excellent
I grabbed them all. I might be able to use some for a serenity based game too.

Character creation.
So I know we are looking for another player yet, but what were you thinking for character creation?

well
Character creation in Traveller seems to be one of the most interesting processes in RPGs I have seen. You can almost die before you start to play?
I am new to Traveler so I am open to suggestion. Otherwise I would assume people would have to create their characters and pass them by me.
I am thinking we need a pilot, a mechanic, a scientist and gunner. But there will have to be some cross-training of course.

character death.
Depending on what rule set you use... yes you can die in character creation. However in the one rule set instead of dying you are severely injured in the second year of the term and do not get skills or any other benefit from that term, and you are kicked out of the service you are in. (That is the one I normally use)
And by the book all skills are random... The player gets to pick which chart to roll the skill on, but it is based on the roll as to what you get...
But were you thinking high(5+), mid(3-4), low(1-2) level (How many terms served before play)
Only the main rule book? or can we use the expanded books.
(When using the expanded books you generally get more skills which is better all round from my experience)
I would like to play a marine (preferably using mercenary book)

I don't have the knowledge of the system yet to offer any input, but the idea of being a mechanic made me giddy for some reason.
I really don't know why.
Seriously, got giddy though. Weird.

Please disregard this post....
I only have the Classic Traveller intro book, and I can't seem to download the one you posted. Apparently I had a 4shared account at one time and have forgot the password and haven't received the email to reset...
Edit: I have it now

Word
Padre says play, so I play. I have no idea who I want to play, so I'll take whatever role you guys need.
What's the tech level?

Whoa!
So are we only using Book 0 for making characters? because it only has army or navy for career choices...
And are we just rolling up a random place that is our birth world/homeworld?

I know we're all excited to play...but maybe we should let Alacrity become more familiar with the books/his story/etc before we start pressuring him into making decisions

getting there
I had a discussion via twitter with a guy that has been a traveller player since the beginning so I am more in tune now and at least have a direction.
So, what I am thinking is 4-6 players, you have a ship, you may have a patron, and there will be a basic underlying theme to your missions but you are independent operators. I will most likely use the Spinward Marches as a setting.
So give me a week to read up on things and we shall move from there. If anyone wanting to play can create a character, go ahead, it may help me tailor the campaign.
Level? I was thinking MID(3-4)terms served before we start with everyone mustering out of last career.
Tech - I am thinking around 14. I am open to thoughts on this from experienced players.

Ship
I'll whip up a character today and PM you what I come up with.
Just a question about the ship though.... Are we getting one of the premade ones from the book, making our own, or are you giving it to us?
And are we going to be owning it outright, still paying the mortgage on it, or is it going to be our partons?
