On Board the Toothless Dragon, Return Trip:

Mother Earth had seen it proper to answer the prayer of her Shaman. She turned the wind from aiding the approaching ship and let it bless the the hard work of the Stout Heart. Filling the sail of the Toothless Dragon the now sped their journey. As Tohmas watched he saw that Altera had extended her grace, the enemy ship now foundered as the wind pushed it back and as arrows of flame were launched from the other ship they batted down harmlessly into the sea by her arms of air.
Captain Crayfish quickly seized the moment to steer the Dragon so as to deliver a glancing blow from her ramming brow into the stern of the other ship. The blow being at the water line the enemy was now taking on water. As the Toothless Dragon now attempted to make an escape the wizard Areldor managed to somehow trigger his newly acquired 'Fire Stick', with a Fire Ball flame that struck above the mid-section of the ship on the right side. The brilliant explosion set fire to the middle of the railing, while transforming the mast into a flaming torch.

Tohmas gasped to see the fire leap from the stick held in his companion’s hand. He had been trained to never use fire as a weapon, too much earth had been scorched by the runaway effects of wildfire that evil had used kill and destroy what it could not control. As they ship drew away from the battle Tohmas softly addressed the mage. “My friend….. the use of fire in battle is taboo to my training as a Shaman. Its effect can often do more damage then was intended. You must know that I am sworn to attack any enemy that should bring flame to battle….. The burning of a section of the land for any reason cannot be done even by a friend….. You must use great caution with that device for its misuse will turn Altar’s favor away from us.” Looking down slightly on the Elven Illusionist Tohmas smiled grimly, “I will pray to Atira for guidance”.

Unexpected Intervention

Confrontation
World of Aihrde
Island of Tagea
On Board The Toothless Dragon
Late Afternoon on Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

As Tohmas stepped forward to confront Areldor regarding the dangers of uncontrolled fire, that was just as much an enemy to the Shaman of Atira as any evil foe could be, the Paladin Jaufre rushed past them both to provide a shield against any retaliation from the pirate crew on 'The Stomper' for the damage inflicted by the astonished Illusionist.

With as much haste as he could muster the paladin raced toward the illusionist, shield at the ready, lest an angered pirate seek revenge for the burning destruction with a well placed arrow.
In the ensuing excitement, the Illusionist was oblivious to the purpose of the Paladin's immediate action to protect the Seeker who had once again seemingly unwittingly provided a damaging blow against yet another enemy!

There he was wide eyed, with his mouth somewhat open just staring at what he just unleashed. The only thing that broke Areldor his gaze was a shield that crossed into his vision that was carried by the Jaufre. As Areldor turned his head to the paladin he did not care what Jaufre was trying to do but responded with “Did you see that!!”
Fortunately for both the agitated Shaman and the animated Illusionist, a volley of arrows from the listing enemy ship intent upon revenge were thwarted once again!

Several had missed their intended mark, imbedding themselves in various points of the ship, too close for comfort for both Stout Hearts and Seekers; however, there were five deadly shafts that may have possibly claimed the lives of both the Shaman and the Illusionist, had not the quick thinking Paladin provided them both a hasty source of protection, as the shield held true against the impact of the deadly aimed arrows!

Mere moments earlier, Amur had cried out with alarm, imploring Captain Crayfish to make the right call to remove 'The Toothless Dragon' from the possible imminent danger posed by the flames engulfing the enemy ship!

“We might want to get out of here now while we can!” He yelled hoping the captain would make to right choice and back oars and get them away from their seriously injured opponent who would hopefully be too worried about putting out fires than storming their boats. The boy was afraid that if they stayed close the flames could leap over to their ship and then they would all be in trouble. Fire was the worst thing that could happen on a ship at sea.
Even before Areldor had unleashed the damaging blast against 'The Stomper' the veteran of countless sea battles had ordered his crew to ram the enemy ship, as a desperate ploy to escape the clutches of the blood thirsty Cut Throats crew!

Dagger shouted orders of encouragement to the Stout Hearts to 'bend their backs' in an effort to escape with their lives and with the invaluable treasure sought by their ruthless enemy!

As 'The Toothless Dragon' began separating itself from 'The Stomper' in a gallant effort by the crew to make its way safely back to the 'Toothless Dragon Tavern' with its precious cargo, yet another more fearsome foe strode to the stern of the enemy ship to retaliate his wrath upon 'The Toothless Dragon' and its brave crew!

This was a Menacing Mage who undoubtedly must have had a hand in the mysterious wind that had born 'The Stomper' in relentless pursuit of the Stout Hearts and Seekers to separate their heads from their acquired treasure!

But before the Menacing Mage could unleash his Arcane Attack against the fleeing ship; whether it be by the gracious hand of Minerva in answer to the devotion of the Illusionist, or be it some other Fate or Deity protecting one or more of the Stout Hearts or Seekers, the damaged stern of 'The Stomper' gave way to the 'Unexpected Intervention' of the Beaked Dragon from the underground cavern, as the enraged creature now relentlessly invaded the deck of the listing enemy ship!

Why so Serious?

Amur stayed low to avoid the arrows but when he felt the ship pulling away and heard a might crashing sound he popped his head up and saw the beaded Dragon attacking the enemy ship.

“YEEAAHH!”, he cried out as he leaped to his feet and pumped a fist in the air. He stood there smiling as he watched their ship pull further away from the enemy as the enraged dragon tore into The Stomper.

"Hey lighten up” Amur turned to Tohmas, “he just helped save our lives. You should be a little more appreciative.” The boy shook his head as he walked by Tohmas and clapped Areldor on the shoulder.

“Great Job!”

Great Job..........

"Hey lighten up” Amur turned to Tohmas, “he just helped save our lives. You should be a little more appreciative.” The boy shook his head as he walked by Tohmas and clapped Areldor on the shoulder.

“Great Job!”

Tohmas was amused by the younglings comments. He could remember the time when he too could not see beyond the end of his own nose. The time will come when the boy will understand strength, power and responsibility. This adventure will surely test him and Tohmas hopes the boys survives the test.

The Paladin Jaufre hadrushed past them both to provide a shield against any retaliation from the pirate crew on 'The Stomper' for the damage inflicted by the astonished Illusionist. Tohmas saw the arrows embedded in the shield, “Not only are you strong friend, but you are wise. You saw what we did not and your action may well haved saved our lives. Jaufre, you should be called Nemen, He Who Sees. Thank you.”

Praise the light.

Oh Lord of Light I beseech thee, may you shine favour upon we meager men. May your light protect us from the will of the ill-intent. Grant unto me the vigil to ensure those in my watch may grow under your watchful gaze
The prayer raced through Jaufre's mind as he hurried past the illusionist and the druid, determined to put himself between harm and the two other men; even if he himself need be the shield.

As the volley of arrows made there way to the ship, Cedrus must have smiled upon them, for each seemed to come short of there mark. What is more, the few deadly arrows that had been on deadly paths now lay suspended by the shield held by his right arm. No one had be harmed.

"Praise the Light"

Cauitiously Jaufre began moving back, eyes still fixed on the other vessel, lest another volley of arrows begin. However he did not expect to see what he did.

A menacing figure emerged upon the deck of the assailing ship, but what would have occurred next would not be known. As if to say that the threats were over for the Treasure Seeker's now, the beaked dragon from the cavern assaulted the pirate vessel. Truly it was a chance occurance, for the beast, in its rage at being robbed had attacked the wrong ship.

Jaufre swallowed hard. He did not think that any man deserved the fate that was befalling the Stomper, nor did he think that the crew or the other seekers would be willing to attempt to save any of their would be assailants and risk damage to the ship at the maw of the beaked dragon.

The Paladin let out a resevered sigh; such matters were complex in life and death situation. He turned to see Tohmas looking at him, while Areldor still seemed taken aback by the whole ordeal.

“Not only are you strong friend, but you are wise. You saw what we did not and your action may well haved saved our lives. Jaufre, you should be called Nemen, He Who Sees. Thank you.”
The Druid's words were reassuring. Jaufre worked up what could be called a smile and nodded in acknowledgement; there was still some good upon these seas.

Had to reply

Areldor head was still spinning with the trill of battle and the release of magic that he had never experienced. He looked at Jaufre’s shield with the arrows lodged in it, then glanced back at the “Stomper” burning and under siege by the beak dragon. Finally after a deep breath the illusionist was able to calm his mind and gather his wits. It was then Tohmas spoke to him

“What!!!???” was the first thing that came to Areldor mind. He did not say it, but his face reflected it. He was now trying to understand what the holy man was telling him. “I am trading one enemy for a new one in the future is that what he just said!” Then while he was preparing to respond, Amur came by and defended his actions.
"Hey lighten up” Amur turned to Tohmas, “he just helped save our lives. You should be a little more appreciative.” The boy shook his head as he walked by Tohmas and clapped Areldor on the shoulder.

“Great Job!”

Amur’s comments helped Areldor with the anger that started to build in his thoughts and after the clap on the shoulder he gave Amur hearty smile and a “Thank you” to him. But the illusionist still did not understand what the meaning of his statement. He when over to where Tohmas and Jaufre were at while putting the wand back into his bag all the while thinking of what to say to the shaman. When he got to them, he overheard Tohmas thanking the paladin for his aid.

“Not only are you strong friend, but you are wise. You saw what we did not and your action may well haved saved our lives. Jaufre, you should be called Nemen, He Who Sees. Thank you.”

Areldor then remembered what Jaufre did for him and Tohmas. “That’s why his shield had the arrows in it. He saved my life and Tohmas and all I did was focus on the fire that the wand produced.” After Tohmas finished, with humility in his voice Areldor spoke” Thank you Jaufre. Thank you protecting me and Tohmas. Your god and your family would be very proud of you this day.” And then he gently put his hand on his shoulder. Then the illusionist turned to Tohmas. His anger toward the shaman was gone. The reality of what Jaufre did and the whole day of events had now started weighing on him and began to temper his thoughts. As he looked up to the big man he thanked Minerva for the mercy and grace she had given him and the other Seekers, then said to Tohmas “We have a long trip ahead of us, and in that time maybe you can help me to understand this fire taboo.”

Saved

Crow was glad that magic and not arrow or melee had saved the day once more. The Elf had not really wanted a fight off of land. Make no mistake he would fight but preferred solid footing rather then a tossing deck.

For now he would wait till they reached land and a friendly harbor once more.

Previously in Treasure Seekers Aided by an unnatural wind, the enemy vessel The Stomper and its crew of Cut Throats in the employ of Mad Dog Muldoon's rival Long Tom Stomp, had seemingly cut off the escape route of The Toothless Dragon.

Fortunately the Shaman Tohmas was able to call upon his goddess Atira, who granted a Spirit Gust of Air that not only caused the mysterious wind to abate, but also extinguished the flames from a volley of arrows from the archers on the enemy ship, plus blowing all enemy arrows and spears harmlessly away from their intended targets, into the dark waters surrounding the harbor of sunken ships.

Meanwhile, the Illusionist Areldor instinctively activated his newly acquired 'Fire Wand' against the enemy ship, without damaging The Toothless Dragon or injuring any of the Stout Hearts or Seekers.

However, the mast and middle railing of The Stomper was immediately engulfed in flames as a number of enraged archers targeted the source of their misfortune.

Were it not for the resourcefulness of the Paladin Jaufre, both the Illusionist and the Shaman might have fallen dead on the deck, but his shield held strong and true, preventing five arrows from piercing their intended victims!

Captain Crayfish ordered his crew of Stout Hearts to ram the enemy ship, causing damage to its stern. As Dagger shouted orders of encouragement to 'bend their backs' and make good their escape with the invaluable treasure sought by their enemy, yet another threat emerged in the form of a Menacing Mage about to unleash an arcane attack against the fleeing ship!

However, the enraged Beaked Dragon from the underground cavern suddenly emerged from the churning waters, invading the deck of The Stomper as it clawed its way through the shattered timbers of the stern of the listing enemy ship!

Meeting with Mad Dog Muldoon
World of Aihrde
Region of Aachen
City of Heristat
Toothless Dragon Tavern
Early Evening on Monday
Marrero 15, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Each of the Seekers gave his or her account of what had transpired during their journey, as Mad Dog Muldoon listened intently, having already been briefed late that very afternoon by Dagger and the Stout Hearts who had already brought him the treasure chest filled with gold coins and the collection of cutlasses.

The Seekers had been invited to a celebratory feast with Mad Dog Muldoon at the Toothless Dragon Tavern in a private banquet hall, along with Dagger and another adventurer in the employ of Mad Dog Muldoon by the name of Damar.

Accounts from each Seeker were similar as they related how The Toothless Dragon made its escape with the treasure, as they witnessed pandemonium break out on the deck of the listing enemy ship.

The Menacing Mage and Cut Throats crew of The Stomper were forced to turn their undivided attention to battling the Beaked Dragon.

The screams and shouts from the enemy ship faded away in the distance, as the Stout Hearts rowed like their very lives depended upon it (which, of course, it did), as their years of expertise navigating the seas rewarded them with a strong current that swiftly bore their vessel across the open sea toward their destination (with a speed much swifter than they had traveled previously).

Therefore, the fate of The Stomper, the Cut Throats crew, the Menacing Mage and the enraged Beaked Dragon were unknown to any of the Seekers, Stout Hearts, Dagger or even Captain Crayfish himself.

They rowed on through the night, with the aid of the swift current; until by mid morning on Sunday they had left the port city of Eluythus far behind them, as they drew ever nearer to Heristat and the Toothless Dragon Tavern.

At noon, they stopped their journey without any incident of major significance, refreshing themselves with a swim and small feast; then resting about four hours, before rousing themselves and hoisting the main sail to catch the good fortune of a strong breeze, that bore them swiftly toward Heristat, while the Stout Hearts once again rested from manning the oars, thankful to whatever deity had smiled upon them this day.

The wind blew strong far into the night; whether from Atira, Minerva or some other source; until Captain Crayfish ordered his Stout Hearts crew to bend their backs once more, while Dagger stood at the bow of the boat, using the ability of his keen Dwarven Deep Vision throughout the remainder of the night, as The Toothless Dragon headed for home.

By mid-morning on Monday, the Stout Hearts had delivered the treasure of gold coins, as well as the cutlasses to Mad Dog Muldoon and had made their reports, along with Captain Crayfish, before being dismissed to go back down river to enjoy several days of company with the Ladies from the Docks of Eluythus, who they had promised to visit upon their return from their heretofore unknown journey.

Dagger, on the other hand, stayed behind to assist the Seekers with their accommodations at the Toothless Dragon Tavern, informing them to meet that evening after they had refreshed themselves, for a banquet at the private banquet room, hosted by Mad Dog Muldoon, where they would each share about their journey together, before receiving an ample reward for their gallant efforts!

Stout Hearts Share Reward Unbeknownst to the Seekers, a reward had been posted for any evidence discovered regarding the disappearance of numerous Stout Hearts.

Mad Dog Muldoon had rewarded The Toothless Dragon crew of Stout Hearts handsomely for bringing him the 50 cutlasses and the information explaining the demise of the Skeleton Pirates.

In turn, the Stout Hearts shared their bounty with each of the Seekers, by having a sack of 500 Gold Coins delivered to the room of each Seeker by Dagger with their compliments for such an unexpectedly successful voyage.

Dagger explained that their room and board at the Toothless Dragon Tavern for the next two weeks was free of charge.

Therefore, the Seekers were free to spend the gold on equipment, supplies, nightly entertainment or to keep the gold in a secure place for their future, whenever they chose to retire from their adventuring life.

Private Banquet Hall The Seekers had been ushered into a spacious private banquet hall, attached to the furthest part of the building structure, from the main entrance of the Toothless Dragon Tavern, near the numerous sets of rooms reserved for dignitaries and weary travelers alike, where Mad Dog Muldoon was wont to entertain his important guests, while conducting some of his most secretive of business transactions.

Upon entering the hall, the Seekers marveled at the ornate fire place, centered in all its extravagances, in the wall to the left of a great table in the shape of a rectangular 'U'.

Mad Dog Muldoon was seated at the Head of the Table, where there was room for four more guests to be seated; however, this night those four chairs remained empty. Likewise, each of the longer tables were constructed to seat10 persons to a side, or 40 persons total, plus if need be both could comfortably accommodate another person at each end, for a total of 47 persons, including their gracious host, one Mad Dog Muldoon.

On the right hand side of the room, an equally ornate double door swung in and out on its hinges, as a covey of male and female servers brought immense platters of delicious delicacies to fill their plates to their hearts desire, with plenty of drink to fill their tankards beyond their wildest dreams!

High overhead, a massive chandelier brightened the vast room with a brilliant luminescence that spoke of magical lanterns from far away lands.

Directly behind Mad Dog Muldoon, a few yards from his seat, could be seen an ornate heavy double door, with an inscription above the door frame in bold gold laced lettering which decreed: Mad Dog Muldoon Specialty Shoppe.

As the Seekers approached the table, escorted by servants to their prearranged seats, Mad Dog Muldoon, Damar and Dagger respectfully arose to acknowledge their presence, as Mad Dog Muldoon greeted each of the Seekers by name, before introducing Damar to the group, as the lone survivor of another party of adventurers in his employ.

Damar, somber and broody from the recent loss of his companions, was dressed in good quality woods clothing, which were not in great shape from whatever ordeal he had survived: a dark green tunic, deep blue leather pants, dark grey soft leather boots, a grey shirt, grey hooded cloak and leather archer's bracers.

The only usable weapons he was carrying included a long knife and a composite long bow, obviously elven made to any who understand such things. He did have a Broadsword that was broken just below the hilt, but it looked more like a 'trophy' from a war, than it did a weapon.

This 196 year young Shindolay High Elf Ranger stood nearly 6 feet tall; his muscular frame was naturally handsome by Human standards; sporting silvery hair, bright green eyes and a chiseled face.

The servants seated Crow, Mylos, Elyra, Tohmas, Willem and Vincent on the outside of the table on Mad Dog Muldoon's left hand; while Damar, Dagger, Areldor, Jaufre, Bartimeous and Amur were seated on the outside of the table on Mad Dog Muldoon's right hand (with the fireplace to their backs).

The other spaces for guests had no provision of chairs, because Mad Dog Muldoon was intent upon addressing and rewarding only these twelve 'guests' who were currently in his employ; unless upon receiving their monetary rewards, any or all of the adventurers chose to follow a different path than the one about to be offered (to them and only them) by Mad Dog Muldoon.

The Offer Mad Dog Muldoon rubbed his hands together with joyful anticipation as the grizzled, middle aged owner of the Toothless Dragon Tavern set his eyes upon each of the Seekers as they helped themselves to generous portions of the bounty that was set on the table before them.

After they all had shared their stories, including Damar, Mad Dog Muldoon rose up from his seat at the head of the table to confer with one of his servants.

Mad Dog Muldoon walked with a limp, had numerous scars over his large rugged frame, most notably the one across his face that was partially hidden by the black eye patch that covered his right eye; but the burly human fighter was still strong enough to pull his own weight and much more in a battle. You could see it in the flame of his eyes!

However, he had long ago grown weary of the life of a mercenary adventurer, choosing to settle in Heristat, where he had opened the Toothless Dragon Tavern, nearly ten years ago.

Nontheless, Mad Dog Muldoon was obviously more involved in mercenary adventuring than this group of Seekers had ever imagined, upon their first meeting not so long ago!

"Fer where dere be war dere be treasure!"

Mad Dog Muldoon goes on to explain to the Seekers and Damar what Dagger already knows, that Mad Dog Muldoon and Long Tom Stomp had years ago been best friends, comrades in arms and business partners together.

But a woman had come between them and torn their worlds apart, resulting in the two friends dissolving their business partnership, and ultimately, their friendship!

Long Tom Stomp was not heard from for a long, long time. Numerous rumors proclaimed that his once friend was now dead.

Perhaps he had died, because rumors of The Stomper carried the news back to Mad Dog Muldoon that his once friend was no more!

Rumors whispered on the wind of a sinister source of dark evil nestled deep within the unknown boundaries of a forgotten land, hidden somewhere in a distant region on the mainland, across the Sea of Shenal to the west.

Mad Dog Muldoon was convinced that this rumored source was somehow linked to the cause and effect of his once friend Long Tom Stomp being transformed into the now notorious plunderer of merchants and their treasures: The Stomper!
For this cause, Mad Dog Muldoon was recruiting a new generation of Stout Hearts and Treasure Seekers; those who would prepare themselves for an unwanted war against the Orcs, Goblins, UnDead and all manner of vile evil creatures that would seek to renew the conflicts of the Great Wars that had once ravaged the lands; wherein Mad Dog Muldoon and his Stout Hearts had answered the Call to Arms and prevailed over the evil enemies they were compelled (by the challenge of circumstances beyond their control) to face and to conquer!

A cause for which Mad Dog Muldoon now offered the Seekers and Damar to join with Dagger in exchanging their 5,000 Gold Coins for the opportunity to acquire what may be needed to help to make a difference in the western lands!

Having presented his offer, Mad Dog Muldoon, followed by Dagger, limped his way to the double doors that were now wide open, revealing a set of stone stairs leading down into what amounted to be a 'war bunker' where his guests were invited to equip themselves for the price of their reward of gold coins, if they chose to sail west with Captain Crayfish and the Stout Hearts in two weeks time!

Those of you who are continuing on with this adventure should be discussing and choosing a destination somewhere on the Mainland to the west.

You have until Monday November 25th to agree upon your Destination west across the Sea of Shenal.

Failure to come to an agreement regarding your destination means that you are at the mercy of The Castle Keeper, namely Hammer, as to where you will sail to ?????

I need this Destination Information to properly prepare for the next encounter and to be able to Post the Destination UpDate sometime during the USA Thanksgiving Weekend Holiday!

Big Backpost!

The party, including Mylos were running towards the ship, hastened by the beckoning gestures and calls of the crew. As they drew closer Mylos could hear the reason why they were being rushed. A ship had been spotted on the horizon and it was not yet clear whether they be friend or foe.

As the crew, and the seekers, made it to the ship Captain Crayfish did a quick count of his crew. Nodding his head in satisfaction they were ordered to let slip. After moving away from the coast and navigating their way through the reefs and wreckages that surrounded the coastline of the island the crew and the seekers quickly realised that they were being pursued. The ship that had previously been on the horizon were rapidly catching up with them.

Mylos was busy counting the coins he had scattered about his person before he realised just how close the approaching ship was to them. Quickly, but carefully, Mylos stashed the different types of coins in their appropriate pouches and pockets grabbing hold of a handrail, he could be in for a rough ride.

Mylos had only ever travelled on the peaceful rivers of his homeland and a battle on the high sea was a totally new and unfounded experience. Clutching to the handrail as though it was made of gold coins Mylos hunkered down prepared to cling on for his life.

Word quickly got round that ‘The Stomper’ was the captain of the crew who was chasing them. Mylos had never heard of the name, but one of the crew members hastily explained while tying a knot to the handrail he was desperately clutching. His reputation did little to settle Mylos’ nerves.

In what seemed a blur and flurry of excitement a sudden gust rose around the ship accompanied by incantations from Tohmas. Mylos had seen magic being used before and what came next did not shock the young gnome.

A burst of fire shot from the newly acquired wand in Areldor’s hands. The fiery bolt smashed into the mast of the enemy ship alighting it, and the nearest crewmembers. The crew of The Stomper had but a momentary rest to fire a few arrows in reply to Areldor, but the quick thinking paladin, Jaufre, covered him with his shield, possibly saving his life.

Mylos was so busy watching the heroic effort of the paladin that he did not notice the Captains daring plan. The ship was thundering towards The Stomper the ram on the hull fully extended. Mylos braced himself once more preparing himself for the collision.

With a huge, splintering crash the two boats collided. The Stompers crew was disorganised and unready for the bone-jarring impact some of the crew went flying across the deck, some even fell into the surrounding water. The Toothless Dragon had broken free of The Stomper, who had no chance of pursuit. The mast was burning still, along with the decking beneath and the front end of the boat was taking on heavy loads of water.

Just as Mylos loosened his grip on the handrail he clutched it tightly once more as a huge creature broke free of the sea displacing a large amount of water. In one fluid movement it too crashed into The Stomper ending what little attempt of a pursuit the crew were trying to rescue. Mylos could not wrestle his eyes away from the monstrous, but marvellous, creature and it wasn’t long before he recognised the Beaked Dragon from the cavern before.

Once the battle was over the rest of the voyage was calm. The crew’s spirits were high after their triumph against the legendary Stomper, but Mylos could not share their enjoyment. After the excitement of the fight against the skeletons, his narrow escape from the Beaked Dragon and the skirmish between the two ships he could not help but feel anticlimactic, he craved for more adventure!

* *

The seekers had returned triumphant. Mad Dog seemed genuinely surprised that they had all returned well and from what Mylos had seen of Mad dog he got the impression that genuine surprise rarely registered on his hardened, scarred features.

Soon the talk got down to their rewards. Five thousand Gold Coins was a fortune in the young Gnome’s eyes. A whole generation in his village would be lucky to see that amount of coin in their lifetime let alone a week.

Later, after washing and freshening up the seekers were invited to a private banquet at the Mad Dog’s request. There they were joined by Damar the sole survivor of a similar exploring party to theirs, this put into perspective the seekers narrow escape and the reasoning behind the rich reward.

After being richly fed and lavishly treated the party were invited down to the Mad Dog’s own speciality Shoppe where specialised goods of the highest quality could be purchased. Although Mylos was reluctant to depart with his dearly beloved coins, he realised the importance of staying alive so that he could add more coins to his ever growing collection.

OOC: Shopping list
300 silver bolts
Elf Mail shirt (tailored to fit?)
5 potions of Cure serious Wounds
1 potion of Cure Critical Wounds

Purchases

Amur was glad to be back on dry land, even though he didn’t throw up at all on the return voyage; maybe he was finally getting his sea legs, at least he hope that was the case. He was overjoyed that on their first mission they had been triumphant; and he had to admit it had been very exciting. He hadn’t thought that risking your life for gold could be so fulfilling. He knew that he would be sticking with the Seekers as long as it was as exciting.

After spending two weeks recovering and resting, Amur was ready for when they were summoned to Mad Dog’s for a a banquet and hopefully word of their next mission. The young boy was stunned by the opulence of the hall and all of it’s furnishings. He partook heavily of the food and even drank some of the spirits, though he didn’t drink too much as he didn’t like how sick it made him when he did.

He listened intently when Mad Dog spoke to them and offered them 5,000 gold, then he spoke of future work and offered them a chance to buy equipment for the journey. Amur looked carefully through the gear and picked out some items:

- Silver Bolt for Cross Bow / 1 Gold Coin per Silver Bolt (100)
- Silver Lead Ball for Sling / 1 Gold Coin per Silver Ball (100)
- Silver Elf Long Sword (Wide Silver Pattern Etched in Blade) /Damage 1d10 +2 /2,000 Gold Coins (1)
- Wand of Cure Serious Wounds (25 Charges) /3d8 /2,500 Gold Coins (1)
- Potion of Cure Light Wounds (5 Servings) /1d8 /300 Gold Coins (1)
- (Spent: 5,000 gp)

He was disappointed that Mad Dog didn’t have any armor that he could use; he looked at the Elvin chain but decided it would restrict his movements and possibly hinder his ‘abilities’ so he passed on that. He did manage to spend all of the 5,000 gold that Mad Dog had paid them but he still had the 500 gold left from the reward for the missing Stout Hearts.

The next day after the banquet, Amur went out on the town and found a shop that sold armor and weapons. Before walking in, he made sure this eye patch was on; he thought his connection to Mad Dog might garner him a little advantage in pricing on his purchases. He looked around and inquired about leather armor, something special, and also he wanted some kind of Light Crossbow, possibly a one-handed crossbow like he had seen once. He had purchased some silver bolts from Mad Dog and needed something with which to shoot them.

(OOC: Ok, need a small lt. crossbow, hopefully a hand crossbow, and some type of special leather armor that will be suitable and beneficial for his ‘position’. Let me know if he finds anything. If nothing here, he will try other shops till he finds something. He had the 500 gp and will try to get it all for that, if possible. Hopefully the eye patch will help. )

Interlude the First (Amur)

Amur Wears His Eye Patch
World of Aihrde
Region of Aachen
City of Heristat
Abalore Arms & Armor
Early Afternoon on Tuesday
Marrero 16, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

The next day after the banquet, Amur went out on the town and found a shop that sold armor and weapons. Before walking in, he made sure this eye patch was on; he thought his connection to Mad Dog might garner him a little advantage in pricing on his purchases. He looked around and inquired about leather armor, something special, and also he wanted some kind of Light Crossbow, possibly a one-handed crossbow like he had seen once. He had purchased some silver bolts from Mad Dog and needed something with which to shoot them.
Amur had been searching the streets of Heristat for the past two hours, seeking a likely place to purchase some type of Special Leather Armor and either a Light Crossbow or hopefully, if his bag of 500 Gold Coins that the Stout Hearts had so graciously shared from their reward for discovering the fate of 50 former comrades in arms, along with the weapons of proof of their grisly demise, would perchance be enough to procure a One-Handed Crossbow like he had once seen a few years ago.

The young Rogue did not want to attract too much attention to himself, so he acted as if he were merely a tourist viewing the parts of the city that others rarely visited in their travels. He was deeply amused once or twice at the offers for manual labor for a few hours, in exchange for a meal and a few coin, but Amur already had a fine room and plenty to eat for the next two weeks, before sailing off into the unknown once again on The Toothless Dragon.

His curiosity drew him to a rather obscure side street, deep within the heart of the city, so without another thought, he slipped through the shadows in search of his sought after weapon and armor.

A few moments later, he found himself standing in front of a rather nondescript building with a battered old sign badly in need of paint or replacement that read: Abalore Arms & Armor.

Amur thought a moment or two, considering to move along in search of a more likely place to find what he was looking for, but his experience had taught him that some of the greatest treasures may be found in the most unlikeliest of places.

The young thief took a deep breath, then decided to put on his eye patch with the red toothless dragon maw, in case the proprietor inside was on friendly terms with Mad Dog Muldoon, and in turn by his association from wearing the eye patch, he might gain a reduced price on his hopeful purchase!

Slowly exhaling, he pushed the door open and was greeted with the smell of an exotic incense!

The décor of the inside of the room was far from what Amur had expected, as he quickly surveyed his new surroundings.

The size of the room was modest at best, with a cozy table in the center, accomodating four tavern-type chairs. There was a counter on the far side of the wall, near a curtain that apparently led to some type of merchandize inventory area.

Mounted heads of various orcs, goblins, ogres and other adversaries that an adventurer may encounter over the course of a long journey into unknown lands, were on display in no particular order on all four walls of the room, enhancing the foreboding atmosphere with lit torches to light the area.

Also on display were various broken specimens of spears, arrows, bolts, blades and a variety of pieces of armor etc from battles unknown.

As the young thief took in the unexpected view, an elderly gentleman with battle scars and a missing left arm limped his way into the room, from the area behind the curtain, with the aid of a cane.

He motioned for Amur to take a seat at the table and inquired if he would care to join him in an informal lunch of bread and cheese, with a tankard of ale to help wash the taste of the city out of his throat, while they discussed possible business?

The elderly gentleman, of course, was Abalore. His apprentice-helper was a Gnome named Ody, who eagerly waited on the two at the table, anticipation growing in his eyes that an interesting deal was in the making between the two!

During the course of their chat, the young thief revealed that he only had a bag of 500 Gold Coins with which to hopefully acquire both a suitable Crossbow and hopefully, Special Leather Armor.

He described his journey with the Stout Hearts and the encounters with the Skeleton Pirates, Beaked Dragon and their harrowing escape from The Stomper.

Then he lamented that there was nothing in the way of armor available for one with skills such as his, when he had to make his purchases at the Mad Dog Muldoon Specialty Shoppe the previous night, which was why he was searching the city for these items.

Abalore smiled and assured Amur that he had indeed come to the right place, as the elderly gentleman removed his hand from the top of the cane, sliding it down the slender shaft and then raising it in full view, pointing the head of the cane towards the eye patch worn by the young thief.

The head of the cane was in the carved shape of a Toothless Dragon with an Open Maw!

Then for the next few minutes, Abalore described scenes of battles and somewhat sketchy scenarios of possible dangers that the party of Seekers might find themselves encountering on the Unknown Mainland to the west, across the Sea of Shenal, making a point of waving his cane in the air and pointing to the various heads on the walls and broken weapons around the room.

Then he called for Ody, whispered something into the wide eyed Gnome's left ear, causing his helper to gaze curiously at the young thief, before he scampered off into the area behind the curtain!

Abalore then announced that for the price of 300 Gold Coins, he would make the proper contribution of equipment that Amur would be needing to help him survive whatever 'Haint' or 'Taint of Evil' the Seekers may encounter!

The transaction was to be a 'step of faith' for the young thief, as Abalore insisted that Ody would not return from behind the curtain, until the transaction was agreed upon!

So sight unseen, Amur handed over 300 Gold Coins to Abalore, wondering all the while if the elderly gentleman had some type of foresight in knowing what the Seekers would be encountering in the unknown lands to the west, or if he was merely a crazy old man, whose sanity had left him long ago, in a far away nameless realm?

A short while later, the young thief was headed back to the Toothless Dragon Tavern. He was now the proud owner of a specially crafted One-Handed Crossbow and a Special +5 Leather Armor!

Note from the Castle Keeper:
Archangel has the liberty of describing the One-Handed Crossbow and the Special +5 Leather Armor when Amur returns to the Toothless Dragon Tavern and shares his good fortune with the rest of the Seekers!

New Gear

Later that afternoon, back at the Toothless Dragon Tavern, Amur had gone up to his room and dressed out in his new Armor. He was surprised at how well it fit; the belts and straps pulled it in so it fit snugly and tight to his body just the way he liked it.

Going down to the common area he told the others, any who happen to be gathering here to drink and eat perhaps, of his good fortune in finding the shoppe, Abalore’s Arms & Armor. He told them excitedly all about the encounter, telling of how the old man seemed to be connected to Mad Dog or perhaps was once in Mad Dog’s employ. How he told of things that they might encounter on their journey; of the wondrous things displayed in his shop.

Amur spoke as only an excited teenage boy can about things he found there and even displayed his new acquisitions; his new Special Leather armor and his new hand crossbow, which is was anxious to test out. That evening after dinner, he would find a place to fire it a few times and get the hang of it now rather than try and do it later in battle.

If any asked him he would gladly give directions to the place, but he would mention that they should indeed take their eye patches with them if they wanted a good deal.

(OOC: He does tell them everything he can remember about the place, perhaps something he seen would be of benefit to the group later on their journey or even help decide where they should go later. Also, he will try and find a place, a practice yard or perhaps Mad Dog has one, where he can fire a few shots with his new crossbow till he has the hang of it and practice hitting with it.)

High holy day at last( and Im not late)

Areldor looked at thee alter in the center of the temple. Behind it was a 20 ft mosaic of the goddess Minerva. Beautiful white columns held the spacious roof and on the edges were the housing of the priestess of great goddess. To Areldor this was 4x’s larger than the one at home and there were many booths for trading or buying of books or items of power. The illusionist with his testimony done, stepped down off the dais and it was now noon and time for the followers of Minerva to offer there sacrifice of gold unto the goddess. He placed the 500 gold pieces on thee alter. The High priestess Tabitha gave the invocation then he walked back to a safe distance, then he took the "Fire Wand" , spoke the command and again the great flame came forth as it did days ago against "The Stomper" and consumed the offering and ignited the fire to the alter to start in the giving of gold.

The illusionist kneels before thee alter and said a prayer of thanks to the goddess. Then he walked out of the area to let others bring their gifts on this High Holy Day. He walked to the high priestess and thanked her again for allowing him to speak and light the alter fire. Then he took a moment to recall the events that got him to this point while watching others give there gifts.

One was not required to give a testimony before the offering, but if one wanted they would have to come early and get approval from the high priestess by telling her ones testimony to see if others would benefit from it and that it reflected the goddess character. In order to get there early Areldor had to not partake of to much wine at Mad Dog's banquet. Getting up before dawn he made his way down the streets to the temple. There the illusionist asked if he could get an audience with high priest and then had to wait. It was not until mid-morning that he got to speak to her, but that did not bother him. During that time Areldor got to work on his testimony; shaping it so it was not too long in taking up her time and to be too long at the dais.

When Tabitha the high priestess gave him audience, he processed to give the account of how he and his companions took up the offer of Mad Dog and how on the island they ran into the undead. He pulled out his ash club and with contained enthusiasm retold how surrounded and outnumbered that he (the weakest member of the group) used this club of ash that his uncle gave him and became the most powerful with a only a club, no armor and Minerva's grace. Then he told about how they found the lost treasure, the wand and escaping the beak dragon. At this point Areldor pulled out of the "Fire Wand” and placed on the table. Then proceeded relive the event of helping with the escape from the pirate ship "The Stomper".

Then finally Areldor told her last about the how Mad Dog rewarded the group with 5000 gps and asked if any could go on another adventure to find items for him to combat a growing darkness that was coming and Areldor spent it all on a wand of healing. He did explain to her that against the undead his spells were not of any real benefit right now, but a wand that could mean the difference between life and death in the future fight against this coming evil. The high priest spoke to Areldor a little longer and then gave him the blessing of giving his testimony and that he could use his fire wand to light the alter to start the ceremony.

“I wonder what you are going to do with me on this next adventure.” Areldor thought with a smile on his face as he looked thru the fire upon the face of his god

Hiya

Having arrived before the mixed bunch of adventurers Mad Dog called "Seekers", Damar got the honor of being the first to share his report of the mission he had embarked on nearly eight weeks earlier with seven others. The pale skinned elf sighed, took a mouthful of wine from his goblet, swallowed it slowly and looked Mr. Muldoon in the eye. He'd nodded his greetings to a few of the newcomers, but didn't take a closer look at any of them yet and he wasn't planning to until he'd spilled out the last bits of the tale. A bard might have stood up to engage her audience better, but Andamarithalan Lanaenil was no storyteller or entertainer and he didn't consider anyone present his superior - Mad Dog included. So he remained seated and began to speak with is smooth, perhaps surprisingly musical voice. Damar's articulation was clear, but it was obvious he just spoke that way. It was no act.

"Fromian Ostiary…" Damar shook his silvery-haired head sadly. "A place just as terrible as every legend of it claims it to be… Had I… Had we really known what to expect, I am quite positive none of use would have agreed to go. Some of us had heard the stories of course, but we believed them to be fairytales of old women and madmen. We should.. No… I should have known better." The ranger took another sip of his wine and carried on: "But it is too late to say such things any more. They are dead now, every single one of them." Damar let his gaze wonder on the people sitting around the table without really seeing them. He was somewhere far away in his mind "You see, you are not the first group of brave souls to accept a mission from Mad Dog here and I am fairly sure neither were we." By then the green eyes had stopped on Mad Dog's. The look on the elf's face was not one of anger, disappointment or even sorrow. It simply lacked any emotion.

"I am sure Mr. Muldoon has no objections, if I reveal the people gathered here the purpose of our mission so far south?" Damar glanced at Mad Dog, but didn't really wait for his approval before carrying on: "There were eight of us who had been hired to take another of Mad Dog's ships to the Fromian Ostiary. I do not know whether you are familiar with the place, but would not be surprised if not as none of us were… The ostiary is a smallish island at the mouth of river Fromia. It is placed in the middle of the entry to the river that leads deep into the lands of once mighty Aenoch and therefore a perfect place for watching over the ships sailing in the area or to stop an enemy fleet from gaining a swift entry into the Aenoch Valley and further. So that was exactly what Emperor Sebastian Oliver did. He built a mighty, unbreachable fortress to guard the river."
"And it was the fortress we were headed to. It has been abandoned since the fall of the emperor and has fallen in to decay and ruin. But tales reaching even my home in the Aenochian Forest have been telling of lights in the windows of the keep and unearthly sounds carrying miles away from the place. So when Mad Dog here proposed we travel to the place looking for a magical crown once worn by the Emperor himself, I was not really jumping up and down with joy. And for a good reason." The elf took another sip of his wine and took a deep breath. "For although the Aenochians have deserted the fortress and its keep too a long, long time ago, we soon found out that it was from empty…"
Damar's tale goes on for a good half of an hour as he tells of the fate of his companions in close detail. It is clear the ranger is not a charismatic tale-spinner like a bard would be, but even still his story may be quite captivating for those interested in stories with nightmarish events and terrible fates. Although Damar isn't trained in the art of storytelling, he has been listening to and reciting tales for decades as such is the way of his people. In addition to written testimonies, the Aenochian elves have a custom of telling the tales of the ancestors to their children in order to keep the history alive with color and emotion. The tradition ties the people together in a powerful way making those who have already passed into eternity seem closer and more familiar too to those walking in the halls and yards build by their forefathers.

The group that had left Heristat a little less than two months ago had faced trouble ever since they had reached the Sea of Shenal. Their way had been filled with terrible winds reaching the speeds of a full-blown gale, storming rain pouring hailstones large enough to crack a man's skull. The ship's captain had lost three members of his skilled crew to the storm and would've turned back had the rest of his sailor's not voted for sailing onwards. And then there were the pirates… Two black ships had followed and attacked the long ship in the Long Neck only a couple of days before they would've reached the Ostiary. Without the adventurers on board, Mad Dog's ship would have been sunk for sure. But the three mages, three powerful warriors, a cleric and an archer had turned the tide to their favor, but not without a high cost. Maria, the human priestess had been caught unawares by a bolt from a pirate ballista. With her spine broken and heavy internal bleeding and no one else with healing powers, her companions had been powerless to save her. And where they were heading, having a cleric with them would've been vital.

When the damaged longship finally reached the waters surrounding the once powerful fortress, they hit an eerie calmness and silence. The waters that should have been flowing away from the mighty river were running around in circles very slowly leaving the area free of currents. And although there was a plenitude of fishes swimming in the water, there were no seabirds flying around and no cries filling the air… No cries other than the blood-freezing scream cutting through the air like a hot knife through butter when the ship was nearing the calm. There was no sailing to the island and the crew refused to row the ship any closer, so the adventurers were forced to take a rowing boat across the last 500 yards.

Finding the crown had not been easy. On the way Damar had lost three more companions to the undead roaming the halls of the fortress. Zombies and skeletons wearing torn Aenochian rags and carrying rotten and rusty weapons had attacked the group in seemingly endless numbers. With no godly powers to turn and destroy the unearthly monsters, they had really been fighting for their lives. Unfortunately Dolg, a strong dwarven fighter, had been overwhelmed by a dozen or more undead as he had gloriously tried to keep the unarmored magic-wielders safe. His sacrifice had not been in vain, at least not at the time, although one of the two remaining mages had perished too before the group had managed to lock themselves inside the keep. The third one to fall was a northern barbarian called Torg, who was too hasty in opening the small chest containing the crown when they finally reached the small chapel it was located in. The poison had still been very potent after all the years and had reached the warrior's heart in minutes.

And it was then, that all hell broke loose. The remaining members of the group were planning on how to get out and back on the ship safely, when the cry they'd all heard before rang so loud it hurt. The force of the scream was so strong it shattered the healing potion Damar had had in his hand sending shards of glass all around. A ghastly apparition resembling the form of a beautiful, young human female slowly rose through the tiles on the floor. Its eyes were shining with hatred and unnatural power and its phantasmal hands were reached out towards the adventurers. Thanks to his elven blood and reflexes, Damar was first to act. Unlike one the others, and he still didn't know who, the elf was able to move. Too terrified to worry about his companions, Damar made for the closest exit and ran for his life. And he ran and he ran until he reached the outer wall of the fortress. There were probably other, slower undead beings running and crawling behind him trying to catch the ranger and kill him. But the silver-haired elf was totally oblivious to them and only wanted to leave the place at once.

Standing on the wall, Damar regained control of his body and mind and risked a look back. There was no sign of the other people hired by Mad Dog and he could only see waves of slow-moving (fortunately) monsters coming towards him with mindless determination. There was no way he could have reached the gate they had used to enter the place. There was no going back either. The drop from the wall was considerable, but there was a single old tree some 4 meters from the wall. Not wasting another moment, Damar took a few steps back, launched himself into a sprint and jumped…

And he nearly made it. It was a long drop, but fortunately the breaking branches slowed the ranger's fall enough to keep him alive. He did hit the ground shoulder first however and a flash of pain ran through his body. To the elf's great surprise and relief the zombies and the skeletons never followed him down over the wall. It had a been a tormenting row back to the ship with only one arm operational, but what had made it worse were the screams he heard on the way… The screams of his former companions…

The elf remained quiet throughout the rest of the meeting listening carefully to the stories the others had to share and enjoying the meal.

Interlude the Second (Areldor)

Areldor Bears Witness
World of Aihrde
Region of Aachen
City of Heristat
Temple of Minerva
Early Evening on Tuesday
Marrero 16, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

Areldor was still lost in this thought, gazing into the golden flames of the consuming sacrifice of the gold coins, mesmerized by the image of Minerva that seemed to smile upon him from inside the flames, when Tabitha the high priestess of Minerva approached the Illusionist and knelt before him.

When she spoke from this position of reverence, Areldor was somewhat shocked, because he felt that he was the one that should be kneeling before her!

From her kneeling position, she asked him to consider donating his Club to the Temple of Minerva, to put it on permanent display as a 'Testimonial Trophy' for all the faithful worshipers to behold when they entered the temple. It would be a sign to them of how Minerva protects and empowers those who put their trust in her, no matter how insurmountable the odds may seem to be in times of danger.

There would be an appropriate plaque attached to the dais inscribed with the testimonial that Areldor had shared this night, transcribed by the Scribes of Minerva.

She told the Illusionist that he was actually a 'Hero of Minerva' among the Faithful now, so the stunned response from Areldor was a spontaneous, but humble “Yes!”

He handed Tabitha his Club, thinking about how proud his Uncle would be knowing that the Ash Club that he had given to his nephew, when the Illusionist had left home, was now being put on display in the Temple of Minerva for a testimony to all who believe.

Then he wondered what he would do about replacing his Club with a suitable weapon, especially since he had no more gold coins to make any purchases?

Several minutes passed before Tabitha returned with a most unexpected offering to replace the weapon the Illusionist had so willingly handed over to her without question or protest.

She knelt before him and presented him with another Club, slightly larger than the one he had donated, a hybrid Oaken-Ash Club with the image of Minerva engraved in Silver in the 'Sweet Spot' for combating the very Unliving Foes that Areldor had mentioned in his testimonial that the Seekers may undoubtedly be facing in the future!

Minerva Silver War Club does 1d8+2 damage, can be thrown 20 feet and does Double Damage vs Lycanthropes and +4 Damage vs Undead.

Tabitha then stood in front of Areldor and spoke to him of the vision she had received from Minerva regarding the dangers the Illusionist would be facing from both the Living Evil Vermin and the Unliving Foes serving the Evil Taint seeking to spread its influence throughout the lands and regions both far and near!

She reached deep into the pockets of her flowing robes and withdrew a +5 Ring of Protection with the image of Minerva etched in gold on a ruby surface.

Tabitha explained that Minerva spoke to her of the devotion of Areldor and how the Illusionist continually called upon her for help, guidance and protection. Plus how he was diligent to thank her for aiding him and sparing his life, no matter what type of circumstances or how hopeless the situations he was facing!

She was instructed to give the devoted Illusionist both the +5 Ring of Protection and also a Horse Icon of Minerva to aid him in his coming quest for his past and current devotion!

So she reached into the folds of her robes and withdrew the sacred artifact that Minerva had instructed her to lend to the Illusionist for his unwavering faith and devotion to Minerva in the face of impossible odds!

Artifact: Horse Icon of Minerva
The horse icon is a fist-sized, black stallion model. When the command word is said, all the allies of the icon wielder and the wielder are furnished with saddled and war-trained black stallions. No attacks can affect the stallions. The icon is often lent to worshiping wizards who give large sacrifices to the temple.

Tabitha then drew closer and opened her arms to envelop Areldor in a warm embrace, before parting her lips to deliver an extremely passionate kiss to the unsuspecting, but yielding Illusionist, who beheld a vision of Minerva herself in place of Tabitha, as he responded to the lusty gratification.

Then the high priestess of Minerva whispered in his ear the secret command word for activating the Horse Icon of Minerva with specific instructions for when to do so!

Then she withdrew herself from the intimate embrace; still holding his right hand in her left hand, as she pointed with her right hand and outstretched arm towards the dozens of young maidens who were in the Temple of Minerva serving their goddess unashamedly; explaining to the young Illusionist that as a Hero of Minerva, Areldor will have his pick of any of the handmaidens in the Temple of Minerva to take as a bride, when he returns from his adventures in the unknown lands to the west of the Sea of Shenal.

He will be allowed to spend some quality time with any one or more of these handmaidens, before he leaves in almost two weeks; whereby, to get to know them better, possibly choosing one before he leaves to wed upon his return. If he is not interested, none will be offended. They live to devotedly serve their goddess Minerva.

Note from the Castle Keeper:
Areldor has been awarded the Minerva Silver War Club that does 1d8+2 damage, can be thrown 20 feet and does Double Damage vs Lycanthropes and +4 Damage vs Undead; the +5 Ring of Protection; the Horse Icon of Minerva and the opportunity to choose a bride from among the handmaidens in the Temple of Minerva, because of the Consistent Role Play that Ziklag has utilized in his game posts in regards to Areldor worshiping his goddess Minerva!
