Probably my favorite table-top character was my original Dwarven Fighter. He started out under the basic D&D rules and was migrated to 2nd Edition. He had gone through some bizarre modules including a module called Castle Amber (basic) where he had massive stat changes done to him, all to his benefit.
Later in life, after the transfer to 2nd edition, he acquired a set of Mithril Plate Mail and a Mithril shield (+4 each) and a +4 throwing Axe that returned when thrown and if under the Moon and Stars (ie: not underground, or under a cloudy sky) would strike 2 targets before returning.
I had to stop collecting magic items for him, because he was overpowered for a long time because of all this. Eventually he balanced out with the rest of equal level parties, but he was a tank, pure and simple. Give him something to fight, and he'd be the first one to wade in. He was a blast to play.
I actually wish I could get him back into a game again, but I DM most of the time...
