Agreed!

I certainly don't intend to stress you out or overburden you Shield, but if you do have one handy, I'd love to see a map! For now I'm mostly excited to get this thing going! who else is playing and what are we looking at for characters? Also, I would be interested in getting a little bit of role-play going, just to see how the characters play up against each other, when is our estimated launch date you think?

Don't want to step on any toes...

I don't imagine it would be breaking many purity codes to fire up a little interaction, that said I do want to wait for Shield to set the scene, I don't know anything about where we'll be starting, and I wouldn't want to make assumptions (like we're in a metropolis, when in fact we're in a small town) in our interaction which might lead to the need for re-writes. I still want to give y'all a proper write-up but for now I'll just tell you that he is a Human Druid. Should be an interesting concept with your character!

sounds awesome

Don't see any reason why the two of em should be friendly... unless your character is from P.E.T.A or something... you know, the whole ranching/ cow wrangling thing. Lolz

A few answers

First off, Malvarin is what the DMG classifies as a Large City, and is a port with the primary exports and services offered being fish and transport beyond the Mage Scar that seperates their region from the majority of the continent. I haven't quite worked out the major details about power centers, politics, religion, or any of the other fun flavor bits, just set the stage for where the group would be based.

Feel free to chit chat in and out of character, even if just in a tavern scene, or down by the docks even. Don't be afraid to assume anything at this point, as it is already assumed that the group knows each other anyway.

I've got a map made up of the world and the general area in which we'll be staying while in the low levels, I just haven't managed to finish it, or find a host for that matter as I've been busy with work and other things.

DB, I'll be replying to your PMs shortly, sorry for the delayed response.

Nice

Nice. Well, I am to play a goblin Fighter by the name of **** (need to find my character sheet again).
Soldier malgré lui. Trained with spears, shields, and all the rank and file soldiering.

phalanx fighter

every group should have one rofl.

Also seems kinda nice that we have 1 buffer/healer, 1 range based fighter, and 1 melee based fighter. SO if we want, I could set up a small scenario for us to begin roleplaying:

It was pouring violently outside. With harsh winds and waves that threatened to overtake the docks, many a sailor was out at his station, making sure that his vessel would not get beached or sunk in the midst of this off season storm.

But to those who were not of the sailing proffesion, the heat and security of a home or inn was very comfortable. At the Morning Summit, business was booming. With traders having no where to go, and no one was outside to trade, they were stuck indoors buying food, drink, and entertainment.

It is about 2 in the afternoon when the door blows open. Everyone turns to see who let all the heat out, and they see a young man oddly dressed come stalking through the door. He takes a moment, but he manages to close the door, which the wind tried to keep open.

"There is no vacancy sir." Called a midsized man from the otherside of the commonroom: the inn keep of this establishment.

"I don't suppose you do sir." Calls the newcomer. "But I had made reservations at this here establishment some weeks ago. Three rooms were paid for in advance, along with a stable stall."

The man nods his head and raises his lip in a thoughtful aknowledgement. "Richard Denim Eastwood I pressume?" He asks.

The young man, who had his face hidden under a long brimmed hat, moves the brim up with a gloved pointer finger, as he also does a casual salute. His baby-blue eyes give a genuine cheer that brightens the dark room, and his smile is sincere. "That I be sir. My four-legged companion is still outside a shiverin' away..."

The man cuts Richard off. "I will get one of my hands to tend to it.

Richard waves both of his open palmed hands to gesture calmness to the man. "Now sir, I don't need all your attention, and I don't need one of your boys to do all the work. Me and Cardinal go way back, and I would prefer to deal with him myself, but if you can send someone to the stable to prep his stall with some feed and water, that would be mighty fine."

The man nods in agreement, and Richard heads outside to bring his mustang Cardinal to the stall where he can have a well deserved rest. But before he leaves, Richard makes one last note.

"I know some off you might take offence to one of my friends who will be staying here. But I will warn you now, I do not accept no disrespect unless it is fully deserved. Keep your mouths shut and your weapons in your sheaths..." And with that , he was gone to brave the storm for a little while longer.

OOC: I am presumming goblins might still be the target of racism to other races. Hence I brought it up. If ths not the case, then I will remove it.

racism

Yes there will still be some people harboring a hatred for Goblin-kin, but there are also still Goblin-kin harboring hatred for other races, so it goes both ways. Most people though will not attack a goblin with witnesses around, preferring instead to lure the Goblin into attacking first, then claiming self defense which most witnesses will back..

Set up, pre game intros

Across the Tavern, in a dimly lit corner sits a familiar Half-Elf most of you recognize pretty quickly as your "sponsor" for lack of a better word, Ladnar Stoneshield, aka The Wolf. He rises as you approach the table, and greets you all with a slight salute, "Good to see you managed to brave the storm to get here for this meeting. You may be wondering why I've called you all here, especially in this horrendous weather, but I assure you its good news. After months of extensive searching and haggling I have managed to procure a base of operations for The Wolf Pack, our own Den if you will." He pauses for a moment to gauge reactions, then continues without waiting for any verbal responses, "Now it needs some work, a bit of a personal touch, and some furnishings to be a proper base, but we'll get it done in no time." With that he passes out hand drawn maps that will lead you to the warehouse he mentioned and advises you each to get there once the storm has passed, which may be a couple days yet still. With his little speech complete he takes his seat again and returns to sipping on his drink, waiting to hear what the others think.

((We'll actually start the game with the meeting at the "Den" once I get the last few characters in, it will be assumed that any character submitted will also have been given a map, either now or at the time of their recruitment in order to find the Den.))

Tip of the hat

After making sure Cardinal was settled in for the storm, Richard strode back in and had a better look around the common room. After scanning the tables, he found the person he was looking for. He had not met the half-elf before, but since he stood up and saluted Richard, it could only be presumed that he was the one.

Richard made his way to the table and with his right hand he tipped his hat as a friendly gesture: its what his family always did when they met each other, and he continued the custom with his friends and comrades.

"Afternoon sir." Richard started. "Supposin' that your the acclaimed lone wolf looking to make new pack?"

With greetings exchanged, Richard sat down with a smile, and ordered a well-done steak and a glass of milk (If this Iron age has the technology, he will instead order a soda; though this was not invented in our world until early 1800s, so it is up to you whether it is available or not).

Richard "Kid" Denim then slings his backpack off and takes off his brown leather trench coat. The first he puts by his feet, while the latter he hangs up on his chair to dry. Rummaging through his backpack, he pulls out a deck of playing cards and some dice. "Care to play somethin' while we wait for everyone else? I don't gamble, but my pa' taught me a ton of games that don't need no coin to be fun..." Richard then starts to shuffle the deck, smiling innocently all the while.

But while he was in mid shuffle, his eyes glanced off to one corner of the room, and his facial expression instantly changed for a second, and the cards went flying everywhere. His expression soon goes back to the smile, but it is obvious something has disturbed him.

(If asked what is wrong)
"I thought I saw an old aquaintance, but one that I would rather not meet ever again."

Kid peers back to the corner he had looked at before, but no one was there. A shiver crawls up his spine, but he tries to hold in his sense of fear, this of course is not effective, since Richard is aloof when it comes to lying, deceiving, or masking the truth. He silently goes about to pick up his 54 cards that are now scattered around him.

Once the cards are picked up, and to be done at any time at the inn...
Richard Denim continues to play games wither by himself, or with others at the table, stopping only to eat his steak and give a wink and mild-mannered look-sie at a serving woman or any other females at the in who may look pretty to him. Even when business is underway, Richard will continue to fiddle and fidget: he is paying attention, but he acts childish due to his lack of social interaction and experience.

(OOC: how much does he know about the other characters? Are they long-time companions, or merely acquainted with each other? I presumed that at least the Goblin character will be a friend of Richard's, since he is really standing up for him, but that can be altered...)

well..

((Actually, Ladnar personally invites every member, so yes you had met him before. I've been working with the assumption that everyone has been in the city for a while, where he can watch and observe them, get to know things about them before inviting. I've assumed from the start that at the very least the PCs have known each other about a week or two, and you all arrived at this particular tavern at around the same time..))

he's almost as good as me

Seemingly stepping out of the air, an older looking human man in a dark cloak sits down at Richard's table with a grin.

"You part of the Wolf-pack too?"

He looks around, not waiting for an answer.

"I expect we'll meet you again soon."

And with that he's gone into the crowd.

-If you happen to catch him around and ask him his name, its Aiden Stormbringer. And that's all you'll get out of him for now.-

OOC: Not sure how to join in... i'll do better in response to the next post, promise.

Hey Chess!

Hey Chess! Happy to see you've joined the game! What I find works when I don't know how to join in the RPing or there hasn't been much groundwork lain for conversation or extensive posting yet is I begin to delve into what I know best about the situation: my own character. I personally don't actually know what you're playing chess and would love to hear more about it! Maybe you could add a description about your character to the post? Also, just because he looks like he appears and disappears from and into thin air to us doesn't mean you can't describe where he actually goes to, we'll all play along and not be able to tell don't worry!

Also maybe just add some thoughts, what makes the dude tick, what's he think about, what's his groove, where's his grind at, you know, that type of stuff! Either way, glad to see we have another player/character on board and I can't wait to hear more about him!

Getting over nasty illness, I've got a bit of work still required of me in character creation but when that's done, I'll jump in the fun!!
