienced as he was turning. (I never knew about this talk show until now, so I haven't seen any other episodes. I'm guessing they provide quite a few insights as well.)

Went to Wal-Mart yesterday and bought the 2nd season of 'The Walking Dead' dvd and the sticker on the front of the dvd box states: 'New Season Premieres Oct 14 Sundays 9/8c AMC'

The one regret I have about getting rid of cable is that I'll miss The Walking Dead on 'broadcast night'.

Ah well... with all the $$$ I'm saving by not paying an outrageously overpriced cable/dish/direct tv bill, though, I should be able to afford the Season 3 DVDs when they're released.

I have DISH network here in Texas so I'm in the same boat as you my friend as DISH dropped AMC in thier little tiff.
Sometimes I really hate Cable companies as they don't give a S**t about us the TV viewing public but only their monatary bottom line.

When Rick is talking to Lori about what transpired with Shane, he wasn't talking to an ally, someone who needs to hear the bad news jumbled up into a good story, he was talking to his wife. The one person that should be his confidant, who should understand. Especially given that she was very manipulative in their conversations, spreading the rift that had grown between the two. She had all but said he should be rid of Shane.

When he was talking to her, it was an amazing confession into the empathetic brilliance of the man. Rick sees so much, perhaps from all the situations he's handled as a sheriff, but people readers are scary to me. He's a scary man, and yet he uses his gifts with good will (most of the time). When Shane was talking to the "habits he had to break" outside of the rv back at camp in season one, I'm sure he knew right then and there what had gone on between his wife and friend. Yet he never let's on. He waits for the right moment.

His bad explanation was a true caption of events. Rather then bend the truth into a story (or an outright lie as Shane began to do so often) and I think he meant it as a tactical maneuver. I think he wanted to tell his wife how much he saw, and more to the point, wanted to see how she handled the truth. Which, by the way, was fear, before abandonment, and then disgust disguised as anger, and outright hatred, which is an indication of her dual natured intentions.

Then, he broke. In his eyes there was only rage. His wife was not his wife, not his closest ally. Not his. At least not wholly, and in that moment, treated him like the murderer of her lover, and not her love that had been faced by a terrible choice. A choice that was in no way his fault.

I think after that, he was done. He was overwhelmed by the guilt of killing his best friend, which, as he knew in his mind, could have been prevented if he had chosen. Because he knew all along. He was forced to watch as his friend betrayed him time and again. So when he spoke to the group, he wasn't so much clumsy as undone. And the screaming was his minds release, trying to justify himself to himself, and no one else.

I'm just glad the next season illuminates Lori's realizations of her own massive misgivings. Because I was about ready to jump into the screen at her. Haha.

Random point: Carl is becoming pretty cool.

As for Lori? There are few televisions characters I bother to hate. I truly DESPISE this woman. The day she gets zombie munched cannot come too soon. Perhaps she's carrying a walker-baby that will eat its way from her womb.

Still too good for her.

That said; yeah, Lori is really prime zombie-chow as far as the show goes... of course, knowing her fate from the graphic novels version... *shrugs* ... I'm torn... truly... :\\

I could completely do without the entire Andrea/Michonne storyline. Andrea also annoys me; she's wanted to die since season one.

And Michonne? So she's some sort of southern Samuari chick or something?

Maybe I'd feel differently if I had read the graphic novels, but to me, she's terribly unbelievable as a character right now. Everyone else in the show is a regular person with a developed personality. She's strong and silent and is apparently some sort of cornbread sword saint. Sure, whatever.

Kind of reminds me of the newbie tabletop player that gives you this kind of character sheet: "He doesn't talk much. He has a mysterious background. Nobody knows much about him. But man, is he awesome in a fight."

Alrighty then.

...where Michonne is concerned, at least if they keep the character marginally similar to how she's presented in the graphic novels, anyway. Admittedly, she does seem a little on the super-samurai/unbelievable character side, at the moment, but, without giving too much away, she's been a survivor since looooong before the outbreak. *secretive wink*

Her hesitation/unwillingness to answer the questions posed to her about her walkers in episode 3 has something to do with all of that, too... so, I'm figuring that we'll be getting a clearer insight into Michonne as the season progresses and, as a result, it'll make her a little more believable.
