Purely in the interest of keeping the game going. . .
From the movies, how many Hobbits were invited to the Council of Elrond in Rivendell?

umm
I believe there was only 1 invited, the other 3 simply came out of hiding spots during the council.
*if I am correct*
What is the name of Arwen's Horse

A slight trick question, I see...
Well...Pippin and Merry were far from invited. I think Frodo and Sam both were, and I imagine so was Bilbo...
So my answer is three.
Assuming I'm correct, as a follow-up question...
From the films, what family (or section of family) was Bilbo Baggins so desperate to keep out of his house?

Whoops!
Looks like ya got ninja'd Celtia, so the question "what's the name of Arwen's horse?" still stands. (and darn if it ain't a good one! I think I know where to look in "Fellowship" for the answer, but I'm kinda busy at the moment.)

You can't keep me down!
Aw, well at least I think I know *this* question.
It's Asfalath, from memory, isn't it? Either that or Asfaloth. Surely one of them is correct, so I hope I don't get a forfeit for not remembering, or knowing, the spelling. ^^'
Okay, I replay my previous question: Which family (or section of family) was Bilbo Baggins so keen on keeping from entering his house?

Yup yup...
...in the films, Arwen rode Asfaloth (however, in the books, Asfaloth was Glorfindel's horse ).
To answer Celtia's question... I think it was the Boffins was it not?
I'll hold off on a question for now... not sure of that answer...

Yay!
I'm getting my answer from the books in hopes that such a detail would be true for both. Bilbo wished to avoid the Sackville-Bagginses, more specifically Lobelia and Otho. (for they so coveted the property of Bag End and were quite miffed that it was bequeathed to Frodo instead.)
Your second spelling was right, Celtia, and thanks for saying your question was from the films, as in the books Glorfindel rode Asfaloth, not Arwen. (now my turn to be ninja'd! )
From the books, who is Balin's father?

Now that one I know...
...Balin's father was Fundin.
Keeping with the dwarven genealogy track; which of the dwarves in The Hobbit was Gimli's father?

Dwarves, eh?...That or Dwarfs.
Gimli's father? As in Gimli son of Gloin?
Gloin was Gimli's father, and also (though is irrelevant in this forum) a character of note in "The Hobbit".
Complete this sentence: In the Mines of Moria lay a Balrog of _______.

Balrog of Morgoth
(spelling?)
From the Movies
Assuming i'm right: When Legolas singlehandedly brings down a mumakil, what does Gimli say to him?
(i know this is simple, but its one of my favorite parts)

LOL!!
I'll have to paraphrase, but:
*annoyed grunt!* "That still counts as one!"
From the Movies
What is the phrase inscribed at the entrance to the cave holding the Army of the Dead?
(edit: sorry it's not a phrase, more like a few sentences.)

More to come...
Balrog of Morgoth was right, by the way. Morgoth, who took a huge role in the existence of the whole plot of the trilogy...
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it "That still only counts as one!", rather than "That only counts as one!"?
Heh, don't mind me. I'm the Chairman of the Pedantic Society of Pedants...
Well, Vice-Chairman, actually.
Anyway, the phrase, I believe, was "The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead, and the dead keep it. The way is shut." There was an extra sentence in the books that was cut in the movie, but I can't remember it.
Erm, *Cough*. Anyway: In the movies, Frodo was most commonly seen putting the One Ring on which hand?
Alternatively, simply name which hand it was during a particular scene.

difficult...
In the scene in the bar where they meet Aragorn (Stryder) it lands on his right hand.
When they are in the brush he is trying to put it on his left hand.
If correct: When Frodo is finally saved in Rivendale, he sees bilbo and starts looking through the book he had written. What is the name of the book Bilbo wrote?
