Lore
Born of the Waithur people, Skithyas Vord found himself at the forefront of the brutal conflict between the Ungoulids and Khord that had been raging for centuries, millenia before his birth. Raised in the totality of war, Vord was comforted by the simple truths it brought, the sense of direction and purpose he could derive from his dire surroundings.
Raised, like the rest of his generation, as warriors, Vord learnt early on that his purpose was to protect. To the Waithur that meant killing anything that wasnt Ungoulid and lived underground. Without morality to hinder him, Vord set about his goal with brutal efficiency. Too tall to be an effective front line fighter in the twisted confines of the caverns the conflict raged through, Vord used his nimbleness and brute strength to force or climb his way through passages that his more diminutive kin and foes could not reach and lay in wait for retreating enemy patrols or squads or lone scouts, slaying those who had escaped the Waithur's wrath.
It was these physical attributes that made Vord such a lethal killer that ultimately led to his downfall. Soon shunned by his people for his individualism and, increasingly, his tendency to pursue targets well beyond the Ungoulid’s borders, Vord sought solace in the only thing left form him, his purpose. He would disappear for days upon end, sometimes weeks before reappearing, usually during a tribal ritual, bearing the grisly trophies of his work. This in turn led to a fateful encounter in a frozen gallery where Vord, having clung for a day and a night from the ceiling, dropped onto his quarry, the Khord Chieftan’s son, slaying him instantly with the impact. Slipping past the guards in the ensuing confusion, Vord was pursued deep into Khord lands, cut off from his people.
To Vord’s horror what should have been the crowning achievement in his career instead backfired horribly as the Khord chieftain, driven into a rage of unreason, sent messengers to his fellow clans, offering the now vacant position of his heir to any fellow lord or king who would pledge the most troops to his aid. As Vord watched from his hidden passages, his people were slaughtered by a remorseless host of Khord who then turned upon each other for the crown.
Three months later, a blackened creature emerged from the Kleis Chasm in Coria, in broken common it found its way to Coria city. Over the course of the next year the city watch found itself investigating a chain of sporadic killings, corrupt merchants and bankers, smugglers and other untouchable enemies of the law.
Recently, such cases have stopped as Vord has moved from the city upon hearing of a darkness spreading from the mountains. Reborn in the light of day, the Ungoulid has a new purpose, to expunge his sins in the only way he knows how, with knife claw and fang.
