Subsistence is what exploration is all about
The explorers of Canada did not carry as much as you are reffering to, and had to go much further with what they had. It came down to foraging/hunting/trapping for food as a staple.
Granted no one REALLY wants to be, roleplay, or reinact the first explorers... because scurvy, dehydration, poor moral, and other shiza. Just saying we can extend our resources to explore this area.
Now that I think about it: we should work on exploring the river next. We should get a canoe ordered and hire a proffesion (sailor) to help us out with that. Thats how actual explorers worked - since river routs were the most convienant method of travel (albiet limited in direction).
Though perhaps there are tales of a Ogopogo living in the waters and we dont want to sail/canoe around in the rivers? IDK...

Voyageurs
Hopefully more than one of them knew how to hunt, however XD though I concede the horses probably don't need a full day's feed every day if we take it slow enough to go hunting and take the time to munch a bit. For the record, if we were going to go out without the wagon one day, our travel time would be nearly halved.
Also since this is Pathfinder, approximately 90% of the natives are automatically hostile as opposed to helpful unless provoked and entirely willing to trade supplies. Also there was no chance of them running face-long into a pack of trolls if any of them went hunting alone for a day, though I'm pretty sure bears and unhappy locals took a good number down.
You're right, though, about the details of enacting the exploration and settling of the new country--I certainly hope more than 5 settlers survive the first winter, but then we're only a hope skip and a jump away from our own country, from which we can order supplies if we so desire.
But realistically I don't actually know that much of Canadian History. That teaching was from an era before I discovered that words meant things when you put them in order and sometimes those things are supposed to be listened to.
Meanwhile I'm pretty sure I've not actually given folk much to respond to, so after I finished the vacuuming I'll be moving on this recent post. The tree may be useful if anyone can climb (hint, if I recall correctly, Miguel could actually get into Oleg's post over the wall just by Taking 10) to have a good vantage of the entire hex, but other than that there's no point in really pretending anyone's interested in the tree until we can stop pretending we don't know what it's full of.
EDIT: I know there was something I was going to edit in, but I can't remember what, but instead I'll note that Oleg chose his border fort because there are no rivers nearby, so the traffic in and out would never get too heavy (which was another one of the reasons he was not pleased to find himself on the edge of a soon-to-be-colonized country chewing up his wilderness).

I know most stuff happens on Skype...
But I am at work. What does Frodrick know about thylacines?
B/c I know that they are relativley harmless. I also know that for budding sorcerers, they are awesome to have as intimidating pets!

Temperate Hills basically describes most dwarf natural environments, too.
Frodrick's perhaps seen a few out on the hills in passing before. They are typically small, carnivorous, and preferring to avoid confrontation. They usually avoid settlements, but hunger can drive them to strike outlying farms.
Of course the kind Frodrick is used to seeing occasionally when he heads out are only just over two feet tall, and barely four feet long plus tail. This one almost stands as tall as he does at the shoulder.
Kyrie, meanwhile, may have heard a number of things about the vicious little monsters who wait until a farmer is asleep before slaughtering some of their livestock and who kidnap naughty children and gobble them up whole with their huge mouths (usually accompanied by a demonstration of just how wide these mouths are).

Frodrick
neither helps it, nor shows signs of aggression. He will let it do as it will.

My Thoughts...
On Post a post at the post you newb rubes! is that Frodrick really is a bad ass. Old man-dwarf calls out a farmer for offending him, gives a second chance, and is still playing to the code of "Order of the Dragon".
I also like how I seem to have naturally aligned Frodrick with Lawful Nuetral in regards to killing. This is not to say that I had to write Frodrick into a specific alignment, but rather that a specific alignment perfectly reflected Frodrick's ideals and personality. It was very satisfying looking at this post after putting it up and noticing how Frodrick has an organic feel to him: he is not forced to into any particular role or alignment. This is not always the case with me.
Butterflies in my tummy from excitement. I want to post more about more stuff with Frodrick. I might just start writing a lame novella about him in this campaign for de lolz.

Loot to be hocked or pawned or whatever you want (or kept)
Oh yeah, there's a few details
-Masterwork Dagger sells for 151 G
-Spellbook sells for 32.5 G
-Ring I think someone was interested in keeping
-Wand is identified by Jhod as a wand of Burning Hands with 4 remaining charges at CL 2. I can't remember the exact limitations, but mages are capable of using this, if they choose, or selling it for (oh bugger me, I have no idea)

EDIT: Okay, I found the price. Wand sells for 60G (depreciating by 15G for every charge expended). Base price for a fresh would be 1500G, so cut that by 4/50 charges and then again for resale value. Done. Now I gotta go to work.

Haha, yo
Just wanna throw a huge NSFW tag on I think it was the second one. I totally just opened those in the middle of a (relatively uncrowded) computer lab at the U of C and damn was I startled.

Sup. One Essay Down
I don't suppose you've seen, but on the Skype conversation I had defaulted to 'go left' like we had the first time around way back when. That said, in light of actual leadership decisions, right it shall be. With what sounds like the exception of Frodrick in the lead we'll go in Marching Order into the room at the end of the tunnel... when I have the freedom to post as such

Tartuk Loot
Loot
-Wand
-Small mwk Cold Iron Sickle
-Bracers
-Journal (+Scroll)
-Soiled Leather Bag
---(containing: plain bronze ring w/ pearl, pouch of dust, 321 silver, 249 gold, 13 platinum ~412.1G)
Not among the loot, but scattered in the treasure pile for you to beg an extra bargain from, if you dare:
-A lot of quartz/mica crystals, bits of metal, shiny useless junk
-Unusual Bolts x7
-Fine Boots
-If anybody cares/dares to pull down from it's floating position, the mwk Light Metal Shield
Miguel uses Detect Magic and through a combination of Knowledge (arcane) and Spellcraft identifies the following magical items out of the loot
-Wand of Magic Missile CL 3 (27 charges) – Faint Evocation
-Bracers – Moderate Aura ???
-Scroll of Fly CL 5 (in journal) – Faint Transmuation
-Dust – Moderate Aura ???
(Non-Loot Magic)
-Shield (unless removed from spell effect suspending the other items, in which case it has no aura)
-Flaming Bolts +1 – Moderate Evocation
-Boots of Elvenkind – Faint Transmutation
Examining the bracers—they're green, leather, and etched with small runes. Examining the pouch of dust, it's a chalky white powder, but as you look at it, whether a trick of refraction, it changes colour.

the next phase of the plan
I suggest we make our way abck to Oleg's but explore a couple forest hexes along the way. I am kinda hoping we run into the boar Tuskgutter along the way.
