Nice thing about the ship is that you are now fully caught up on maintenance and won't have to look at paying for more for about 6 months.

If you wish to buy stuff before you leave, that is fine but remember you are on a core planet so you can not get anything illegal and you are being watched everywhere. If you'd like to upgrade the ship or anything on it (Med bay, Galley, Sonic shower etc) then I will assume you arranged it before the adventure begins.
