~sigh~ Hard to explain
As far as Maximus, Arien and the 1st CWWLLO I am.
I don't know how to explain in writing how much the 1st CWWLLO meant to me. It was the first game at the Inn I came to love and to this point my favorite of all that I have played. It may sound stupid and selfish but I miss it and wish IT more then CWWLLO2 was the game we were getting ready to restart. I had been at the Inn by that time for a little over two years and lot of things happened during that game Roger, Olan. I made good friends, I became part of the staff, I was just starting to be able to work again, the Inn truly to me became my second home and Trilogy was in full gear and going strong. It was one of the best times in my life after the risk of dying from something I had no control over. Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to this game so I apologize if I'm bringing drama into it right now. If the world were to end and god said "Al you can take 6 memories with you, one of those would be CWWLLO and the time it was run.
I know like I said sounds childish right it was just a PBP game. Sorry.

well
Tann, that's cool. We're all glad that it meant that much to you. Hey, I **LOVED** the original CWWLLO. Al the killer DM, the vivid bad guys, the storytelling, etc.
Just keep it all in perspective. There is some undetermined period of years between that game and this one. If we ever decide to do a timeline, we'll have to hash that out, but this is meant to be a one shot game. It really, honestly, does not matter how old Maximus is now. Either way, there have been more than enough years for him to have adventured and gained his levels.
Remember, though, that the DM's word *is* law. If you absolutely want to be playing the exact same guy you were playing back then, but your timeline doesn't add up with the DM's... edit your timeline.
Change your age, change the events. Heck, this is a high magic world, maybe Maximus ended up in some alternate reality for a while where time flows differently.
Or, just hand wave it. It really doesn't matter. Again, nobody cares how old Arien is. No offense, but we also don't care hold old Maximus is.
Just focus on the game at hand.

okay
I am very glad to hear that enjoyed CWWLLO that much and I am honoured you consider it as a cherished memory. Unfortunately, time marches on and I had to let CWWLLO end because I lost too many players and I had too little time. Having an autistic son takes a lot out of my personal time so the fact is I shouldn't really be involved in 4 games but I do so because I love the inn and the game.
This adventure takes place 12ish years after the second CWWLLO adventure where the Tower fell, the Green Goddess possessed Arien's sister and Arien killed the Commander of the Green Imperial forces by running his flaming sword though his eye socket. S0 this would make Max 44ish years old. In the 12 years you became a thief; adventured elsewhere in the world with other people and five years ago all of this party ran through "White Plume Mountain" and killed an undead dragon. I have not penalized anyone in the party for age because frankly, I didn't want to.
So if you want to tweak your background to fit that, so be it. No problem. But I want to move forward. I do not want to put a lot of time or effort into backgrounds because this is just a funny one shot adventure. I mean - I am sending you through Tomb of Horror which I changed because I thought it was too wimpy in the original form. Thank about that for a second. There are ToH support groups out there.

heh
The guy has already warned us to expect a fatality rate of 50%. This from the GM who has a record of being deadlier than me, though he claims to not be a player killer.
Which means the fatality rate is going to be somewhere between 80% and TPK.

Excuse me!!!!
My DM body count at the Inn is 1. One Mage who flew to face warriors with less than 20 hit points.
Olan killed three PC in one room during Meanwhile while I was playing. He killed more before I joined.
Who is the Killer DM here Mr. Sudden Death.????

What?!?!?
I'm the only victim of Alacrity's DMitutde on the site?!?!?!
Yay! I'm SPECIAL!!!
Also... back on topic... Tann - no one is trying to lessen what CWWLLO meant to you or anything along those lines. In fact, that game is one that will hold a special place in my own little gamer's heart, too, due to the fact that (I believe) that was the first D&D game I ever played here at the Inn and the first D&D game in which I was ever convinced to play a mage. (Something I've started to become rather fond of these days, truth be told.) Plus, that was the impetus for me ending up on the staff and laying the groundwork for true friendship with many of the Innmates hereabouts (yourself included). All that's being said is that, with the one-shot nature of this game, details like age and super-involved backstories are kind of neither here nor there.
As Olan said, if you want to put that much thought into it, please feel free... Hell, I'm kind of putting more and more thought into "this version" of Jarenion as we go along, myself, just on the off chance he survives and somehow manages to find himself in another adventure to come buuuuut I'm not letting those flashes of errata effect the game as it stands unless/until Alacrity decides it matters. Right now, I'm just focussing on spell management and making sure I have enough HP before I go flying off into the face of danger again.

Deaths
Heck Tann has killed about everyone in Trilogy Wars at least once. We look at death as a kind of "time out" rather than an end in that game.

Okay
Thanks for the clarification describing the Torch Bearer!
I will not be able to post 'In Game' until my laptop returns from being 'Mind Wiped' and 'Reloaded' as I only have a Very Limited Access to the laptop of a Friend.

grrr
Is it just me, or does the skincrow torchbearer seem worse than an enemy?
I may be paranoid, but this just feels so wrong.

Creepy, indeed!
Gave me an opp to post Jarenion's intel via his earlier spell, though...
Lookit me fluff-posting again! *happy dance*
P.S. It's easy to be paranoid when everybody's trying to kill you.

a bit permature
If you start getting freaked out now, you might have some trouble later on in this adventure.
This is just the start.
