transformers, now that better not let me down.

I still am hoping for a Battletech Movie but we will see and hopefully the new Die Hard movie will be good also. So many movies to see (~sigh Jessica Alba Sigh~)

The DragonLance movie looks good so far, lots of input from Weiss and Hickman from what I hear. I hope they do it right, there's so much potential for a truly great movie there...

I'm dissapointed to hear that about Bug. I was hoping for the same. ah well...

Almerin and I went to see Deathproof a few nights ago. It's one of the Grindhouse films. The one by Quentin Tarantino. We really enjoyed it!!
Here in Europe, they have split up the movies (STUPID!). So Deathproof came out first, and in about a month (i guess) Planet Terror plays. And yes, we do have to pay the price of two tickets, instead of one, like in America. Bummer.

Anyway, back to the point: Deathproof was coooool! The ending really made it awesome! There are a couple of scenes where the girls talk way too long about who made out with who, but other than that, it was a pretty cool film. I definately recommend seeing it.

The Planet Terror movie doesn't get many good reviews, so you Americans (and maybe Canadians?) are stuck watching that one also...but hey, It's probably bareable (sp?)
I still want to go see it, even though I have heard a lot of bad things about it. Like how Grugg went to Bug after Olan said it sucked

I have been to see every one of the big "blockbuster" movies so far this summer. Pirates 3. Spidey 3. Shrek 3. Personally, I was pleased, to varying degreees, with all three of them. Very acceptable summer fare.

And so, the time for Transformers has come. I will admit to you that my expectations were extremely high for this movie - this was my favorite animated series (as well as my favorite type of toys) as a kid... so take my words with agrain of salt. I took the kids to see it yesterday (July 4th).

I was not pleased with Transformers.

Instead, I was overjoyed! They did not ruin the series, as I had feared. They stuck very true to the source material (as true as one could possibly expect for a live action flick, at any rate) and simply made a great film out of it. Two hours and twenty five minutes of movie flew by - there were no draggy moments at all.

Yes, you had a line or two of comic book-ish dialogue (i.e. cheesy), but that is to be expected. After all, this IS a movie about giant transforming sentient robots from outer space. Yes, there was a scene that took a slightly heavy-handed approach to our protagonist and his love interest. Still, in my opinion, these were the only things that could be remotely called blemishes in an otherwise superbly executed film.

There is some swearing in the movie; you might want to take that into consideration if you are sensitive about such things with your kids. However, they do keep it very lmited; I'd imagine that if such events took place in real life, there would be considerably more of it.

Edit: I forgot, there's also some sexual innuendo, and an extremely funny "awkward parent/teenager" moment with a strong sexual overtone. Be advised.

The action is nonstop, the effects are incredible. The gigantic robots look like they really are there; kudos to the FX team!

Naturally, they left a very plausible opening for a possible (definite) sequel. While I doubt a sequel can live up to this one (shiny newness of a big screen franchise), I'll happily pony up to see it/them if they do decide to go that route. Heck, for the first time in a long time, I'm seriously considering to pay to see a movie again in the theatre... and that's with the knowledge that Harry Potter is about to come out!

Transformers was amazing!!! I haven't been this excited about a movie since...ummm...???!!
I was so expressionate and emotional during this movie, it's really empowering, haha.
Anyway, Transformers is now -my thang-. Next fantasy fair i go to better expect to see me dressed as one! And i never dress up!


Go See Transformers!

I want to see Transformers. I never watched much of the animated series (I mean the original animated series, have not the interest for the newer series) since I couldn't watch that channel and they only showed the first season. I got few episodes on tape, which I used to watch over and over and over again back when I was around 5-8 years old or about. Then I lost the tape. I had action figures which are losed in a box today or something. I really want to see the movie, and so does my brother.

Unfortunatly, the movie doesn't run in theaters here in Iceland until 10th of august, at which time I'll be in London with my friends and after that I'll be living in another town. If my brother is as excited about the movie as I am, I doubt he'll want to wait until I get back from London. I don't think any of my friends want to join me in watching this film so I'm not sure if I'll go see it alone. But the worst thing is that it won't be shown until 10th of august. It's so far away

We just saw Harry Potter 5 in the Amsterdam Imax theater. I never went to such a cinema before, and the experience was cool (aside from the part where the screen went black, but we got coupons for a free movie for that, so I'm not complaining).

Although the movie was entertaining, it did not fulfill my expectations. I don't want to spoil the fun for those who are still going to see it, but I think the director and script-writers had a hard time translating the book to a convincing film. Most elements in the story are 'brushed', but in a way that's too superficial. It's like it doesn't take any real direction, but faintly shows the highlights of the book.

They let out some parts that I think should've been in there, and they emphasised some things that could've been left out. If I compare it to HP 3 and 4, this one comes nowhere near the quality and vibrance of its predecessors (did I spell that right?).
A very big bonus are the action scenes though. Even if you're not in an IMAX theater they will blow you away, especially the end battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore (yes, there's one of those ).

Perhaps it's better to go see this movie with less high expectations. My rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I felt that same way but I just couldnt put it into words you did. I felt the movie tried to rush you along through it. It also seemed to me like they tried to do to much is the best way I can think to put it. Now dont get me wrong I went to see it 2 more times to see if maybe I just missed something I didnt realize but all 3 times saw it felt same way. I like Harry Potter movies but I feel not the best one in the series by far. I will prob buy when it come out on DVD. Im not trying to discourge anyone from seeing it we all should be able to form our own opinions about it I just felt wasnt up to the Harry Potter we have gotten in past. I give it a 3 out of 5.

I suppose it's a difference in opinion, but I found it to be better than any of the others, save perhaps the Goblet of Fire. The special effects were amazing and since I hadn't read the books previously I didn't have any prior expectations I guess.. oh well..

I give it 2.5 stars. 3 is fair, though, but aside from everything Almerin has said, I also had a problem with Harry's acting. It seems to get worse with each film. Maybe he's a little too 'himself' lately. I watched an interview with him on TV the other day, he's really rather nerdy and doesn't know how to react to comments or situations very well. Just my opinion, though.

...with what is becoming a near-consensus, here. I very much enjoyed the newest Harry Potter - it may well be my favorite of the series thus far.

However, let me qualify that by stating that I have not read any of the books. There is simply no way to put that much content into a movie; I enjoy the movies, so I have decided that if I am going to read the books, it won't be until after all the movies have come out. That way, I won't go in with expectations too high, and will be able to enjoy them.
