Chatting with a farmer

If there are gaps in what Hammer posts, I might be able to fill in gaps if I am in the group approaching the farmer - or our halfling partner as well.

I think we need to tell/ask:

1. An expression of concern and support
2. A general question about the temple and town - just an iced breaker - and confirmation on what things were like in the "good old days"
3. Specific follow up questions about:
*the temple
*most recent disappearancs
*When it all began
*Those who were gone and returned
*Their best guess
*A general - "What are people afraid of?"
*People are hiding at the sight of strangers - they are on a road with travelers - a road that would normally have guards for those travellers (Path through the forest) - why are they afraid of outsiders?
4. A simple, "Wat can we do?"

Food for thought anyway....

How sure are we that the temple is filled with good folks? do we know much about this deity?

Sounds good Nomad

Just stopped by to see what was posted here!

I am working on my entry and can work things out where Oriel can pose those questions after I have broken the ice!

That will give me the opportunity to concentrate on the farmer and the barn to determine whether or not an evil presence is close at hand and threatening the party!

I might add .............................
...yet the fields and food are so prosperous through all this; how do you make that happen?
... why, particularly have the females avoided visitors and run inside?
... how can we help?
... where is the best/safest place to get food, drink, and rest?
... who is in charge in the town? - both formally and informally
... realizing something is amiss, is the town safe to strangers?
..... offer some goild coins for information and a willingmess to help

Re: Plans

Wretch, I posted my thoughts on page 11.

I don't think it's a good idea to play cop and walk around asking people questions. They could be really nice and trusting. But other possibilities include:

1. They think we're bad/lying about our intentions. Farmers do form militias.
2. They don't trust us and provide bad info. After all, we don't really care about them and are just trying to make a buck.
3. They're part of the problem. Worst case scenario, we've just alerted every bad guy in town to come after us.

In the end, it looks like we're playing cop. So I'll roll with it.

I'll head over and investigate 21 (assuming that's the Temple) with the group Darque suggests. I'm still taking note of abandonings and crops that are overgrown, etc.

We should set up a meeting location/time, so we can meet up and compare notes.

Plan

This is what Darque posted already.

"Valerus will wait with the rest of the party, scanning any nearby fields and houses for anything peculiar. He will wait until Gunther and his group return before moving on"

We are waiting for Hammer and his group to post. Then when Trip posts the info they gathered we will decide where we should go and what we should do. I think thats the plan any way.

Darque's plan and post sounds good

I'm staying out of sight of the farmer and keeping my eyes open.

Aside to Oriel

Hopefully we are less than 60' from the barn!

My evil detection range is up to 60' and no more!

Sorry

I am very busy at work today. I don't mind splitting up and going to look at abandoned houses.

Weee!

You guys are doing great.

This is exactly how to do the Board postings. I do want to re-iterate things however. Remember!!! When you split up into your little groups (if you decide to). Your characters CANNOT offer suggestions to other groups. Nor can you. If you see a group going into an obvious trap or doing something that you don't like, guess what? If you are not with that group, you cannot and should not respond either in IM's, emails, etc.. That is what makes this game so fun.

Also, people may have played or been on this particular adventure before. Please, please please, I beg you do not push the group in a certain way if you know the outcome of an action or situation. I realize it is a hard thing to do, to play along, if you already know the outcome. But I WILL be watching for those things. And if I see it, bad, bad things may happen to you ;-) I would love for the people who have never played this adventure to be able to find out every little twist and turn and suprise. I am not saying you can't act normal and play and have fun, but if you k now the outcome of a situation, try to let the rest of the group figure it out if you already know.

For instance. Not saying this is in the adventure but if you all are walking down a hallway and no one is aware of anything and there is a cunning trap coming up or a group of orcs around the corner in ambush. And all of a sudden someone speaks out. Humm, my guy all of a sudden goes to the back of the group and gets in a defensive stance. Or My guy just out of the blue decides to halt the group and check for traps all of a sudden. You gonna pay ;-)

groups

So the rest of the people standing by the wagon or whatever can no longer make suggestions to the group that went to talk to the farmer? Make sense. Hope we can all remember that.

I would like to suggest that we give each group a title or # if we seperate. We can add that the to the subject of the post so other groups dont accidently add anything when they shouldnt be.

Groups Good Advice Wretch

That is good advice Wretch and what I like about this is I can participate actively within my group, read what the others are doing as if I were reading a book or watching a movie and then when I get with the other members of the party who I was separated from I must role play like I have no idea what has happened to them and then have to catch up on old times!

A few notes

I will post later tonight to give people a chance to come in and post as well.

Also going to post a bit about a few things people may not know or wondered about.

Paladin Detect Evil INTENT The name of the paladin ability is Detect Evil Intent. A lot of people think that this means you detect a persons alignment but that is far from the case. You could have a chaotic evil person standing right in front of you drinking ale and you would detect nothing. Why? Because at the time that person has no evil intentions. You are detecting evil intent in characters or creatures. Now there may be some overwhelming evil creature like an ancient red dragon that would constantly exude evil 100% of the time because of the vile and evil that it has done and will do forever, but that is not the case most of the time.

The only thing you will be able to determine using this ability is the intentions of someone getting ready to commit evil. i.e. if a group of orcs was moving towards you but you weren't sure if they were going to attack. If thier intentions were to attack or commit an evil attack it would show. Or if the group of orcs was intending to pass you by, but rape and kill the group of nuns at the inn they were walking to, that would also show. If the group of orcs were just going to go to bed after a long day of pillaging, that would NOT show. Its all about intentions. Yes the orcs are evil. Would it show up in the paladin ability? No.

Hopefully that helps people understand the ability a bit better.

Weapon Specialization. I think I mentioned this before but I will bring it up again. Weapon Specialization was meant for WARRIORS only. Not rangers, or paladins or any other class. It was specifically made to get warriors to have an ability of their own. Paladins get their own powers, rangers theirs and so on. Warriors have no powers at all except for their skill at arms. Why make a warrior at all if you give the ability to specialze to a paladin? Or a ranger? A paladin could essentially be exactly like the warrior AND have all the cool abilites. That was not the intention of specialization. Its intention was to give warriors a bit of an edge in combat, which it should.

What else.. I think there was something else I wanted to put but can't remember right now..

Groups

I have mastered the technical wizardry of pen and paper. I actually have a sheet of notebook paper that I carry in my shirt pocket that has party notes on it. That way I can keep up at work and at home (and I don't have to keep referring back to the other posts on names, class, race, and who is playing what character). The early suggestions I made assigned the groups numbers 1, 2, and 3. We can stick with that or change it if everyone feels so led.

I have personally never played this adventure, so everything is new to me. I do hope, like Trip, that anyone who has played it will not ruin it for the rest of us who have not had the privilege.
