Probably not, thanks...

To be honest I’m not sure it’s likely to make a vast difference since a dice pool of seven should, on average, roll about two successes. Also, it’ll be a lot easier for me to write something up when I know from the start how many words Hiram has to play with rather than ending each post with a fairly long OOC note. (If Hiram rolls one success he will say… if he rolls two successes he will say…)

Should he need to have an in depth conversation with another character he’ll probably just possess someone for the duration of the scene.

This is probably a stupid question but...

Would it be possible for Hiram to use Possession on someone while they're asleep in order to experience what they're dreaming about first hand?

Or to use Phantasm to influence what they see and hear when they dream?

Ehm...

Vorrioch, I'd say that Hiram could not possess someone to affect or view that person's dreams. Perhaps there would be another Numen that could do that.

Jenth, I like your post. I specially noticed the Ordul part which I bet is supposed to be the Ordo Dracul, but sounds like a personal shortening or something
Loved that.
Note that speaking to the Prince without being spoken too would normally be considered an insult, but seeing as it was all compliments on her beauty I'm letting you get away with it (you are lucky that she loves compliments on her looks). Just keep in mind that the vampiric nobles at least don't like it normally unless from another noble.

I'm giving you two a bonus point each for good posts. Syanide, you'll have work a little harder on your posts. I know I didn't give you much to work with and I am sorry about that; I was very distracted while writing the vampire part. But spelling and more description would improve your posts a lot.

I'm going to update tomorrow (Sunday) around noon GMT, or Monday, so if you want to change your posts you can do so until then.

Update 01

So I've updated. It isn't as much as I would have liked but hopefully you can work with it.

But sure thing, man. Just PM me a character once you are ready with one.

...

Skari-Dono, I’ve just looked over Ghost Stories again and I'm guessing that you’re referring to the Dement Numen?

Basically what I had hoped to be able to do with Phantasm is allow Hiram to project scenes from his own memory into the dreams of those around him as a means of communication and to foreshadow events in his haunting… rather than to as a means of direct attack to drive them insane.

I’d thought of Hiram as a character with a story to tell and revealing some of the key events of his life through the dreams of those still living seemed the most entertaining way to do this. I also quite liked the idea that whatever supernatural menace is currently menacing Longchester might not be the only being with an interest in taking control of its residents' dreaming. That said he's hardly short of things to do already and it's not exactly going to break the character if you'd prefer not to allow this.

Actually...

I was not talking about the Dement Numen. What I meant was that if you want to haunt somebody's dream in a way that suits you the best, there might be a Numen that does exactly that, or if not then we could simply make one.

And another thing. I have my reasons for having the Asylum reopened and I remember telling you (in a PM) that my reasons would include you better than having the place closed into the story I had in mind. I am not going to reveal anything yet since I think it would be more fun if I didn't (I love making players go "AHAH!" when the plot is revealed ).

I am going to rule that possession does not allow you to invade other people's minds or dreams and the people you would possess do can not invade your mind or memory. Another Numen is required to do so.

You know...

I've always voted for creativity

That is one of the great things about RPGs: If there is something you don't like, change it; if there is something missing, create it.

(Well, OK, those are actually two great things about RPGs, but who's really counting? )

Both good ideas, but...

I would really prefer if we would keep character-creation related stuff to the recruiting thread, the game related chit-chat to the Q/A thread and IC posts to the gaming thread. I'm just that weird.

Back to the point though, both of these ideas are completely valid and good ideas really. Of course, if you want to play something else, you can play almost anything you can think of from nWoD line (Vorrioch is playing a Ghost). If you want to play a vampire, that is great too. Just remember that we are using Vampire the Requiem, not Masquerade.
I suggest that you check the two vampire characters already in the game and see what kind of character is needed in that group.

Other than that, any concept can be used in this story.

Update 02

Another update for vampires and ghost. Hope I gave you something to work with.

And here's a list of the things in this Armory:

Melee Weapons 3 Bowie Knives (2L)* (can be used as a crafts tool)
1 Combat Knife (1L)*
2 Trench Knives (1L/B)* (doubles as brass-knuckles**)
3 Gladius swords (2L)*
2 Long swords (3L)*
4 Machetes (2L)*
Revolvers 2 .357 Magnum (3)*** (30/60/120) (holds 6 bullets)
Handguns 4 Glock 17 (2)*** (20/40/80) (clip holds 17+1 bullets)
Rifles 5 Spencer Repeating Carbine (3)*** (75/150/300) (7+1)
Assault Rifles 3 Colt M16 (4)*** (150/300/600) (30+1)
Shotguns 2 Winchester Model 1897 (4)***(9 again) (20/40/80) (6+1)
1 RSA Saiga 12k (4)***(9 again) (20/40/80) (8+1)
Explosives 10 Standar Frag Grenades (2L+3)° (Blast area 10) (Knockdown)
Armor 10 Bullet-proof Vests (2/3; Defense -1)°°

*Add Strength+Melee for total dice-pool
**Add Strength+Brawl for total dice-pool
***Add Dexterity+Firearms for total dice-pool (also deals Bashing damage to the undead)
°Explosives are thrown. Grenades are usually too heavy to bounce. Explosives always 'act' last, so characters might escape the blast zone. Grenades deal 3L damage to anyone within the Blast area and additional 2L to anyone standing next to it. Anyone within the blast area are automatically knocked down and knocked back as many yards as damage dealt.
°°Armor have two armor-ratings, one for general attacks and one for attacks with firearms. The rating before the slash is for most attacks (clubs, swords, thrown items) and the second is for firearms. However, some armor also lower your Defense rating, in this case with a -1 penalty. This armor is also bulletproof, that is it transforms Lethal damage by firearms into Bashing (something vampires don't need to worry about).

I just made up those Explosive rules since I don't find them in the book in front of me. If I do find the rules I'll edit this bit.

You guys should note that I am being very generous here but also note that the Sheriff does not intend you to own these weapons. They are just loaned for the duration of the hunt.

And another thing

I added some more Houserules. I also edit the Houserules post on the first page so you can find it there. I intend to later delete this post to make space, but you now know what I added in.

Scoring 5 or more successes on attacks (an Exceptional Success) upgrades the damage dealt by one stage. So Bashing becomes Lethal and Lethal becomes Aggravated. This is to show that the attack caused greater damage than it normally should (bones break, important organs are damaged, limbs severed, etc.)

Celerity loses part of its boost since there isn't any Initiative (normally, you add your Celerity points to your Initiative roll) and so Celerity as a whole has lost part of its usefulness. To even things out, every point of Celerity allows you to attack one additional time per 'round'. Normally, you only get to attack once without the use of Merits or some other powers, but with this Houserule you can to the limit of your Composure or Resolve, which ever is lower. So if you have Celerity 3 but your Resolve is only 2 you only get two actions total (+1 action).

Resilience has felt a little powerless to me and so I came up with this more potent solution: In addition to all bonuses that you get from Resilience, it also transforms Lethal damage into Bashing the same way it turns Aggravated into Lethal (one level per point) and also turns Bashing into nothing the very same way.
