My first swing at DND was prolly 5 years ago, I was in 7th grade. my aunt bought me a beginners box set, thinking I wouldn't ever stick with it. Well, me and my friends played those premade for a little while, and then we bought the PHB, DMG, Monster manual 1&2, and the arms and equipment guide, all 3.5. I made a gnome fighter who's name I can't remember. He was the leader of a criminal syndicate, and my friend had a gnome rogue. So I handled the big stuff, and he found out information for me. I remember we made a world, it had different planes. I remember being killed in Ifre, our fire plane which we did name after Ifrit, by a red dragon. I was still 1st level, and the DM basically told me the Dragon may as well have blinked and I would've died, but in reality he just flicked me with a claw.


Fun times, and I find bits of pieces of those world notes every now and then. We butchered the rules horribly, I konw now, but we still had fun with it.


I've gotten back up with those friends, and they are starting a table top game now, which I plan to play.

Well my first fantasy roll playing character was on a free form chat room. Her name was Versailles, she had multiple personalities... her eye color would change with them, one personality for each color. She was nuts and fun.

My first offical D&D char I loosely based off a char I played in that same chat room. Dawn Cayrimsa (for any of you who were in the evil campaign here like a year ago the name might ring a bell). She was a succubus... and boy did I have alot of fun with her

As a constant DM, I guess I'll simply have to live vicariously through my friend and tell you about his first D&D character: Natas "The Meat Machine."

Natas was a dwarf barbarian wielding a greataxe. His personality may not have been the most inspiring, but what made him come alive was his character portrait: In the foreground, Natas brandished his greataxe with a psychotic smile on his face. Even though anabolic steroids probably aren't around in the D&D world, there was a syringe sticking out of his left arm. In the background, a dead man hung from a gallows, representing the results of the dwarf's barbarian rages.

Natas's portrait was the graphic equivalent of Wikipedia: it was constantly being contributed to—not only from the player himself but from everyone else around the table. Eventually, Natas became the most memorable character in our gaming group's history, even surpassing an earlier one for a different game, whose name in reverse was far more obscene than the dwarf's.

My first character ever was a level 2 (I had never played before, so I watched for 1 level) black half-dragon ranger.

I was found beaten and barely alive hanging from chains on a wall in the dungeon the party was crawling. Unfortunately, the game ended when we leveled.

Back in 1982 I had a character I called Lord Garth even though he was not 11th level which was the technical prerequisite to be called "Lord" anything. Anyone remember those halcyon days? Later on I ran a whole party by myself with a neighbor kid as DM (gotta game somehow, eh?). The cool factor for that group was they all took nonweapon proficiencies in musical instruments, and between adventures they played for coin in taverns. I think they all died horribly in Tomb of Horrors. (Darn, giving hints to my age category again. tsk) Later in 2nd ed I had an elf wizard Olric Darksky who was on a quest to hunt down his drow half-brother. He was funny--married a Kender healer, died in Raistlin's tower (branded with a crescent moon on his face as a result) changed sex at least once, and became a dragonrider. My DM gave me a dragon that let's face it was Falcor from Neverending Story. Enh. Oh, and Olric wore this Yellow Dragonhide armor that could produce a Flame Strike 3/Day. To start with, I was not born yet either in 1982, but that is not really the point is it?

My first RP characters were all in free form role plays played on message boards or over AIM, very few of which I really remember beyond my old standby Drax Orin. Drax was a half-demon (not pit fiend/balor type, but more Charmed type) Elf. In my world's mythos elves and demons were polar opposites, elves filling the role angels fill in most world but being earth-bound and very close to nature. He was an immensely powerful (and sadistic at time) individual, and was retired because he was practically a god anyway.

As for D&D characters, it was 3rd edition, and he was a ranger (melee and minor magic use, the combo appealed to me), 6th level as I recall, I forget what race but I think Half-Elf. He only lasted 2-3 sessions because at that time I was playing with a DM who constantly wanted to start new games just to roll up new characters to play.

Yeah 1982, only off by 12 years! which would only put you at atleast 27! which isnt that bad if you ask me! then again Im not that old yet bet ehh...

Anyway my first was TORDEK! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA! as for First character I made, I actually still have him laying round somewhere, was Tordex! See a resemblence??? I do believe I had set the background information to a mysterious past living in the jungles of the backwoods of the world we created, and yes he was the...I think Nephew of Tordek...shoulda seen that one coming!

Oh all you kids. I started my first character around 1984. I had started a new job in Heath Ohio and one of the young engineers played and invited me to join his group. I start a character sheet but never finished. My wife thought I was too old to be doing that(I was all of 33), lol. Anyway he was First Edtion and I wanted a Bard, but you had to play through levels of Theif before you could start the Bard.

I didn't start again until 2001 when one of my assistant Scoutmasters got me interested in the game he DM'd for his son. On a trip to the Buffalo Naval Museum he and I sat up fire watch abourd ship all night and built my Gnome Cleric/Theif that I've played ever since. He is Rocca De Boliva. He was also the cook for the party and became the Aide de Camp to the main party character. We only played about twice a year at our Father/Son weekend and our annual planning weekend. He's 7th levl now and on hiatis while our main player is the Marines.

I started with no books, no anything. Back when this crazy thing called a personal computer got started I jumped on to the super highway (at that time) at 300 baud. Oh yeah! And from there found a bulletin board system (much like RDINN) that had PBP style Role-Playing Games. So I joined one.

We played like that for a while before deciding to meet, then we started playing the cool AD&D 2nd Edition rules. So I am guessing it was 88-89 that I started playing, and 89 when I played my first tabletop AD&D campaign.

I was an Elf Fighter, with a battle axe and shield in hand I was ready to go! Oooops, his name was Kendril.

Well I was around in '82 but I wasn't old enough to play until the early '90's

The funny thing is that I DM'd through those first years.. then DM'd in college.. and to this day I still haven't played a player character.. so until I get accepted into a game here at the Inn I guess still don't have a first character!!

Two decades of D&D and no first... maybe that is a first? lol

Ok lets see *puts brain in to deep ultra long term storage retrieval mode* was back around 1978/79 time! It was a basic D&D game (yes the red books which i still have) and used the module B1 or 2 Keep to the border lands, I played a female elf cleric by the name of Etheenual, I played her for about 3 years before she was killed....... What made her think that she could fight her way through 8 beholders on her own I'll never know!!!!

i think it was a human fighter back in like 92 or so. it might have been ad&d or ad&d second edition. My cousin came over with the boxed set and thats how things started. we played for awhile and get bored with it because we couldn't get any new material for the game.
i came back with 3rd edition as soon as it was released and have been playing since.
my first 3rd edition character was a dwarven fighter because the DM said the party had to have one and i was the last player.
my first character 3rd edition i got to make myself under a different DM was a kick ass gold half dragon/human monk whose wings were usable. fun times.
