Yet another newbie question

So I just realized that I'm not sure how to go about making a roll in play by post. May seem like a dumb question, but how do you guys handle this in the thread? I'm loving the focus and roleplay and don't want to ruin the immersion.

I ask because my character took the feat Breadth of Experience and will want to examine the flux with anything that is pertinent (knowledge nature, arcana, history, local, heck even planes in case this crystal comes from another plane, profession herbalist, brewer for the tea aspects, etc.).

On a side note specifically for the GM, Asoel came to the town for the peace talks I've mentioned in character. When is his first meeting scheduled, as that will influence my next post. I see Asoel as the guy to definately arrive early, but I'll let you decide if "early" is an hour or a couple days.

Sorry for the uber newbie posts, I'll pick it up eventually. I'm already enjoying this so much

Speaking for the whole Inn . . .

Do not be sorry about asking questions.  How else will you find out?  There is no reason you would know and, honestly, every GM does it differently.  I've been at the Inn for awhile and don't know how that will be handled in this game.  Also, speaking as another character whose life may depend on your character getting things right - please ask!  I don't wanna die!

All good questions, and I'm sorry for not addressing this sooner, I knew in advance after all that you are new to pbp.
I handle dice rolls on my end, adding whatever modifiers from your sheet in order to determine success or failure to varied degrees and will then post results when I update.

Logging talks are scheduled for a week from your arrival date, you were sent ahead to gather information for the diplomats and offer insight that you are better able to provide due to your past among humans.  This "distraction" with the drug problem gives you opportunity to wander and gather information as needed and provide a positive service to the community as a whole which Asoel likely thinks will help the Elven cause in the upcoming summit.

Thanks!

That answers my question. I also like the change that Asoel is an advance representative for the real diplomats. Makes more sense for his background and training, and it really would push him to seek out this opportunity which is more his style. Awesome, thanks.

Good cop/bad cop

Adolfo looks rather forlorn in his cell and may respond better to kindness then anything else.  However, despite the fact that Kheric has taken a lead so far in asking questions, I think someone else should play the initial role of good cop.  Kheric has a very high charisma and a lot of skill in diplomacy, so maybe he should be the good cop.  But he is also a dhampir with notable fangs and a healthy does of arrogance.  While his skill is not intimidate, I think intimidate and diplomacy compliment each other pretty well.  (Only the DM can tell) He isn't naturally a 'bad cop,' but diplomacy is not always a soft sport.  (As our elf will apparently soon find out.)  He might be the best bad cop in the group.  Then again we have something called a 'ratman' in the group, so I may be wrong.  thoughts?

Iaka will play bad cop. I have points in intimidate and that's totally in his nature.

Sorry about my absence folks. Work's a terror when half of your coworkers  'come down with the flu' on the same day.

Funny how they were all better the next day, innit?

Aaaaaaanyway. I'd be happy to be the 'babyface' of the group in this instance. It's surely in character at any rate.

Working on post now.

Waiting

Kheric has no problem with others taking the lead - just as a note - he has an 18 charisma and 8 skills in diplomacy.  Of course, he is also rather arrogant and has pale skin and fangs.  Just to let you know for future negotiations as I suspect this will not be our last interogation.

Results of my investiagaion:

Definitely a poison. Yanyeeku unable to identify.

Definitely magical. Multiple auras of moderate strength. Aura's identified as: Enchantment, Illusion, Conjuration, Transmutation, Necromancy

Does not mend with itself as an inanimate object should

Does not activate under a Use Magical Device check

So yeah. Here ya go.

PS: Adamo registers has having been poisoned, but no magic lingers.

No offense, SW, but I kinda feel like I'm being rushed with your four DM posts in six days.

Just so we're all on the same page, I will try to post updates on Mondays moving forward, no particular time, just a day of the week.  If I find myself unable to post an update on any given Monday then I will post here in the QA to let everyone know.  I realize that Monday is only 4 days away, so if for some reason you don't get a post in before my update please feel free to do a backpost and I will edit my update as needed to account for backposts.

Knowing that it registers as a poison AND as magic, you can safely assume the crystals are likely formed from an alchemical procress taking poison(s), various potions, elixirs, oils, and other alchemical ingredients and combining them into an arcane soup of potent and chaotic effect. You can safely assume as well that the crystalline structure is probably obtained in much the same way a confectioner would make rock candy, allowing granular particles to cluster around an implement as they settle in this chaotic brew. You cannot however figure out if this is the work of some insane alchemist, a witch (literally) stirring up trouble over a cauldron, or something else entirely...

Aaaaaaand that's what I"ve got. So at least we have a starting point for questions.

With all this new info, maybe those with applicable skills will get fresh checks? Shield? Maybe?

Just a thought. Let's discuss! Anyone got ideas for an actual first step?

The next move

I think we need everyone to at least talk to the guy.  He seems unresponsive, but it is probably at worth it to have each of us try.

As for the next step, I guess I would start with two things:

1.  Go to the tavern and get rooms.

2.  Start checking out some of the seedier taverns in town.  For example, the one this guy got his candy at.

I agree

I do agree. I want to try to get what we can out of him. My main issue is that Asoel is fairly good at a broad spectrum of general knowledge, but he was limited on skill points, so I don't feel comfortable leading any sort of conversation. Besides, he's trained as a scout. Its much more in character to stand back, watch, guage, observe, and pass on observations. Hence my post about all the different checks he'll make.

Haven't seen anything come of those checks yet though. For the moment, I'm just withholding from posting to see what develops, as that is what Asoel is doing in character.

So is everyone in the same room as the prisoner? Seems we've stalled a bit, let's formulate a plan. Perhaps we can get him to talk if we break him out or promise him more candy?
