To amuse myself, I should probably fire up another game. Of course, both of the ones I should run fall under the SHALL NOT BE NAMED label.
Anyone hear from Reralae lately?

Oh... please be kind to Ken... I'm getting so nervous waiting...
And Rer... I miss her. No I haven't heard from her, but since I've been AWOL that isn't surprising.
And ohh... game... although I'd have to slow down a little on Fates, which has become a bit more than an obsession lately.

Reralae
I see her logged in on Discord fairly often but I haven't actually talked to her in a bit.
I like the SHALL NOT BE NAMED label... just sayin'.

We may need to reach out to her in Discord, then!

Give me the facts ma'm, just the facts.....
Ok so I got a little techy...but needed to establish some "facts" to build on. I tossed it to C2P and we go further from there.
Let me know if my post needs edited.

I'll be real: I have no idea what I'm looking at with any of this Star Trek tech or even just basic physics stuff, so any wiki links to help a girl out with research would be appreciated.
@Olan, Einar and I are still around obvs so I'm always down for getting started on That Which Shall Not Be Named. This time I even know how to play DnD too.
Will catch up with the game thread and let my TAC chief's thoughts be heard here.

I have a series of links that help me with stuff like this.
I hope it helps.
I used to play Asovil and dive into her department's science by hitting science blogs and paraphrasing or working premises into the posts. Star Trek is notorious for scraping the surface of science but then going their own way with it, so I none of us will judge.

At the risk of sounding like I'm trying to tell you all how to play (which I'm not), a few items occur to me in terms of dealing with the asteroid:
Destroy it via phaser/torpedo. We have the capacity, but I don't know that we could do it and those actions not be known by Starfleet (not sure how closely they'd audit us) or Calican II.
Break it up via the same. Likely less noticeable.
Redirect it. My science/space geek son is freaking out that we don't just push it out of the currect trajectory with a shuttle, or even with the ship itself.
Theoretically, you could get cute with, say, banking a smaller rock into it to again redirect the big one.
I'm sure I'm overlooking some solutions.

Ideas
I lean toward the redirect it. Less likely to have any major ramifications and/or notice by Starfleet or the Callicans. Probably also the easiest... we are in a time crunch.
Also... there have alredy been issues with the memory banks on the Peregrine after Chimera, so whose to say that the earlier scans of the trajectory made by the Peregrine don't somehow become corrupted in the process of trying to fix the memory banks.... Oh Kennedy is just going to dig herself deeper and deeper... But basically... who knows what the original trajectory was...
Once she's certain that Drake isn't going to throw her in the brig for lying to him she's likely to make that suggestion. I've just been holding on until she gets a pass from the Captain before doing anything further.

Speed...
This was an interesting article... www.csmonitor.com/Science/2018/0817/How-to-deflect-an-asteroid-hurtling-toward-Earth
Maybe all we need to do is give it a push, or a tug... so the planet and it won't line up when the time comes.
Or we could paint it white and see what happens... I lean toward the tug, maybe a tractor beam on it for a few hours, it won't stop it but if it slows it down enough the planet passes out of if's path before it hits...
Hmm....

We can fix this........
Maybe science could track where the asteroid came from to tell if its flight was altered, maybe by Star Fleet?
Or Federation mining? Something caused by the Federation that we can fix?
(or at least it could look like the Federation did it and we are obligate to fix the error...just check with the CSO....)
Just saying............

FWIW
One of Tochi's suggestions was to push/pull the asteroid off course via the tractor-tow/pressor push method. Peregrine swoops in on one side and gets ahold of the space-brick with a tractor beam, two or three shuttles flank the other side and hit it with pressors (i.e. inverted tractor beams), and the asteroid gets dragged off course.
The torpedoes were considered in the event that the pull/push method needed a bit of pepper.
